  • if someone said this was the fifth dimension i wouldnt have been surprised

  • Sounds like the Mamas and the Papas, but they're not!

  • @546mh

I think they sound closer to Spanky & Our Gang than The Mamas And The Papas myself. But either way, great stuff!

  • One of the first songs I ever played on the radio with the volume control all the way to the right! LOUD!

  • now this is music!! love it!!!

  • Nice sound... discovered by Cass Elliot..

  • thank you thank you what memories it was my first song as an am jock!

  • The way all thier voices blended together,,try that with this junk today !! And the drummer hammering it out with authority,,and this song lives forever.

  • Billboards Top 40 lists this group as A "Pop group." Bonnie and Pat Lamdin(Vocals), Doug Lewis(guitar), Skip Harris(bass), and Tony Corey(drums). Flip side of the 45rpm record was the song, "AND I'LL BE THERE."

  • Such a great song....the lead singer's voice is amazing! Thanks so much for posting!

  • Totally far out! Talking about staying over or being FREE! I can smell the incense now!

  • GROOVY~!~!~

  • I absolutely love this song!! I was a kid when it was out and I never knew the name of the group who sang it!! Big hug to you for posting this...thank you!!!

  • Ever notice that the center of this record looks like the Wheel Of Mithra?

  • "This sounds like either Spanky and our Gang or The Mamas and The Papas."

Yeah, it sure does. I checked a couple on-line mp3 places, but couldn't find it. Sent them a note to try and round it up. 'til then, this is OK.

  • I had a hard time finding this song. Knowing the right artist helps tho. lol I thought it was Spanky & Our Gang that did it. Good beat, moves well and I can't get enough of good vocals these days. Harmonies just aren't used anymore. And to get them to work with a good beat and the instrumentation is even harder. But it always works when released.

  • OMG... Decca! And bigger OMG for a 45 WITH the adapter in it!

Brings me back to my basement and my green close and player record player!

  • Didn't know they were from Md! Thanks

  • very iconic harmonic sound of late 60's pop music like everybody says like Spanky and our gang, Mamas and Papas, The New Seekers, AND a little like the Fifth Dimension...

very catchy and pleasing to one's musical sensibilities....BUT NOW "music" has come a long way since....like crap down the toilet and the sewer pipe. It's okay I'll take my 60's and 70's gems over Justin Beiber and the autovoice generation

  • Sounds like the Mamas and the Papas, but it's not!

  • WHAT A CLASSIC! INCREDIBLE BEAUTY!

  • An all time beautiful favorite...

  • This was the kind of music that made the sixties unforgettable.

  • Takes you back to a better time

  • A favorite.*****

  • great song and extremely catchy tune. I remember when this song came out and unfortunately it faded. Fortunately Youtube is here to have all of us relive our youth. Thanks guys.

  • Very nice. Thanks.

  • Dayum....this Girl has a GREAT VOICE!

    That's a Quality Voice Man....listen to that!

  • cool the drumming in STREREO

  • fresh sounding

  • Wow, been a while but a fantastic blast from the past.

  • They sound so much like Spanky and Our Gang... Wow! what memories.

  • Another lost gem which is now found. Thanks for the post and another new favorite.

  • stereo?

  • @TEMPmichaelhansen must be from the stereo LP or from an audio tape --some stereo source--not the 45

  • @roselandalvin

    still a cool song

    wonder what the year is?

  • @TEMPmichaelhansen This song came out in the spring of 1969,One of the Coolest years ever.

  • @Majikart ... I was a Junior in High School in 69 and It was a "cool" year and the Music was Great

  • @roselandalvin drums in stereo....

  • Does anyone else always losing the little yellow insert that you had to put in the center of a 45rpm? You had to try to center the record on the turntable or you had this weird distortion on every revolution. You could buy a bag of like 10 of them, but I was too cheap and poor for the 10 cents each.

  • @amliterature Oh God yes, Took me awhile to learn how to center those records on the turntable just right because I lost all mine.

  • @amliterature And then, if you were lucky enought to actually have one of those little yellow inserts (stole it from my brother), you had to be careful when sliding it down the center spike...halfway down, you had to move the record to the right a bit if it was an automatic stereo and you were putting the record on manually... and if you used too much pressure, the yellow insert would dislodge from the record...ha ha ha...remembering good times...thanks...

