  • I'm just happy the good guys won WW2.

  • Why is my face leaking ?

  • brill i love it what a sight thanks ;-)

  • The amazing thing about watching Spitfires is this overriding urge to want to be in one. It's like a pedigree sports car, it just looks so right.

  • Beutifull

  • 4 people are german

  • Comment removed

  • @TheFlyingDutchman111 Hoping to catch likes, but it's getting old Dutch boy! Though proud to be German I simply love anything related to WW2 - that means including enemy apparel...you just stereotyping!

  • @ArenaOfTheAncients this shows me that Germans don't have a sense of humor... (and yes this is stereotyping aswel)

  • @TheFlyingDutchman111 Well if Mr. says so then everything makes sense...thanks for the enlightenment.

  • @ArenaOfTheAncients any time ;-)

  • @ArenaOfTheAncients Nice reply. I'm english married to a german girl and people are the same wherever you go in the world, good and bad in every city.

Incidentally, I believe you are a reincarnated WW2 pilot, or tank man. You should try hypnotic regression and find out.

    Peace.

  • @TheFlyingDutchman111

No, 4 people are from Hawker.. :)

  • @TheFlyingDutchman111

I'm English, I love these planes but when people say to me "we could have been speaking German now..." I think, "what language are we speaking?!?!" Sounds like Urdu wherever I go...

  • @TheFlyingDutchman111 If germans don't laugh about nazi-jokes and a so-called lack of humour they are not spoilsports but just bored by ancient groaners. About your little, insignificant country and its few people I don't even know one single anecdote to broadcast but we constantly hear (and read) trite bullshit like your brainless emission and are told to love it or being called party poopers.

  • @Dokker62 Well done, you've just perfectly itterated his point on your lacking humour with that response. There's no need to get so offensive towards his entire country over one remark; you could have ignored him, or put him down to being a troll, or even retorted with some other (light-hearted) though mindless war cliche...

Your reaction probably partly to blame for him even provoking you in the first place.

  • @Atrollin2 Didn't expect anything else by an english man: Everybody has to laugh about the same jokes you do because as is known nobody beats your legendary sense of humour. At first it's my choice how to react with something, thank you very much. Secondly the only guy to be p.o.'d about my commentary seems to be you and not its receiver or are you his spokesman of late ? Maybe you should read the other reactions on his spam. Are these guys spoilsports, too, or just not german ?

  • @Dokker62 You're playing the victim here, I didn't once refer to you being German, but you seem to assume I think that's what makes you a grouchy shitter. Also, you called a Belgians country insignificant, so from what I can gather so far you hate pretty much everybody.

Also, what do you mean by "nobody beats your legendary sense of humour"? I don't consider myself to be particularly funny, but I can see why people get such a kick out of your vulgar responses. Seriously, lighten up a bit.

  • @Atrollin2 Don't playing anything, wise guy. If you answer postings not adressing you at all you might deal with certain respondings. I originally just explained a widespread existential orientation in Germany considering e.g. revanchism or our disastrous nazi-history. If a funster like him spoofs a whole nation by a hackneyed saying everything is fine but when I just denote equally his country to be not the hub of the universe I am grouchy ? When do you tell him how to live ?

  • the most beautiful thing made by man.God bless you RJ Mitchel.

  • still takes you into the time of man era.. sound of hell ..

  • why are the madkings on each plane different then each others ???

  • @torinotom71 Because the markings changed throughout the war and the planes repersent different marks of Spitfire

  • @iceblue345

Sorry, but even 1st generation jets could easily outperform them. A third world country armed with Mig21's from the 60's (capable of Mach 2) could easily down a whole squadron of them, even if piloted by top pilots.

The thing is, turbines are way more fuel efficient (power-to-weigh ratio) than piston engines, and that's the reason no piston engines has ever been considered in a modern airforce post WW2. They are not very economical you know.

  • @SteveSpicerPortsmuth well 20 years is alot of development time look at how the computer got better in 20 years

  • @SteveSpicerPortsmuth I understand your point, but bad choice of aircraft for comparison. Mig21's wouldn't be able to fly slow enough to stay behind a Spit long enough to shoot it down, the Mig would stall.

  • @SteveSpicerPortsmuth

A piston engined Sea Fury has shot down Mig's.

  • superb! brings tears to my eyes

  • Beautiful .................. (lest we forget)

  • Just watching makes the hairs on the back of your neck bristle. There is no aircraft like it past or present. Superb.

