i've known this song for years.. and as part of a process that i personally go trough, i listened back to this song last week for a fresh "interpretation" and boy.. did i get obsessed? i cant help it.. its freaking beautiful and not a day went by that i havent listened and sang along with it ever since... know what im saying?
don't be rude to someone for asking a perfectly polite question. if the meaning is so beautiful and clear to you, then just explain it to the person who asked. :)
@Ruffajones Drug induced?..What a stupid person u are...Arcade fire what an insult....Back 2 boarding school 4 u....What references please in this song are they advocating drugs?....Explain yourself please?.....Get yourself a life.....
@Ruffajones The song is about losing the shelter of your childhood home. Snow buries your old neighborhood (metaphorically); your parents are crying (depressed? divorced?). You forge a connection with someone close by (a "neighbor") and try to grow up, but you feel cut off, like you can't really make it on your own ("we try to name our baby but we forgot all the names we used to know"). The last portion is about making positive change: "purify the colors," "turn all the lead...gold."

While this song sounds nice. Does anyone really understand what they are trying to say? It seems very drug induced to me.

@Ruffajones
This is a beautiful song with awesome, meaningful lyrics, and if you don't understand them then that's really too bad. Nothing to do with drugs.
