That might stop the left hook or leading hay maker but once that attempt gets blocked then it will be quickly followed up with a straight right to face or an overhand right to the face no idiot is gonna throw back to back hooks unsuccessfully.
Use your agility as an advantage, and move the fuck out of the way when they try to swing at you and if you are successful use your agility one more time and run like hell.
I'm a little GAL (5-2); this technique works just fine for me, thanks.
Folks watching this: Realise that this is not the full technique, it's just a block, the BASIS. That hand can then come back down in many different strikes; example, a quick snap to the side of the neck across the brachial artery and you've got a knockout. That elbow can also be used as an excellent strike in itself, right up under an opponent's jaw. Get used to snapping! it up fast, and use your hips to shift your weight.
AWESOME i am watching videos today... an the techniques are all things that I have used without knowing them before... THIS is one of some xD which saved me several times... better than raising my arms...
i like how hes calling that a technique,, anyway if the guy has a heavy punch u fly and end up rolling on the floor anyway... if your enemy is much bigger than you the only thing u can do is run xD you can propably out run him. (or try kicking him in the nuts but if that fails u only gonna make him angrier.)
you know what I try that I fight with so taall guy and I try that and he punch me in th eface no in ear in face and I knock down but then I forget abaut thtan man then I fight wih him and I win!!!!!!!
I'm 5'9, 172 lbs, I lift weights, I'm also a fifth degree black belt.
If I'm slapping you, and you block it like that, I breaking your arm with a simple grab and pivot. Find something better, because there are a ton of opportunities- I could kick you from that point, I could wait for you to punch or elbow, get your waist, and destroy you. Unless they're drunk or inept, don't use this.
@FabiozziLoGuidice If this is all you do, you WILL get your butt kicked. But, it is a very effective block when followed up with a counter or reposte. If done correctly you'd never get the chance to grab OR pivot because I'd be inside your guard and have my thumb in your eye or your balls in my fist. I'm not a ring fighter; I don't play by any rules.
Did this come from stopping pivot punches and missed cross punches from the bare knuckle era ?
In most boxing I've done I was taught to roll with some of the punches to take the power out of them from this technique but does this leave you open in Mauythia or MMA to kicks or combinations?
Its in most boxing but I am glad to see the modern jujitsu fighters using boxing techniques more because of MMA. Good video.
@Giuse1245 This block is for a missed cross or sometimes in some books you see it even for high round house kicks, most of the time I've heard it called a "cover" but if you want to stop an uppercut you keep your elbows pointed down & hands up to catch the uppercut on your elbows which are held into your ribs or you use a downward forearm block to set enemy up for a combination. Get Boxing mastery by Mark Hatmaker & drill from it, a good book but this video also knows what he is talking about.
Randy Couture uses this motion in his "dirtyboxing" and the same movement is part of a compound movement in the Silat drills of Guru Maul Mornie. People should look into exposure to silat for self defense. This is a unique focus on self and movement that is distinct from the training of ring sports.
I'm six feet tall and weigh in at 141 lbs.. So I'm tall but not very heavy. I cant say I'd ever use this technique. I'll stick to what I've learned in my 7 years of Martial Arts training. I dont look to fight a bigger guy but if I ever do I think I could get out of it with little to no damage. lol. I just hope I can block everything. haha
This is primarily a hook defense. Logically if they are throwing a hook (or haymaker), you come into the person and your elbow lands into their bicep. They are throwing their arm at you and you are throwing your elbow at their arm = charlie horse for the bicep. Since you just came into them, you are in prime position to land a short range strike i.e. elbow, uppercut, knee. It's effective if you know how to apply it.
If I tried this in a fight, not only would my arm get screwed up from the first hit, "that is" if he was going for my head, because he might not be, he might be going for my body and land horribly on my ribs that I just offered up. This move is way too slow compared to the opponents lightning barrage of multiple strikes, not to mention their knees or kicks and take downs that will undoubtedly instantly follow.
This move is just asking the opponent to please cave in all your very exposed ribs.
@NYCxFreestyled Then you get knocked the fuck out, find this guy again, and get him to teach you how to dodge and weave as well as predict and see oncoming strikes.
@NYCxFreestyled Exactly !! You listen to this guy and you will get your ass kicked ! He does NOT train under realistic Conditions and Under Realistic Attacks , He is full of it !
theres a spot under the armpit that leads right to the lungs if you get hit there while doing that kind of a block you will get the wind nocked out of you pretty baddly
i just punched a big dude and got my ass kicked, maybe he watched a vid for fighting small asians (for those who watched How To Fight Someone Bigger Than You)
How to fight someone bigger then you? This video I guess is for fighting someone more muscular then you? That happens lots. Why not someone that's actually more then 2 inches taller then you and is more muscular. Why doesn't this guy demonstrate with someone who is 6ft.
running inside the enemy while doing that would just hit his face or even hook the jaw making it to a counter attack with devastating effects. the movement into the attack would actually also neutralize most of the power from the incoming strike which you are trying to block and maybe even disrupt enemys balance... i love this move and will continue to train it.
@craigmcphillips Correct, that is good, once your elbow goes up to block the hit, they have opened up their "zone" , you could just glide down their arm and give them a hell of an elbow to between the shoulder and chest joint, thus maybe breaking their arm and "neutrailizing" almost all their possiblilties of still wanting to fight you, even most street fighters quit if they see their own blood, once you're in their zone you can give them all the hell you want.
Todos estos videos de peleas, de autodefensea y de ayudas etc etc.... estan bien... pero no dejan de ser el 90 % teatro. me explico, tanto el atacante como el defensor ya saben los movimientos, por donde le va a venir.... etc....
Quite like the basic technique, similar to something I once saw in systema, once the attackers arm is extended and the strike is blocked it basically opens up the attackers body on whichever side the strike came from and gives plents of opportunity to respond to the attack with one of the attackers arms in a useless position, would only take an extension of the arm used to block and attacker would be down. Should do an application of prickle elbow video, could be very useful. Thanks for posting.
Let me tell you something a smart guy would clinch him when he does that.. im not saying its a bad technique it isnt bad. but im saying a smart guy would clinch knee and the fight would of been over
you rarely have to worry about someone breaking ur jaw or knocking you out. Unless you went up against a professional fighter on the street and didnt know it. If your a professional fighter you have even less to worry about.
Comments like "I'd just punch you straight in the face instead' just show ignorance. This is one technique of many to learn and train with, until they feel natural. Anyone with half a brain can recognise this, so why can't these Youtube-trained keyboard-black-belts?