  • you wouldnt want to be flying near here if you were part of the Axis lol!

  • @iceblue345 totally agree but they would only be good for peace keeping im affraid, such a shame of what modern technology does...

  • GORGEOUS!

  • chokes me up everytime i watch this

  • This Is Just Beautiful And stunning Plane

  • just incredible trully incredible

  • wow

  • i adore

  • I saw that no;5 was a later mark . . still it was a wonderful sight to see..

  • Strange to see the later marks nailed to the sky while the earlier, larger wings bob about in the thermals! During its lifetime the Spitfire nearly doubled all its performance figures, including weight....even ending up with two sets of propellor blades!

  • i suppose the 4 dislikes are german ?

  • What marks were they?.

  • @myketyke1

The one with XT-D is a Mk IIa

The one with ZD-C is a Mk Vb

The one with 21-V is a Mk IXe

The other two are both Mk XIXs

  • is one of them painted in greek clours correct me if i am wrong....but the plane in 0:42 i believe it is

  • @LuckyBolt100 The one at 0:42 is painted in the RAF's South East Asia Command (SEAC) colours, which was used by all Commonwealth forces in that region. They removed the red from the roundels to avoid confusion with the Japanese Raising Sun

  • HAAA..those magnificient mans and his flying machines.

  • wow, i love u, sound is fantastic,ta for my pa

  • can someone tell me does anyone still makes the spitfire, can a person buy one, where, and if someone knows what is the price of one of these :) please

  • @SERDAROTmkd An Australian company make a kitplane 80% scale replica of the Spitfire

    supermarineaircraft . com

  • Simply first-class, great pictures of fantastic machines held in the airworthy state,

    RESPECT

    warbirds-power.de

  • That's rare!

  • Third sexiest plane ever built :)

  • @warrdogg38 Correction. THE sexiest plane ever built

  • @mr9396 P-51D Mustang :)

  • @warrdogg38. true. but naturally i am biased because by grandfather was a spitfire pilot and he told me loads of amazing stories.

  • Furthest back, left,

    not quite your typical Spit,

    a bit older I think.?

    The Merlin's hum,

    poetry in motion,

    I say chaps...............

    "Tally Ho" !

  • @libra61060 Thats a much later model spitfire with a more powerful Griffon engine. SO you were right, its different, but its later, not older.

  • Fabulous.

  • AWESOME...AMAZING...CRAZY...BEAUTIFUL...!!!

    KEEP ON FLYING!!!

  • awesome..one of finest ww2 plane..love spit

  • Aw, just as I started watching this clip, the song "Romantic flight" from the "how to Train Your Dragon" soundtrack started playing on my iTunes player in the background, and the combination of this footage with the music fit so perfectly and was so beautiful I almost teared up. Love warbirds like these so much, and love it even more to see them restored and kept flying today.

  • Comment removed

  • Majestic

  • SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL

  • now they should break formation and dog fight!

  • @gowill2 They will when Gerry gets enough 109's restored.

  • AWESOME!!!! DAMN IVE GOT THE CHILLS UP AND DOWN MY SPINE LISTEN TO THEM HUMMMMMM!!!!

  • a really fine video, thanks

  • @1982rf but the huricane could not out fly a spitfire, and was made mostly of wood causing more deaths when shot down compared to a spitfire. the spitfire is the greatest feat of engineering this world has seen and the pilots back then are amazing people. the huricane is a lovely plane but the spitfire imo is the greatest

  • cool !!

  • What was the chase plane? The cameraman did an excellent job recording. Spitfires are the best looking plane ever.

  • this is the sight and sound of Britain's freedom and democracy...WE DO OWE IT TO THE FEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Cool :D

  • Its supermarine not submarine...

Hawker Hurricane scored more kills and was deployed in more theatres of operation.

Spitfire was more of a poster boy...

  • i wished i had one of those :P

  • The Spitfire had to be the most beautiful plane ever! I built an RC spitfire that just love to see it fly! Thanks for sharing this video with us!

  • Whena formation like this flies over. Every Englishman should raise a fist and cheer.

These are not just beautful flying machines. They are planes that had they not existed, the world would not be as free as it is today.

  • @assym2006 Yeah that's a really intelligent reply...

  • Georgeous!

  • the best video . Im love airplanes of the 2 war

  • fantastic

  • beutiful...how meny spitfires are still fliying....love them..

  • @MyDavid1960 I'm sure there are only 50 spits flying in total, but many don't see the sky, as some don't even get let out of museums, so i would say in total there maybe as little as 30 spits that are really used and thats a world wide figure. one word "rare.