  • @amliterature , from one poor boy to another....I actually would use my fingers over the spindle to hold the 45 in place while the disc revolved. Of course I have engraved permanent grooves in my fingernails :-)

  • I don't know, but i love the drum roll near the end.

  • One of the cheeriest sunny pop songs ever.

  • best music ever....

  • thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • songs like this and, of course, Spanky & the Gang, made being a radio DJ back

in the late 60s and early 70s a pure joy. it's a shame you don't hear some of these

forgotten gems on the air these days.

  • One of the last great songs of the 60's. Tommy James said it best: "The 60's was the party and the 70's felt like the hangover after the party."

  • @jmua04 I loved both the 60's, 70's and the 80's, I didn't get the hangover until the summer of 1984 XP

  • @jmua04 Then you might agree that's it far past time for another party!

  • Its been awhile since i heard this one.....always liked it.

  • great audio!! Thanks for posting!

  • This song MAY be a cover. It was also recorded by a British Band called Royalty.

That version is also from 1969. So It's hard to know who did it first. I'm thinking Royalty's version is the original, but it could be this one. If anyone knows, please reply.

  • @cmulwee001 From my understanding, this song was very popular in some parts of the USA and totally unknown in others; so the old timers say.

  • I went home on Monday, and never came back.

  • "Psychedelic group"? Hardly. Bubblegum definitely. Regardless, one of the best songs of its era.

  • I agree with dude 5161. That's probably why this was a huge hit, as Spanky And Our Gang were so popular. Soes sound Like them.

    JS

  • Great song but a rip-off of Spanky And Our Gang

  • @dude71761 great song in the past but not totally forgotten

  • Its a great song !!

  • @dude71761

good point. Different though, similar melody.

  • Just heard this on XM. Probably had not heard it in 20 yrs at least. Not available as MP3 but cd is on amazon and also part of a compilation cd too. Would love just an mp3 version though.

  • Great music scene in Crabtown. Very under appreciated nationally.

  • Milt Gabler (Billy Crystal's uncle) left Decca Record's A&R Division and some producers left as well, one of whom was Paul Leka who discovered this group from Baltimore. Sisters Bonnie and Pat Lamdin did vocals, Doug Lewis on guitar, Skip Harris on bass and Tony Corey on drums. Paul Leka, but the way, went on to organize and play with Steam ("Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"). P Rainbow song reached #32 in US in early 1969.. They followed with "Don't Wake Me Up in the Morning Michael".

  • Comment removed

  • Wow! I had totally forgotten about this song!

  • I have been looking for this sone for years! I kept thinking it was Spanky MacFarland that sang it!

  • What a refreshing blast to the past! Life was much simpler then! Great post, thanks!

  • It is a beautiful song. I have not heard this song for over 30 years.

  • I last heard it on the radio sometime in the late 1980s.

  • So great- the german version of that song is called - Die Party steigt am nächsten Samstag - sung by Edina Pop !!!

  • check these young ladies out .., live cover version better than the original ..well I think so anyway, they are fabulous !

    watch?v=pC9Go3WS3Eo

  • This sounds like either Spanky and our Gang or The Mamas and The Papas.

Peppermint Rainbow should have been bigger. This is real music, unlike most of the garbage out there today.

  • Hey cmulwee001! our parents though our music was garbage too! but...........

  • @cmulwee001 I wouldn't that far...

  • Wow what a forgotten song! Like seeing a friend you haven't seen in along time! Thanks for the memory!

  • @MrReminisce You better believe it is a forgotten song.

  • @MrReminisce Spring of 1969, Cool year wasn't it ?

  • @Majikart Cool decade!

  • @MrReminisce Never be another decade like it again.Too bad i was born at the end of it in 1968. I think i have only one vague or indirect(memory of a memory) of it in 1969, i think. The first year i definately remember was 1971

  • Anyone know of a version of this song by a group called the Fuzzie Bunnies? It was on the WIXY survey here in Cleveland around this date in 1968. I'd never heard of another version of this till I saw the survey recently.

