  • this show changed history of music, on this gig Joy Division was born

  • dont forget mick hucknall was there caught on camera

  • audience also included mark e smith morrissey buzzcocks.

gig kicked off the manc punk scene

  • God they are so much better with Glen Matlock on bass. Sid was useless.

  • green day was great in the 90s. duuno what the fucks happened to them now tho

  • who is green day?

  • @NIKOLDGARDEN nobody

  • @NIKOLDGARDEN Never heard of 'em

  • Just reading thru the comments... Why do so many people slag Malcolm off?? Without him the Sex Pistols would've sank without trace, it was HIM who advised the fledgling band to move Steve Jones to guitar & look for a new singer, without Malcolm the band as we came to know it would not have existed AT ALL! You don't have to like his methods but he was essential!

  • @lazaru2000 Malcolm only did small things for the band, he had no control on them. He only stolen them money. He was desperate after the Grundy's show, he failed with several records companies, etc, etc. And in the end he tried to make us believe he invented punk and the Sex Pistols. He wanted a singer, yes, but he wanted someone like Iggy Pop, and he failed. Bernie Rodhes told him and the band about Johnny Rotten, and the rest is history.

  • @NMTB77 Yep punk was born in new york! Fuck you english thieving bastards

  • the video is a collage of stuff from all over the place, from I have no idea how many different years and continents. But a lot of work went into editing it to (sort of) fit and to add to the energy. Kinda nice if you didn't want to see them perform.

  • Johnny sold out! Hipocrite when he married an old hippy! ;)

  • @nicknameSGB sure punks are just angry hippies. Probably why he liked her.

  • @katoness Yep punk was just a reaction anyway, a reaction against the hippies - Johnny liked Hawkwind before he joined the Sex Pistols and if you listen to Hawkwind LP "Warrior on the Edge of TIme" released in 1975 some of it sounds a bit punky and that wasn't deliberate.

  • @nicknameSGB so why is he a hypocrite if he already liked hippies and their music? Hes more contradictory than anything.

  • oh fuck another anarchist war born! go jonny go! i love you xxx

  • this is NOT from the lesser free trade hall...the sound may be but the video isen't

  • @cantonadenmark the video IS manchester 1976, audio is Burton on trent76

  • This is probably the earliest recorded footage of the Sex Pistols - how great is that?

    Thanks for uploading

  • you might see tony wilson in the crowd ...

  • Pity the audio is from a different gig (Burton on Trent) when audio from this gig is readily available...

  • @lazaru2000

I was born at the end of the year this was recorded. I am now steaming rapidly into middle age. Burton on Trent is about 50 miles SE of Manchester. This is a free Youtube video, not a documentary.

In terms of time, space and money, does any of it f***ing matter!?

  • @anonUK In the great scheme of things it matters not one jot, I had completely forgotten I'd even seen the video let alone commented on it. However, as unimportant as it is, my comment is the truth & yes, I feel a right old smarty pants for knowing. Thanks for the geography lesson but I was a courier for 12 years & I knew that already.

  • yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

  • punk is held together by our safety pins.

  • glen matlock was a wicked bassist i still dont understand all that "it didnt matter if sid could play coz he looked cool" thats just stupid even more so gettin rid of the bloke who was a massive part of the writin process. sid just looked like a twat for the time he was in the pistols

  • @stormchasers25 i totally agree with you.Matlock left because unluckily Pistols were already into a malcomizing process = arise at the stardome level as fast as possible despite the music. As lately it was told by Lydon himself, they were just too young to be aware about things around them.

  • @yepheth yer too young and malcolm mclarren was a shit manager and a sneaky fucker.. i never get these kids who idolise sid. he was a talentless twat pullin stupid faces tryin 2 look mean!! from readin all the books and all - peoples different accounts ,he was a fake .it was all a front ,he only got brave after a ton of booze and speed or later on heroin, i think lydon played his part in the downfull .he was pretty cool whgen it all started but u only gotta listen to him now 2 know hes twat

  • @stormchasers25 Yeah, i can't stand Syd idolization too and his fans thinking "he was The Sex Pistols". On the contrary i think he was a fan himself on the stage living for the Pistols. Indeed he died just when the Pistols brooke up. I dunno if he wanted really to be the new Lydon, but the guy acted quite pathetic. Matlock - a band needs somebody calm on stage as Entwistle was too ;-) - was an ace bassman and music writer and as evidence of that we can listen how these song still rock today.

  • Awesome footage of the Pistols in their prime!

  • Oh my God... just imagine that Ian Curtis, Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner are there... thats amazing...

