  • Life and Love and Luck may change! Hope renewed and Fate rearranged! I LOVE it! Too bad Lucius Beebe didn't live to see this. The Century was his favorite train until 1957. He forgave the New York Central the coaches added to the Pullmans in 1962.

  • OK, now that I have composed myself, some notes to the Roundabout - 1 - PLEASE, Full Steam ahead. 2 - DON'T FUCK THIS UP WITH SOME ANEMIC LITTLE ORCHESTRA. You must pull out all the stops - or you'll have me to deal with!

  • OH God, OH God, Oh God! I am going to have to MOVE to New York if they revive this show! I fucking love this! Wild, sweet, lost longings!

  • this was NOT the origional cast. Madeline Kahn had to sit and see not only this, but also the insensitive introduction about how Kay replaced her & became a star (which was curtecy of the producers' manuevering, by the way).

  • @steveb1164

This WAS the original cast, Judy Kaye was in the original cast as Agnes before taking over the role. I was there, for all Broadway and National Tour performances and it's great to see this footage. Joseph Lorenzo Wise

  • On The Twentieth Century of Tony Awards is from the year of 1978.

  • thanks for posting this-- i havent seen since i saw this same cast on broadway all those years ago including a very young kevin kline!!

  • Wow -- nice surprise to see this -- too bad Madeline Kahn was fired from the production. I love her on the soundtrack. I saw Judy Kaye do this but I would have loved to have seen Kahn. She's a riot on the soundtrack. Kaye lacks some of that comic timing.

  • @MJames2700 Kaye was a pale imitation, if you ask me.

  • @MJames2700

By the way Madeline was not fired. She and the producers agreed to replace her, she just couldn't do 8 shows a week of that score after being on movie sets for years. She was great tho! May she sing to the angels in heaven!!!

  • This, the Prologue from 'West Side Story','I feel like I'm not out of bed yet' from 'On The Town','We have an opening for a princess' from 'Once Upon A Mattress' and 'Comedy Tonight!' from 'A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum' as well as the opening from 'Guys and Dolls' and some of the best opening numbers in modern musicals. Can't wait to see if it actually comes 'Back to Broadway' next year!

  • Thanks for posting this !

  • what a score!

  • Marvelous! Pity today's Broadway stars are all frosting and no cake. Kristin Chenoweth is a dolly, but this cast has vocal chops sorely lacking on Broadway (or at the Met, for that matter.)

  • There are few things that give me goosebumps quite in the way Judy Kaye's bravura vocal passage starting at 3:08 does.

  • The most fun evening I ever had in a Broadway theater. I hope that the rumored production with Kristin Chenoweth becomes a reality so I can see it again on the Great White Way!

  • Madeline Kahn is a living legend and I will always treasure her work....but Judy Kaye was stunning in this. Years later in shows like "Phantom" (which finally got her a Tony) and especially "Ragtime" (which should have got her another nomination, and I saw her in that show) she still proved she has it. An underrated Broadway gem!

  • @piano15723 then why did it take almost 20 years for her to get the tony?

  • What energy and what a great score!!! Bravissimo!!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. It brings back so many wonderful memories of such a glorious show.

  • Stupendous!!!! I saw the show with Judy Kaye and I liked her as much as Madeline Kahn on the OCR - what a wonderful piece of theatre!

  • Love this show. John Cullum is unparalleled....

  • I had MANY good friends in this cast! A runaway HIT!!! ALL ABOARD!!

  • There is possibly a revival coming with Kristin Chenowith. She is not my cup of tea, but may be suitable in the role of Lily.

  • Look at all the postings for this musical on YouTube...so why isn't it back on Broadway? The opening is perfect, the songs are great and the story is a hoot. And I have written a play Mr Jaffe...

  • So THRILLED to see this! The FIRST B'way musical I ever saw. A group from my High School banded together and went to NYC. Saw this Thanksgiving Day '78. I wanted to see this show since Madeleine Kahn was in it - found out that she had been replaced and was sorely disappointed - UNTIL Judy Kaye dropped her gorgeous jaw and made it one of the most memborable experiences - EVER! SUBLIME. Judy Kaye, John Cullum, the tap-dancing porters - Thank You, Thank You for bringing it all back to me!

  • Wow! That was great! More!

  • WE NEED A GOOD REVIVAL 33YRS TOO LONG!

  • Thanks! Loved this show, saw it in NYC , April,1978,with Madeline Kahn ,John Cullum, Kevin Kline, Imogene Coca , again in my hometown Detroit ,summer of'79 where it played 6 weeks with Judy Kaye, Imogene Coca, & Rock Hudson. Great memories, an all-time-great. Broadway musical, unparalled sets. Deserves a revival like Chicago had. Would probably be a bigger hit today . A movie version would be nice too. After all, it's based on the 1934 Carole Lombard-John Barrymore film "Twentieth Century."

  • Thank you so much!!! I'm looking for at least one clip of that show for some time now, so THANKS!!!

    I just love Kevin Kline...
