Another green screen mistake : Forgetting to backlight your subject. Green highlights appear arround the subject that reflect off of the green screen when subject is not properly backlit.
do you like split the video when editing, because I want to know how you do the thing when you snap your fingers and then your background automatically changes or fades in to a background from the green screen.
I have my subject wearing a ping shirt and blue jeans, the jeans look really weird, washed out and with white spots. I don't know what I'm doing wrong... any pointers?
Check out our video "Green Screen Tutorial: How to Light A Green Screen." The two links listed in the description to this clip contain a lot of good info as well. Hope they help! Cheers.
Videomaker, your videos are all very helpful, but I think it would help if it was a lot more lively, like Indymogul. Like all the cheesy music and smiles ALL the time.
good point!! and cuz there is the freedom of the internet..negative ppl like you exist and you just spent your days hating on everyone. Just because your childhood was messed up or something like that.. doesnt mean you have to ruin it for the rest of us.
how did you know my childhood was f'kd up? Wow you are pro man! Cheers ya know what I think I will go cry myself to sleep tonight just because of what you said.... thanks for reminding me!
Check out "Videomaker - Setting up a Green Screen". Also, go to our website and search "lighting for green screen" for many in-depth articles. Hope they help! Cheers.
thechris44: as they eplxained in the video, you need to light your greenscreen and your talent separately. I.e. lights for the screen, and lights for the talent.
@thechris44 The light on the green screen does not light the actor. This means that the light is behind the actor making the actor very dark. Other lights are used to light the actor.
pfff thnx for the tips but i already knew those... the point is that i dont experiment with myself... i learn so much things software and hardware but i dont try to make videos :(
You guys do such a great job defining these basics. I started carrying both a blue and green screen to locations in case the talent is wearing something that won't work for the key. Another trick that has been effective for me is using a kicker (hair light)with a filter to match the background. I use straw, or amber for "inside" shots and a blue or color balanced gel for "outdoors." It helps delineate the subject from the background. Keep up the good work.
@ScottMatthewSullivan ok thanks

I guess another tip is: Make sure the activity of the subject matches the background.
2:22 - I had to laugh a little watching her flip through a magazine with the beach and sunset to her back. ;)

how much was your greenscreen and where did you get it?
Spongebobmagic1 1 year ago
The rim of the subject seems to have a line around it that gives away the existence of a green screen why is that and how do i get rid of that?

the matched lighting wasnt much improved... Try lighting behind the green screen?

I'm using a Flip HD to record, do you think the camera has anything to do with the quality of the chroma key?

The match lighting with background example does not work. Rather than show a correct example, you merely show a different example.