  • @e6e2e3e1 ...and Mick Hucknall too lol

  • @elefou don't forget about morrissey!

  • @e6e2e3e1 and tony wilson !!

  • Fantastic, historic footage. A truly legendary gig. Read David Nolan's excellent "I Swear I Was There"

  • green day who are they/

Sex Pistols bite their their heads off and spit in the hole!

  • what is the song?

  • @skatertumen song - I WANNE BE ME !

  • @skatertumen i wanna be me / seventeen

  • sex pistols is good, but GREEN DAY fuck them in every hole

    who againest me - fags

  • @skatertumen You must be joking! They're a bunch of fucking rip offs! These guys are the originals. Not a cheap imitation!

  • @skatertumen fuk u yank assole

  • Footage is Manchester as posted, soundtrack is Burton on Trent, probably the best live recording from the Matlock days.

  • in the audience was Joy Division/ new order, Buzzcocks and The Smiths. Thank you sex pistols.

  • one of my favourite

  • Burton On Trent, not Manchester

  • amazing, raw and before all the other shit destroyed the band. one of the most important bands ever

  • Too bad I wasn't alive then...I got lumbered with the shitty music you get today, Those clowns called rappers and ravers and whatnot need a stick of dynamite up their talentless arses! I mean, what's so talented about pushing a few buttons to produce sounds?

  • Punk is still going strong, and it's harder, stronger, and faster than ever. Just don't be a lazy cunt and look deeper! It's not on MTV and it's not on the front page of every tabloid like the pistols were - And that's the way it's supposed to be.

So don't go "I was born too late, punk's dead, wah, wah" like a little bitch. Get over it and either go to a show or stop fucking whining.

  • Try listening to more music mate - dance music's gone a lot more fucking rock and roll that the shit that bands are producing these days.

  • Oh this gig haunts me.

My best friend had gone down to live in London & he kept writting to me about all these bands down there & how much I'd like them & how they dressed just like me. I've always had weird taste !

I was made up when I found out that they were coming up north but it was two days before my birthday, I would have had money on my birthday but before I was broke, so I missed it.

Everytime I hear somebody say they were there I feel like punching them - even now !

  • Too bad I was 8 years old in 1976 and listening to my older sister's records. Stuff like "Silly Love Songs" and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." Thanks big sister for turning me into a total lame-o.

  • this is not from Manchester, it from Burton on Trent 76

  • Yep, I can confirm this too. This live recording has made it rounds on bootlegs through the 80s. Thank Dave Goodman!

  • there were only 30-40 people present but every one formed a band after this...from Buzzcocks to Joy Division to Simply Red.

  • If all the people who claim to have been at the first manchester gig were actually there they could have filled Wembley stadium

  • They played two shows. One on the fourth of june, and one on the twentieth. This is (from the newspaper clipping shown) is from the twentieth. Which means it ain't the gig spoken of in 24hpp.

  • Weren't there a shitload of people at this show who went on to form bands? I think even Morrissey was in the audience.

  • shitload of people? i think not , only a handful of which Pete Shelley and Moz were part of , i think \bernard manning was there too .....:>)

  • i think Ian Curtis was in the crowd :S

  • yes he was :))

  • is this from the anarchy tour :S

  • Sex Pistols, the best band ever.

  • if i could go back in time it be to see this gig and chat to the people in the audience. that be so cool!

  • for me the most important gig the sex pistols ever did, for in the audience were bernard sumner, peter hook, and the late ian curtis, the gig inspired them, into eventually becoming joy division, for me the last true rock band that carried raw power, punch, and influence, i like sex pistols, also.

  • True. its all in the film 24 hour party people

  • and morrissey!

  • pistols rules

  • awesome :) gotta love the beginning.

  • hmm provocative :)

  • yeaah... he makes me feel... so much xD... I love his body!!! and his face... his voice EVERYTHING!!! LONG LIVE TO SEX PISTOLSS!

  • green day suck ass

  • @Hellpartyboy2009 youre stupid dumb

    you suck green day's ass

  • @Hellpartyboy2009 I like Green Day but Sex Pistols are waaaay better. :D

  • @Hellpartyboy2009 green day is pretty good youu can't say the opposite. i prefered them during they were punk but they still kick ass

  • @Hellpartyboy2009 Wow you're really punk for that outrageous opinion

  • @Hellpartyboy2009 you can't say that. GD is great, it's just different because the band was created 15 years later and the History of the group is different. you can't say that without arguments

  • Sex Pistols kick ass OLD SCHOOL !
