I know that Angela was with Callaghan at this point and made the rounds to Nicks, Oppegard, et al, but its clear as day that she was one of Frank Carroll's pupils. Look at the mohawk entrance 3Lz/2T, her sit and camel spin, stroking, the 3F preceded by steps, the circular step sequence, spiral sequence etc.
The same thing happened when Tiffany Chin, Jenny Kirk, and Michelle Kwan switched coaches; they all looked like something that Maribel Vinson-Owen/Frank Carroll would have produced.
Politics probably. She was a first time skater at Worlds, and the judges don't know her. In 2001 when she skated a similar clean SP, they put her in 3rd place.
@uwoeric you cant compare Angela of 2000 to 2001. 2001 she was so much better, far more artistic and stylish. In 2000 she was technically solid but so boring. Remember at Nationals that year she skated cleanly and came 4th behind newcoming Cohen, Hughes, and Kwan with a fall. So it had nothing to do with name, she just wasnt that good yet.
I think it's all a question of reputation. Like uwieric said, it was her first Worlds and judges didn't know her. So, they were "cautious", not putting her in the first places with a great performance like that. I think it was unfair, but we see it so often in figure skating...
@AnyoneElse22 this was not her first Worlds. Her first Worlds was in 1999. And this program couldnt really have been placed any higher than maybe 6th. It certainly wasnt better than Maria, Irina, Michellle, Vanessa, or Sarah.
underscored just because shes new...too many eastern bloc judges on panel

Low marks. This program had high technique (except for the spiral sequence) and no deductions. Where do they get 5.1?

She probably had a .6 deduction for sleep indusion. Dick Button termed her best at this point in her career, the refridgerator skater.

thats not what dick button said.

It's more than just jumps, with everyone skating so well it was nitpicking.