Hey guys, he teaching one blocking technique, which is a good one. Not for uppercuts not for rib shots and not for jabs, but for big dudes who will throw stupid haymakers to knock you out.

Hm. Open my floating ribs like this? No, thanks. Such pseudotraining on video is giving a sense of false security to those who now think they can fight, which they still cannot. They should either attend normal schooling or at least be left with their awareness of own poor fighting skills. At least they'll know better than fighting and run off.
@thefury187 Not always. I guess it's a general rule, but definitely not always. I've saw a bigger guy with even greater skills get knocked out by a smaller guy. There's always x factors.
@huntingwolf20 It's called luck boyo Idk if you know anything about boxing but tommy hearns for example was 6,2-6,3 and a welterweight/middle he dominated cuz of his sheer size even aganist oppenents better then him.
I don't have problem in a fight if someone bigger than me. I can defense myself against bigger boy when they almost attack me. People you must learn how to fight by your self okay. Because my father taught me how to fight using how to hand to hand. Don't get punched through your face. Remember defeat yourself okay.
If you try to do the prickle elbow from your back in an MMA fight (like the video suggests), wouldn't the top man have a pretty easy transition to a key lock?
@HamSamwich21 If you're talking about a really "big" dude (fat) I'd advise taking shots and back out. Take shots and back out. If they're the type of person that runs straight towards you, move to the side, and when they stop you lunge in and take multiple shots.
@StormJeremy the idea is to turn your body and face away from the punch as well so lets say in a street fight he throws a right haymaker (most likely in a street fight) you cover with your left arm as shown and turn your hips to the right and then after he hits nothing but arm, twist back with a counter right of your own using the moment of your hips and whole body as your turn back to throw the punch
That might stop the left hook or leading hay maker but once that attempt gets blocked then it will be quickly followed up with a straight right to face or an overhand right to the face no idiot is gonna throw back to back hooks unsuccessfully.

Your whole body is open man. That's training a bad habit. Joe Frazier would have none of this. R.I.P

Yeah so since I know how to do this I'm gonna beat the bigger guy? Idk about that one
HamSamwich21 1 month ago
@HamSamwich21 If you're talking about a really "big" dude (fat) I'd advise taking shots and back out. Take shots and back out. If they're the type of person that runs straight towards you, move to the side, and when they stop you lunge in and take multiple shots.

The middle of your face is wide open.
Troll video...
StormJeremy 1 month ago
@StormJeremy the idea is to turn your body and face away from the punch as well so lets say in a street fight he throws a right haymaker (most likely in a street fight) you cover with your left arm as shown and turn your hips to the right and then after he hits nothing but arm, twist back with a counter right of your own using the moment of your hips and whole body as your turn back to throw the punch
