This is really beautiful. I tried to love hospice and on some tracks i really did, but most of the time the lack of structure on the songs really threw me off. After listening to this album a couple of times i think it feels a lot more complete and comes together better as a whole, also it shows quite a development in their musical style.
The most classic thing happened...I'm sitting here at work at the front desk of a hotel in Oklahoma of all places and this complete and total redneck asked me, "What are you listenin to?" I replied, "Oh, it's a band called The Antlers." He says, "Sure is soothin...and calmin." Only imagine it in a total countrified accent from a reasonably old guy...You really know how great these guys are when rednecks even like it. Usually people just look at me like I'm a weirdo.
@31makimba sounds like you usually look at people as no more than 'rednecks'... the ironic thing about the term 'redneck' is it is used to mean someone who is uneducated and bigoted, and when the term is applied to a stranger - often purely because of their appearance - this is bigotry and ignorance in itself. people can't be boxed so easily
@bachelorfox Believe me, I know exactly what a redneck is. I'm from Oklahoma and grew up here. I left when I was 16 and I'm leaving again in 6 days. I've come back for 3 reasons and all of them were surrounding tragedy. I'm aware of meanings and stereotypes and everything that comes along with it. I know about urband rural lifestyles and this guy was a REDNECK!
@31makimba I think I know what you mean. As awesome as I personally feel the song resonates with me, I am always a bit surprised when others share my musical tastes. I would not classify the Antlers as a crowd pleaser
