@qazwertyjohn2 Microsoft does not support Steam because Steam allows free patches and download content. They also force developers to rent Microsoft servers for online gaming. That's why Portal 2 multiplatforming is impossible on Xbox 360 as long as Microsoft sustains this policy and that's why Xbox 360 Team Fortress 2 players can't get patches and updates.

Good stuff, wouldn't mind seeing more games have these capabilities available. I'm a more predominant PC gamer myself and agree the mouse and keyboard style is dominant over a controller, but over time, PS3 and 360 owners can adapt to become better playing with PC. The idea can only be for the better bringing so many gamers to one scene making a bigger community. I can't think of a reason to not do this for most games. It makes perfect sense to have this.

If two competing companies join there wouldn't be an opposition so all the market would be dominated by them (just like in Monopoly) they could do anything there, get games for 80$ online service for even more as we the players cannot do anything about it. We cannot go anywhere if this happens. However even if this happens there would be a strong PC market to stop all of this. Also they cannot join because of Microsoft Xbox policy.

Xbox360 actually tried to integrate crossplatforming to their games, but said "pc wins all the time" (due to mouse accuracy) specifically FPS. That was really ashame! How about L4D? (Doesnt really require competitive play) or even an RTS? Steam is really thinking outside the box, and I expect many more cross platform games!

If you buy the ps3 version and then download it on the pc by using that copy, can you play against someone else who is using your downloaded copy while you are using the ps3? Or does steam only let you use the pc version of portal 2 while using the same steam account that you would be using on the ps3, because that might make it impossible.

1. Fanboys will start a war during the game, like what's happening at the comments section.

You cant have the free pc/mac version if you rented it of course. The retail box comes with a steam code. You punch in that code during the ps3 setup of the game and it will give you the free pc/mac version.
