I have to say the Hindus made India from (1000 BC - 1100 AD ) for a full 2,000 years. The Muryas, The Guptas. The muslims then made India their home and contributed to India from (1100 AD - present )

Okay its true that when the Muslims brought a new faith they forced it on the locals but Hinduism with the caste system also made alot of hindus choose Islam as it is an egalitarian (classless ) religion. Akbar rule was one of the most glories rule the mughal's also united india. India was first united by Ashoka and they just Northern Indian was united under the Gupta's. Akbar reign was glories and united india into one kingdom.

@workhardt2 I think you seriously need to go check yor history books, i agree with the caste issue - but this is something which muslims blow out of proportion to justify their converions, if the conversions were so peacefull then temples like the pitorgarh complex would not have been destroyed, and anyway where is there unity and equality in islam - sunni and shias have been killing each other since the time of muhammed and pakistani muslims today still follow caste.

@workhardt2 Akbar didnt rule all of India, only the northern part, secondly although i agree that he was the most tolerant of the mughals early on his reign he waged a bloody war campaign againts the rajputs in which thousands were killed, it is said that he made towers out of the skulls of his defeated enemies at chitorh fort.

@indrajeet ... Akbar is not to be blamed here. In these days fighting and killing such people inorder to gain territory was the norm. This is the way things worked, had the Rajputs won the balltle they would have treated the Mughals in a similar fashion.

Prior to the Mughal rule india was divided into smaller independent kingdoms Akbar brought the whole of India under one centeral rule, he did not force religion, dispelled the jizya for non-muslims. The greatest thing the Mughals brought was they brought the whole of India toghether and most of its rulers Akbar, Jahangir and Shah jahan did not force Islam unto the Hindus. During Akbar reign India also the richest Nation in the world as per National GDP.

@workhardt2 Another major error you have made, prior to the mughals northern india as largely ruled by the delhi sultanate under the lodhi dynasty although throught most of the delhi sultanate period the Rajputs maintained their sovereignty. Once again, akbar didnt rule all of india - you need to get that into your head. India was the wealthiest country in the world in the past, hence why muslims like ghori and mahmud wanted to loot it, the idea of united india is nothing new - "Akhand Bharat".
