No one seems ceratin as to why "Goodnight Irene" was chosen; perhaps it just happened to be a popular song at that time. It has been recorded by a great number and range of artists since the original by Huddie William Ledbetter, but is at its most awesome whne sung by 40,000 Rovers fans at Cardiff or Wembley!

But Bristol turned the match into 3-1 and the fans responded with "Goodnight Argyle". From thereon it was Bristol's hymn. I've read this from a german source and hope it's right.