  • What an "INCREDIBLE" "MASTERPIECE" Wow, is this a "LUSH" blend of Spanky and Our Gang and The Mamas and The Papas, or what???? I have just about worn out my computer listening to this "over" and "over" and "over"...I lived, loved, and ate, drinked and slept 60's and 70's music... amn does this song "rock' my world... nights of 67 Chevelle SS's, draggin the gut.... Muncie 8-track under the dash... were do I stop??? Rick Sands AKA Mr. Las Vegas

  • @RICKzzSANDS Lawdy! talkin'a bout the 67 Chevelle and the munsic 8-track players, had a better name than thay played! LOL. but it was "cool" to have one, Thansk for the memories, Cheers!

  • as Bette Midler was said: "it was the 70's GET OVER IT!!!

  • @RICKzzSANDS great times - yes, the chevelles and novas - We had clubs in the motor city that would meet once a week in a parking lot- I used to go down and watch em rumble in and rumble out.-- engines- paint jobs -- wheels - Good old days! Just to remember when solid lifters, cams, headers and big Holley 4 barrels ruled

  • @roselandalvin .... Thanks for the get back on my comments.. I had a 69 Nova.. 350 "4 BARRELL" muncie rock crusher 4spd... Those days "late 60"s and 70's are gone for ever... but the music lives on, and spend hours on You Tube listening to it ... for some reason you really hit home and I get real emotional just reminiscing about the good old days of "FAST" cars and great music... Used to go to Rebels Superstores and buy "BOOTLEG" 8-tracks... and of course every corner gas station sold them...

  • HELL YA !!! thanx a Bunch ! u were right ,from youtube home page... go 2 aol music, then type in peppermint rainbow & it's there. the intire video of will you be staying after sunday. u put a smile back on my face :)

  • I do remember The Time Tunnel. James (goodbye cruel world) Darin and Whit Bissell. Can't remember the rest!

  • yes u can see it on free tv shows on -aol site. i am not a member. but the page pops up. when i sign in. try it. and his name is robert colbert,

  • anyway folks -this is a classic -jr high tear jerker. i am peter class of 1975, waltham high school, waltham mass.

  • This song is so uplifting. Clean, crisp vocals too.

  • great song , i saw the video once , sure would like 2 have it on my play list. any one know how or where i can find it ?

  • No other genre's of music can top lighthearted bubblegum or sunshine pop.

Also love classic R&B, and Carolina Beach music. We desperately need a resurgence of this style of music. Today's stuff is lacking in quality.

  • The PEPPERMINT RAINBOW were an American sunshine pop group from Baltimore, MD.Formed in 1967 as THE NY TIMES, playing gigs in the Mid-Atlantic states. Changed name to Peppermint Rainbow in 1968. Bonnie Lamdin(vocals), Pat Lamdin(vocals), Doug Lewis(guitar), Anton Corey(percussion), Skip Harris(Bass). Song hit #32 on Billboards Top 100 April of 1969. Band split up in 1970.

  • my dad bought me this 45 cause i played drums and liked the drum riff. i cant believe what we have become.

  • Pretty inspiring song and that lead singer is rocking out!

  • great song , cactches the late 60's innocent carma and vibe. puts to shame the crap the music industry puts out today...!

  • AMEN!

  • Perfect responce 32Koufax ! You have a great music mind. we were all so young then, only special people can relate to the music that was such a part of our lives. Thanks for the kind comment. Bye. SuperWiddle.

  • do you have, by any chance, their song And I'll Be There? If so, would appreciate if you could post it, even audio only. thanks.

  • I saw them in concernt in 1969. great

  • What a great pop song from 1969. So simple yet very catchy...

  • I am so glad to find "my peeps".... here... t here are so many of us in our mid to late 40..... that remember our innocent childhoods with the greatest soundtrack ever..... I keep up with current music... but this stuff is the BEST!

  • There's an urban legend that Neil Armstrong had this song on tape and started it in the cockpit at the T-10 second mark during the Apollo 11 launch countdown. The song crescendod as the vehicle went through it's pitch and roll program as it cleared the launch complex

  • WOW, love this song and the memories. Got my drivers license in 1969, first summer of true freedom! I remember all the songs that i blasted on my '66 Bonneville 2+2 radio from WLS, WGDY and KOMA!

    JS

  • Sounds like another group from the late 60s that sang 'Don't wake me in the morning, Michael' or something like that.