  • Yes, quite right. The Red centre of the British / Commonwealth roundel had to be painted out because after Pearl Harbor your AA gunners aircraft recognition not being very good there was a tendency to shoot at anything with a "rising sun" on it! After a few blue on blues we decided that discretion was the better part of valour!

  • lmao @lander4545

i was thinking the same thing, but the thing was the German people in the towns and villages hate nazi Germany, i was watching this programe called The Dumbusters or The real Dambusters and they interviewed some of the village people there.

  • Spitfires, England...Heaven.

  • I love it when allied planes fly at German air shows. They must say to themselves,"What in the hell were we thinking"!

  • @lander4545

I Tell you what we think when we read such posts like yours: We know that you guys use WWII to distract by your own crimes like slavery, killing the native americans and so on. Or the british and their empire.

What we think when we see a spit is simple : Wow, what a beutiful airplane!

Will you guys ever stop pointing your fingers at other countries, while your own one has killed even more millions of ppl in the last centuries?

  • @44SirLoopalot: Guilty complex??

  • No, just sick of this endless blablablaming from you guys.

  • The Battle of Britain reloaded :-P

  • one word: BEAUTIFUL

  • 44Beats

No, far eastern markings...removal of red from roundels to avoid confusion with Japanese aircraft.

  • there aussie markings i think .

  • Not just Aussie markings aussiebluemax, but all RAF and Commonwealth air forces operation in South East Asia and the Pacific against the Japs.

The one is this vid represents 152 Squadron RAF

  • Cool as, was that a Finish(finland) flying colour scheme?

  • Which one are you referring to 44Beats?

  • No. The Fins flew Me 109's!

  • The Finns flew many types of planes including Hurricanes

  • Glorious....poetry right there.

  • my god sex with propellers

  • it's so fantastic! the beauty of flying, the beauty of spitfire and the beauty of flying in formation itself

  • the most beautiful aircraft in existance, love th engine sound

  • What a smooth flying for 60 + year old machines.

The pilots are always watching the camera. Cruise speed?

  • watch it, bandits on your six

  • No words do justice. Man made Spitfires and Concorde. He should stop now.

  • Tally ho!!!!

  • Nice tidy formation. Squadron Leader Rex would approve.

  • Ft Lt Moggy Cattermole has a message for Fritz, "Watch the birdie you bastard!"

"A Piece Of Cake," what a superb book & TV series. :)

  • I love the BF109,but also the Spits are not bad!! :-) nice airplanes!!

  • thats some impressive formation flying

  • Cracking sight, wonderful machines!

    H

  • What a beautiful sight.

  • WW2 are best aircraft ever ! Never have to stop Flying,

  • @USHomeboy WW2 had the best pilots too... they had to dog fight.

  • What an awesome formation!

Everytime I've flown in to Heathrow, I've thought about those brave men in their deadly beautiful machines, doing the heavy lifting that bested the Luftwaffe, and helped buy my country the time we needed to gear up properly (and virtually unmolested) for the war effort.

Coming up on the 65th anniversary of The Invasion, I say God Bless the RAF.

  • Have no words for this.

    JUST BEAUTIFUL!!

  • wow !

  • Great video with my favourite flying machines! :)

  • Why do three of them have there rear wheels down?

  • to save fuel.

  • Wouldn't the drag from the wheels being down cause them to use more fuel?

  • It was probably just the design from back then, taildraggers were the most common type of setup for these particular aircraft.

  • Never realized what a beautiful plane the Spitfire is until I saw this video!

  • Thanks

Has to be the prettiest aircraft ever made!

When you stand next to one it is a stunning thing.

Even when compared to your amazing Raptors!

  • @lander4545 A retracting hydraulic pump system's weight would had even more impact of the fuel consumption I believe.

  • @lander4545 quite probably. You may be interested to know that the exhaust pipes either side of the nose originally stuck straight out until they discovered that making them "swept back" increased the top speed by something like 10mph, a reasonable increase on the previous top speed.

    Beautiful aircraft, thanks Moxley

  • "Why do three of them have there rear wheels down?"

Retractable tail wheels weren't introduced until the Mk VIII

  • @lander4545 Earlier marks of Spitfire, up to and including the earlier Mk Ixs had fixed tailwheels. After the Mk VIII (made after the MkIX) they all had retracting tailwheels.

