He's just introducing and speaking about the Latin language and some new modern Latin words adopted for modern use like TABERNA NOCTVRNA and computo, omnibus, strata (or via), ET CETERA!
You've missed to mentioning that Latin derives from Ancient Greek, from the Aiolian Dialect! the alphabet is from the Chalkidiki Dialect. The examples given also go back to Ancient Greek. e.g. computer=> Latin: com+puto => Ancient Greek: συν+ποσόω= συν (syn) means together and ποσόω (posoo)means quantity. 'συν' (or 'cυν' in the Chalkidiki alphabet)is the equivalent of the Latin 'cum' meaning 'with'.So behind Latin is always ancient Greek!!!
True. They are similar in form because they both derive from a common ancestor. And right now, the best hypothetical ancestor is the (Proto-)Indo-European Language; the possible mother of the Germanic languages, as well as Latin, Greek, and Sanskrit!
The logic of fdopalare is flawed. "Com" is from old Latin, it indeed meant together. However, the ancient Greek syn comes from Mycenaean Greek ksyn, which in turn probably came from proto-indoeuropean kom. So, in some ways, the Latin language was more conservative in pronunciation than Greek. Greek has satem feature, but it is a centum language. However, sucha dichonomy of easter and western IE languages is not very accurate: the Anatolian and Hittite were centum languages, even though in the east.
What on earth are you talking about!? If there ever was such a language called Indoeuropean, there would be some record of the people and literature of it which in turn would show us where it was spoken! The comparison of languages MUST be based on the same chronological time and I AM SURE that no language can compare to GREEK since it has been spoken for more than 3 thousands years, with clear records on ancient writings of the Mycenaean Period. If you KNEW modern Greek, you would agree!!!!
Latin is an Italic language, like Italian, french, portuguese, romanian and others. Greek isn't Italic. Latin and greek are two separated languages. Latin doesn't derive from greek. That's the point regarding the bullshit you wrote. We don't care the rest: this forum treats the latin language. Go to a forum on the greek one if you are so interested in this issue.
There is no point in discussing anything with you! The way you express yourself really tells a lot about your ACADEMIC BACKGROUND and I really doubt whether you know any Latin, so whether you like it or not LATIN derives from ANCIENT GREEK!
Piece of ass, I know you take your fake information from greek nationalistic sites that I know very well. There is not reliable study that supports your ideas. So don't come here to talk about scholastic background. LATIN IS AN ITALIC LANGUAGE, ITALIC LANGUAGES ARE SPOKEN ALL OVER THE WORLD. Greek is not italic, and only the greeks speak greek. LATIN DOESN'T DERIVE FROM GREEK.
The Balkans are now the place of the greatest bullshits I ever. Go to fuck yourself with your tales on a greek forum instead of breaking our balls. Fucking enviouses.
And don't forget this: the greeks didn't give anything to the romans, but the romans TOOK what they wanted from the greeks. That's very different. Since the Romans Ruled the world.
There is not need for bad language 7Saturno You are green with envy because when the civilised Greeks were studying... to name a few: arithmetics, astrology, medicine, geography, etc your forefathers were on trees... whether you like it or not, Greece is the cradle of civilisation! and your academic background must be from a cesspit!!! and I will never come down to your level! Bye and study harder!;D
You are green of envy because your tribute to the human civilization is just indirect: they were the Romans to civilize and build materially Europe and not the greeks. You are envious because the Romans marked the end of the hellenistic age. You are envious because Italy had been the core of the western civilization from the Romans to the late 17th century.
You are envious since you came in an Italian forum treating something Italic and you want to speak about ancient greece here and you want to make greek what is Italic (while I don't want to make Italian what is greek), instead of going on a forum treating greece. Mini, mini greece: Achaia, a little roman province among the others.
Italy is the cradle of the civilization, and not greece: the greeks were a closed society, while the romans got in touch with the whole western world (and much more than the western world). If it was not for the Romans, Europe should have been a jungle. Arithmetics, Geography, medicine, philosophy, ecc.. what you want, but they were the Romans to spread out them all over in europe and not the greeks.
To invent and to civilize are two different issues. The Italics civilized and also achieved many things the greeks didn't know: the roman architecture, technology and Law were much more advanced than the greek ones; while the Latin literature, although the latin poetry used the greek prosody, became more refined than the greek one: the virgilian hexameter is the real CLASSIC one and not the homeric one.
And for centuries the models of the western literature were latins: Cicero for the prose, Virgil for the epic, Horace for the lyric: all of them were from Italy. This is why the language of the western culture is the latin, this is why the greeks started to called themselves "Romans" and not greeks during the byzantine empire, this is why Italic languages are spoken all over the world and even 65% of the english vocabulary is from latin.
Regarding your dear ancient greeks, there were not more ancient greeks in ellada than in southern Italy (Magna Graecia). Archimedes, for example, was a siceliot (from Sicily). For example this guy on the video is a sicilian, and he's probably more ANCIENT greek than you are. Anyway, I don't see your sources from reliable scholars of linguistics thanks to whom you can show someone important supporting your idea.
He does not express a green face of envy when lashing out at you in such a manner, Fdopalare insted he expresses something akin to frustration about your arrogance, non-existent knowledge of Indo-European and other linguistics. New scientific revolutions are held back not due to lack of knowledge, but due to ILLUSIONS OF KNOWLEDGE. What larger language family do all the Hellenic languages belong to? LANGUAGE OF THE GODS, ATLANTIS? You might make qite a lot of us chuckle if you answered yes.
"to name a few: arithmetics, astrology, medicine, geography, etc your forefathers were on trees..." False scribebas. Arbor non nobis Romanis placetur plurissume quam agris colere. Nunc mercedibus. :)
I, however, know enough Latin to know that I would not be able to talk to an ancient or modern Greek person to it. Do you understand the following?: Ego autem affatim scio dicere linguam Latinam, si uelim dicere cum graecum antiquom, non comprehendebet antiquus graecus vir atque ego, quomodo comprehendere! Translate this Latin sentence with your Greek skills, OR AT LEAST bring out, besides the grammatical person "ego", the etymologies of the words in this Latin sentence, OR FAIL!
and by the way your nickname 'Saturno' (the god KRONOS)derives from Ancient Greek 'ΣΑΔΗΝ' which means 'saturate' because according to the Greek Mythology Saturn/Kronos ate his children to prevent them from dethroning him!!! By the way the ancient Greek Gods were taken by the Latin as well to create their own religion based on something borrowed. Again, I just wonder were they took it from... capisci?
Any releable Source? Since you state bullshits then you talk about scholastic background, show us only one releable source from an important scholar who states a such of bullshis such as "latin derives from greek". I wait. Last time a greek told me "Christopher Columbus was greek", than I made a research and I found it was a fucking PAINTER to try showing that. LOL.