  • 1969, i remember i wa sgoing in to 7th grade- how high did this chart.

  • I cried when I heard this. It renminded me of my brother Richard who was killed when I was 17 and it was our favorite song.

  • sorry to hear that. its music thats our lifes -blood-. it keeps us going.

  • I just rediscovered this after 40 years! Yeah, it's really "Spanky" sounding, alright, but I liked it a lot when it came out. It disappeared as soon as it charted. I cried my eyes out when I heard it again for the first time in 40 years, though, maybe because my daughter is now the age I was when I last heard it!

  • yes it sounds like spanky and our gang. alot like them.

  • You have that right. In fact, they were discovered by Mama Cass Elliot. Also, it is a misnomer to call the psychedelic. They are really more sunshine pop, which is a more adult form of bubblegum.

  • I cried too, binkle

  • I am 17 years old again!!!! and now it's 2009

  • i am 11 years old again!!!!!. but 170 lbs more. and rent payments. a bitchy wife. oh to be in 6th grade again. do you remember the time tunnel tv show. oh if i could find that tunnel.

  • i am just like you brudda...without the ex wife...6th grade it does remind me of...lol how bout the song' solo' by billy sans from 1971...so obscure i dont think you tube has it

  • I've seen this title about a 100 times but had no idea of what the song actually sounded like, it reminds me so much of Spanky and Our Gand and The Mamas and The Papas, in that vein. Thank you for posting it.

  • Incredible summer, first job, first girlfriend. I was fifteen years old.

  • Country music group Little Big Town should cover this song. Their harmonies sound similar. (Little Big Town is two guys and two girls.)

  • Hearing this for the FIRST TIME IN 40 YEARS! Talk about a mind trip! Going from 53 years old to 14 in the blink of an eye sure is mind-bending. I agree, they sure could pass for Spanky & Our Gang.

  • You took the words right! out of my mouth.

  • Oh, I double-posted again! STUPID! I take Topamax for migraine, and it totally erases your short-term memory. ARRGH!

  • Thanks so much for the great song. I don't think I've heard it since '69. P-mint Rainbow was pretty much a Spanky & Our Gang clone but they were just fine in their own right. You can never listen to too much sunshine pop!

  • Not to be nit picky, but this is not psychedelia. This is another genre called sunshine pop.

  • Songs like this, unfortunately, are banished to YouTube and internet radio stations because "oldies" programmers only have faith in 70s and 80s classic rock.

  • A 1969 song in summer what great time . what happen to songs like this

  • I love this song. The rhythm & harmony are great! i can't get enough of this kind of music!

  • Ahhhh, my first bell-bottoms that summer! Playing outside with my friends after that home-cooked supper was finished. Mom & Dad so young. Everything seemed happier! Thanks Mom for making my childhood so perfect and Dad... I miss you so much. Rest in peace.

  • God Bless You I had the same

  • Psychedelia?!? More like sunshine pop written by Joel Hirschhorn and Al Kasha (behind "The Morning After" among other syrupy pop songs).

  • I totally agree. It seems as if they were pretty much being groomed to be the successors to the Mamas and the Papas. Of course, they were pretty much discovered by Mama Cass Elliot herself.

  • I have to admit the music of today is pittful!Anytime after the Spice Girls came out around 1996.

  • sounds great with the earphones..give it a try:)

  • Love this song!

  • OMG, fabulous song !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great good time music. Reminds of times long ago when I was young.

  • I envy you. I'm 25 now and I would trade my whole life in for living just through the years of 64 to 74.

  • I wish that I would have realized how great it was at the time. In the mid-70's I knew it was but you can't turn back time. I'm glad the music is around and I wish the 19 cents a gallon gas was too. If you like FM radio you would have been out of lot somewhat. I only had AM in my old Ford. My step-day ran a car repair shop and he fixed me up a 1938 Ford coupe to drive around. I wish I had that car now. He sold it when I went to Nam. I bet someone is glad they have it.

  • They were great and sometimes scary years pestarzt. But we were full of something missing today, in the midst of all the turmoil we felt real joy. I wish you could have been there too.

