My professional soccer career was effectively ended by an appalling ‘horror tackle’. The guy leapt at me with a 2-footed lunge, his boot going straight through my lower leg.

On the pitch & in the crowd people were throwing up in disgust as my leg literally flapped around, blood spurting everywhere. True, it probably didn’t help matters that I performed a stupid ‘comedy dance’ to lighten the situation. In hindsight, that was a poor & tasteless decision, but I was known as the ‘club joker’.