  • @samleggett82 not quite correct I'm afraid

All Mk IXs and the Mk XVI (basically Mk IXs with Packard-built Merlins) had fixed tailwheels, but all the rest of the later ones had retractable tailwheels starting with as you said the Mk VIII

  • what a magnificent sight

  • The BBMF are great

  • nice planes i saw once in live in finland and and that are very good plane fantastic

  • My gran tells me that it used to give everyone hope to hear a spitfire fly overhead in Sussex during the darkest part of the war.

  • Engine sound.

  • lol im not that good!

  • The Rolls Royce merlin and the Daimler Benz 605 has a different sound.Realy different!

  • The sound of the engines more than likely.

The Daimler Benz has a very distinct sound to it.

  • Shame the Nazis lost though

  • bobsaver: my gran told me she was hiding her kids and then herself in the street-grave when haring the sound of a Merlin engine, Spitfire or Mustang...and she even told me she felt the air schocks when shotting upon.

But unlike many others, and not only germans, she admits that she was close to an electric distribution plant..therefore she thinks...no... sorry thought it was mend to the electric housing...but she was mistaken the attacks heavely continued after the electric housing was hit...

  • You started it. You dragged Britain into it by invading Poland. We ended it.

  • And here we are again: The mighty statement since kindergarten: YOU STARTED IT

If You could give me an answer why Germany started it? I think not...You just now Germany started WW2 with the attack on Poland

True...as the fact: The USA are the only nation who dropped atomic bombs(plural) on civil cities. I know the reasons and all the circumstances why they did it and therefore even can understand some of the actions. But the "they started" argument is naive and infantile

  • And the "you kept bombing after the electric plant was destroyed" is equally disingenuous. German were the aggressor and we did what we had to do to stop you. Do not come on with your "we were hard done by" rhetoric and then get upset when someone points out the obvious - we kept going until Germany were stopped. YouTube is not the forum for this debate.

  • See I dont deny the cruelties of the Nazi-regime, I dont deny that the Luftwaffe bombings were cruel and often even targeted against civil points. I am glad the Nazi-regime was fought down by the allies cause it is responsible for the darkest history germany has to bear. I am not defending Hitler with all his idiotic helpers. And every place were you can freely talk and express your opinion is the right place.

BTW: wonderful video of a wonderful plane thx MoxleyMauser, honestly

  • Glad to share it with you.

  • Hello MoxleyMauser:

right now I am doing a picture to honour a great pilot, I am talking about the unfortunatly infamous I.W. Bazalgette.

I found his story during my research for V1 and V2 bases in northern France. I saw the picture of a Lancaster on fire above the church of Senantes in France. I know the place therefore I thought its best to redraw that particular situation. My Lancaster 3d model is 75 percent completed and then I will post my tribute for I.W. Bazalgette, who was a great man

  • wow, I did a huge error in my last comment, sorry, mea culpa, to I.W.Bazalgette. I didnt mean infamous, I mend "not famous".

I beg Your pardon for my mistake concerning such a honorable man. In my language the pre-suffix "un or in" means the difference from the following word like "famous" is "bekannt" and unknown is "unbekannt" therefore wrote "infamous" instead of "not famous" sorry for that

I.W Bazalgette is a person who is worth to honour.

  • man i wish ww2 flight simulators wer this real!

  • One of the most beautiful machines ever designed... can't stop staring at its marvellous elliptical wings!

  • WOW !!! is the onlything i can think of

  • Very Beautiful!

  • The greatest plane ever created!

  • AWSOME

  • to bad you couldn't get a chance to fly one of those WW2 fighters. You would likely notice it was a little perkier than the C17. you fly. One of my favourite aircraft is the Dakota aka gooney bird or C 47 . Properly known as the DC3 they started using them before the war and some of them are still flying to this day

  • Yes, the DC-3 is a very reliable aircraft, I have flown in one before, you do not realize you big of an aircraft it actually is until you see one, just like the C-17.

  • Hi Moxley. Spittys were powered by Rolls Royce engines. The first Spits had the RR Merlin engine which rotated clockwise looking at the prop from the pilots seat. After a while RR developed the Griffin engine which rotated counterclockwise from the pilots seat. I thought I read somewhere that the Griffins had larger valve covers which required the cowling to have the bulge in it.

  • Hey Moxley. Aircraft UMG and S have bulges on the cowling. Are they griffin powered Spits? Great video BTW

  • A great sight, thanks!

  • awesome, thank you for post it!!

  • truely amazing
