Why do they need to stop at anchorage anyways with the A340-300, I mean, I did some reserach and found that the A340-300 has more than enough range to fly from toronto-hong kong non stop...

Brochure range of A340 is around 7000nm. For the HK-Tor mission, a brochure range of 7500nms is required cos of diversion fuel reserve requirements.

no, even yes, it wont stop there. after cathay used their 777 for long haul flight, they dont need a stop for refueling
