  • haha clever sod

  • Nothing illegal about a vehicle traveling in its lane at or below the speed limit.

It is not running through red signals or making illegal lane changes.

  • Lmfao, legend.

  • haha me and my mates did this once we tailed an ambulance down a one way road the amount of traffic we cut, we usally sit there waiting like 15min to get dwn one road sometimes. the other time we were infront lool

  • I've never been to NZ, however, I was in the firetruck that day, in spirit. ;-)

  • change title to fuckin smart van driver. thats how you get you shit done!

  • isnt this illegal? It was on Die Hard 3 so it must be

  • stupid driver....

  • I honestly think it's hilarious. Win for that guy!

  • they have to shoot this fcking idiots.!

  • I'm sure the driver of the van was an Indian driver!!! :P

  • I love doing this

  • WHAT PART OF "KEEP BACK 500 FEET" DO PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND?!?!?!?!?!

  • In moscow this type of escort in rush hours costs about 50 bucks

  • worst? I think that's a brilliant idea! lol

  • don't mistake popularity with bad popularity. look at your feedbag ¬_¬

  • I was the driver of this truck, a bit further on i did a hand brake turn and it flipped over 16 times. I fell out of the window but luckily fell into Jordans gash!! Thank fook for that!!

  • Sounds like bull to me. Team Leader isnt a term even used in the fire service, and the fire service doesnt normally allow staff to respond in there own cars. Im sure the OIC on board could have handled it.

  • @CrustyDmon we respond in our pov all the time where i live but we r also supposed to have lights and sirens in the vehicle on the other hand though if we have someone under the age of 18 we can not run emergincy traffic in our pov

  • Back draft haha

  • far out what a wanker

  • Unfortunately, here in Poland it's quite common, that when a fire truck/ambulance drives through an intersection, several cars follow it because they don't want to wait on trafiic lights..

  • he's not doing anything wrong really,,, he got out of the way,,, and then re joined the trasffic flow,,, just like the other two cars that were doing the same

  • haha,genius

  • hes strip streaming the truck!!!!!

  • @rohitdewani maybe you mean Slip Streaming?

  • What an asshole

  • He's not drafting, he's playing football. The van is the ball carrier and the fire truck is the blocker.

  • xD nice vid + u earned a subscriber

  • the fire truck should have hosed him away!

  • haha breaking the law. PlebScrubber if he was the team leader then why the hell is he not on that engine??? why the hell is he in a van???

  • I am a firefighter with Birkenhead 821, and I was in that firetruck. The driver of the van is actually the team leader for Birkenhead 821 and we requested on our radio that he follow us to the fire. This actually turned out to just be a small bark fire in a garden.

  • @PlebScrubber Sounds plausible. Odd though, that you suddenly remembered this now and not a month ago when you were speculating about it. And how come your profile says you're in Australia?

  • @thekiwicanuck Well I have recently moved to Australia because fire fighters are paid much better here.

  • @PlebScrubber you moved to another country to get paid better???? why do the fire men in Australia strike for better money??,

  • @TARBABY71 NZ economy is stuffed... big unemployment, high crime. Food and housing costs so much more and pay is less. Why do you think so many kiwis are in australia? Do some research...

  • @thekiwicanuck because he's some kid on youtube and he's full of shit? lol

  • @thekiwicanuck 'cos it's not true

I was in that truck the driver or commander or whatever and we were going to the local Tesco 'cos the '48 can beer' was in a buy one get 3 action :))

  • @frxvt Hahaha no Tesco in NZ, but that's a great deal on beer! XD

  • @thekiwicanuck good point

  • @thekiwicanuck ooooo burn you should know right pledscrubber

  • @thekiwicanuck YA I WAS IN THAT TRUCK TOO! I'M FROM CANADA AND I REMEMBER THIS TEAM LEADER BEING IN TRAFFIC DOING NOTHING YEA YEA AND HE YOU KNOW JUST FOLLOWED US TO THE FIRE WITH OUT ANY SAFETY EQUIPMENT OR ANYTHING HAHAHA HES A GOOD YOUNG LAD THOUGH!

  • @PlebScrubber pic of van next the truck at ure station :)

  • @PlebScrubber dumbass

  • @xmikerinehartx hahaha

  • @PlebScrubber Pleb, is it illegal to do that under normal conditions? I never would, but I'm just curious. Please let me know. :)

  • @DRTMaverick Its not illegal to follow (draft) an emergency vehical... however you must follow all the standard road rules, including the speed limit... the firetruck is free to speed or run lights using due caution

  • @DRTMaverick Following an emergency vehicle legally in most places (that I'm aware of) requires you to follow traffic laws; speed, lane changes, stopping for signals.. etc. However in many states you also must be no closer that 200 ft (150 - 250 from what I've seen, or 45m to 75m), basically in case of a quick stop or change in direction. If an engine stops quickly, it maybe to grab a hydrant, which means someone might be jumpiing off quickly; if your right behind, you might not stop in time.

  • @PlebScrubber Shity video... Shity fighter...

  • @PlebScrubber hey mate if you were in that truck. one its not a team leader its a station officer .two how did you request him over the radio when he is in a plain white van with no fire service logo / light siren on it .should not have a radio in it . whats your name? my dad is a station officer at birkenhead

  • @PlebScrubber what siren do they use on the truck?

