Its called getting older...your voice isn't always what it used to be...its worn out from the way he used to sing...but he has adjusted nicely i think to his changing voice.
Elton is better than any new band today, I agree, but his voiced peaked as a young man and slowly got worse. I don't say that as an insult, I say it as a fact it happens to all bands. Same thing happens to opera singers. You peak then start going downhill as your body starts to go down hill...it's a scientific and logical fact.
another reason might be is that he is fat, his body is not the same body of his youth, yet it could be if he wanted to be slim. I think He can't sing the way he used to because he is fatter and weaker. Maybe his vocal cords are worn out, burned out. Have you heard Robert Plant try to sing his old songs? he can't hit those high notes anymore.
you can get real footage free if your on an 02 mobile but only about 1 minute or so of benny and the jets and one minute or so of philly and a 2 minute interview with elton john :)
he has a bluesy feel now, but this version and his cd voice both sound great in their own way. i love them both!!! ^___^ :D

I love his voice and old and recent! :) he doesnt have the same amount of control nowadys but who does after been singing so long! rock on elton !!!

i like the way he sang this sing when he was much younger...he keeps changing the way he sings, and the change is not always better

singers voices get worse as they get older. That applies to all rock bands.

they change and eltons is still great!
i saw him saturday night and he was spectacular
soo much better then these amatuer bands out there now =)
