Wow, this is even better than the Letterman clip! I saw this on TV at the time & didn't quite get it, I was far more interested in Bauhaus & Killing Joke back then tbh - looks like the sedated audience might've been of the same inclinations? Fortunately it still looks / sounds brilliant, thanks for sharing...
they remind me of watching the MONKEES on TV whent I was kid. Practiced bohemianism. BUT these guys were incredibly interesting musically. Very original.
Enorme, tout simplement, qui pouvait imaginer à ce moment qu'ils atteindraient de tels sommets, pas moi en tout cas, et je regrette mon manque de clairvoyance.
Saw these guys on The Tube then saw them at the Marquee in London. Brilliant gigs. They lost me when they became became stadium rockers. Not sure they lost themselves too.
1:58 - I love it when Peter approaches Stipey like that and tries to make eye contact with him, it's like he's teasing him a little for standing so still or something. ;)
@madamoiselle0sahara he doesn't look like him, he has similar hair to ten era pearl jam, and same mannerisms, if you looked at a skinhead picture of stipe and one of vedder and put it side-by-side you would not say that
Great song. I'm from Atlanta. In the summer of '81 I was 14 yo & listening to REM & this song on WRAS 88.5 (Alternative/College format) 2 years before they released their first album. Long before anyone was playing them mainstream.
That same summer WRAS 88.5 was playing another song called Rock Lobster by another band no one had heard of...the B-52s. I was thinking "both these bands are great!" The mainstream stations should really play these guys!.
mustve been nice to be around to see them in their hey day, this is like 5 years before i was even born. and i like how everyones probably wondering why the singer doesn't have a mullet or spandex

@madamoiselle0sahara Yeah, especially when they get the shots from the side, when the film Peter, and Stipe is in the background, with the mic.