  • They were great years - Mickey Mantle, The Beatles, Elvis, Rotary Telephones, The Moon Landing, Pretty Girls In Mini Skirts, Classic T.V. Shows, The 60's had the best bands and best music that was ever played. What Memories !!

  • I couldn't agree with you more.

  • Well said Gary...just hearing this song brings back great memories..I was 13 in 1969!

  • @garys45s: Time-Life operators are standing by!

  • It WAS great!!!!There were so many records to buy, you were constantly broke.

Can you imagine now grabbing the radio knob and turning up a song full blast that you heard on the radio...your mother saying "Turn that damn thing down" Oh those were the days.

  • They were great years, Pestarzt - but not perfect. Friends going off to war; racial strife, incurable childhood diseases that no longer exist today, and the whole RFK/ Martin Luther King tragedies just for starters... Hmm. Not really TOO different from today, were they? The beauty of music like this is that it transcends time, and can last forever. Surely, the innocense of this period is lost... which is a shame. I miss that part, for sure.

  • There are many songs from those years that bring back great memories. This is one of the best.

Have you heard More Today Than Yesterday by the Spiral Starecase?

One Less Bell To Answer by the 5th Dimension? I think you will like them both.

  • This was one of thos happy, good time songs of the 60's - rare to hear it on the radio

  • Yes, dear - technically, it means the same thing. It's a play on words...

For those not old enough to remember: here's a historical factoid that might tweak your appreciation for this song: Remember, this was written in the mid-late 60's, sunshine, happiness, war, drugs, counter-culture and all - it was still unheard of for 2 unmarried people to live together - this song, 'specially a girl asking a boy to "stay" longer than the weekend, in itself, was daring for 1969! Quite cutting-edge!

  • Right on!! Besides the gorgeous harmonies and wistful melody, maybe that's why the song has has always spoken to us so strongly. It shows a woman being aggressive in a GOOD way!!!

  • And the mystery line in the song is......

"and when I press you do your best to stall for time"

I love this song! Filled with tight harmonies, strong voices and oh that drum roll!

  • Anyone remember ads about writing a song with Al Kasha? He co-wrote this one(as well as "Morning After" from "Poseiden Adventure")

Here's something in light of Ms. Landin's post-'Rainbow story: I think Allanah Currie of the Thompson Twins, who was literally driven to tears by the life at one point, is now a ranking officer at a computer company.

  • Wrong, she's an upholsterer back in London. I thought I saw something about an Alannah Currie in a computer company somewhere.

  • anyone know where i can find the lyrics for this song

  • I can send you the correct lyrics for it, if you haven't gotten them already.

  • Hi there,

That would be great if you could! I'd love them!

    Darren.

  • What a strange feeling to hear this after so long. I remember me and my friends when we were kids on the porch of my house back in 1969. We were all about 11 to 13 yrs old and it was a great time to be a kid. I miss those simple days. If I had a time machine Id go back to 1969.

  • the lead singer sounds like that group, who sang the tune, "Sunday will never be the same". A good song. Thank you for posting.

  • Yes, Bonnie sounds very much like Elaine "Spanky" McFarland of Spanky And Our Gang. They both have wonderful voices.

  • Yes, both good voices too. thanks.

  • We have a radio program where we listen to this song once or twice a year in spring. For me it's a song breathing the wind of April. It's just great.

  • let this feeling grow or let it end.......

  • still a great song!

  • I have owned this 45 for 40 years - I can't believe I haven't worn it out! I still love listening to this song...

  • Greatest intro drum roll of ALL TIME! Thanks for the post, man!

  • the lead female vocals Bonnie Lamdin is now CEO of a healthcare organization in Baltimore also voted in the top 100 women of the year in Maryland for 2008

  • really! that's awesome!

  • this is one of the greatest pop songs EVER!

  • First single I ever bought-at the age of eight-my parents were a bit befuddled at the lyrics.

  • this sounds great with my headphones on..:)

  • Sounds great. Thanks for posting.

  • Although it does sound like Spanky and Our Gang, the harmonies are incredibly tight and with that lead singer and her strong voice! She can sure hold a note at the end of the bridge part of the song!

  • This song makes me cry-I had to let it end....

  • This song did nothing in the UK which is a shame.

It has that Fifth Dimension vibe - I dont suppose they did a version did they ?