  • @jimfolk2008 a loud one.

  • @PlebScrubber Shouldn't he of had his hazards on then?

  • @PlebScrubber liar

  • @PlebScrubber liar

  • I hate when people are right on our butts when we are rolling code. These people are idiots....

  • my dad once did this is St.LUCIA followed like for 3 miles

  • without doubt the most pointless and boring video ever posted on youtube

  • @paulcarb Hey thanks, do I get a prize for that! Its also my most viewed, so go figure...

  • @thekiwicanuck No, he's right, the most pointless and boring for sure.

  • @thekiwicanuck Might be because Youtube posted it as recomended for me..btw why did they ?

  • @thekiwicanuck wow cant wait to see your other videos then... amazing

  • @thekiwicanuck is it your most disliked to? lol

  • @thekiwicanuck Hey dont listen to that dipshit. Ok this post is 3 years old but I think you did the right thing. That sucker in the van thought he is smart with braking the law and drafting the fire truck.

  • @thekiwicanuck Im sorry but i must ask, do you have a life or you randomly go out into highways and film the traffic?

  • @Anathor1 Sounds funny coming from a World of Warcraft nerd! If I'm near the highway (as everyone in Auckland city is) and see something happening, am I not allowed to film it? It's a free world...

  • @thekiwicanuck Ok after checking couple more of your videos, i think you are an arsenist, and that you like to see the aftermath of your work, in this case the response of the fireman to the fire you just set. Pretty sure theres something wrong in here.

  • @Anathor1 Paranoid much? Do any of the videos on my channel involve arson? I think there's one, which started while I was out of town...

  • @paulcarb Trust me their are alot worse

  • @paulcarb hell no... its pointless but lets not get crazy

  • @paulcarb It's pointless and boring all right - but I've seen worse. Much worse.

  • @paulcarb Oh, then you should try the wierd part of YouTube...

  • Thats really stupid, bloody dumb van driver, has he/She any idea how dangerous and illegal that is? Had there been the police, that van wouldn't be on the road for a LONG TIME!!!

  • If you follow a firetruck with an unmarked car, you still breaks the law even if you are firefighter...

  • @rederfutube Not with lights and sirens it isn't, as long as you're not following dangerously close.

  • @thekiwicanuck AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • Most wildfires are started by firemen, as a form of job security. No fires, no job.

  • @PlebScrubber Most? I doubt that. "Many", maybe...

Besides, I didn't say wildfire, I said bark fire, as in, smoldering amongst the plants on the motorway verge behind me. Almost certainly caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette from a passing motorist or pedestrian on the next overbridge. The nearest fire station to this incident is the busiest in the country, no job security issues there. A freeway junction monitored by cameras is not where I'd choose to commit arson.. Anymore bright ideas?

  • @PlebScrubber ?????????? You must be kidding. I not saying that has not ever happended but to say "most" fireman start wildland fires is untrue.

  • Theres nothing illegal about the van following the fire truck provided he dosnt speed.

He pulls over lets the firetruck past, indicated back on. Plus I think the driver of the van is actually the fire cheif off duty trying to back him up.

  • @PlebScrubber This truck got stood down before they even arrived. It was only a small bark fire on the side of the motorway, hardly need back-up for that. And there's always chiefs on duty during the day. But you're welcome to believe whatever you want...

  • @TheAmazingRyan1998 That's cool, but Chevyfan86 is wrong...

  • Hey, isnt that the fire cheifs van?

  • @PlebScrubber All the necessary firefighters ride in the trucks. On rare occasions higher-ranking officers will respond in their company cars, which have lights and sirens, as you can see in my video "2nd Alarm Building Fire on McKelvie St, Ponsonby, 13 Dec 08"

  • good sirene. thx europe

in america: sirene MÖÖÖÖÖÖÖHH MUEEEEEEEHH taTUEEEEEEEEE MU MUMUM MU MAAAAAAAAAAAAAA UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

    Fucking american freaks

  • most of u guys sound like jackasses...this van is prob a volunteer firefighter following the truck to get to a call...im a volunteer fire fighter and i have seen this done plenty of times...some fire fighters keep gear in there car incase such an ocassion or they just had it there for no reason...i have never once seen somebody follow a fire truck that was not a responder unless the truck was going speed limit or under

  • @Chevyfan86 Thanks for your input, but that has already been covered in previous comments. Birkenhead 821 is run by a paid crew, not vollies, and you can see the van pull in behind from the line of traffic. Our vollies are supposed to stay reasonably close to the station while on call, so the the trucks usually respond with a full crew. Its different out in the country, but in the city only the Fire Police respond in their own cars. But you're right, most of the commenters sound like jackasses!

  • @Chevyfan86 You've never once seen it happen?

Then I sir... consider you: Liar Class A

  • Ever hear "stay back 250 feet"?

  • i pull right back out after the emergency vehicle and if that van happens to hit me ohh well, sucks to be him

  • nothing illegal in this u overreacted a bit :)

  • @frxvt I know this was not in the US, but here it is illegal to follow closer than 250-500 feet (depending on state laws) from an emergency vehicle with lights flashing. My ex-wife did this exact maneuver several years ago and a highway patrol officer wrote her a $480 citation.

  • @jayci68 ...if u want to make a revolution to make this stupid rule disappear just write :)

I hope not the $480 fine was the reason for the divorce ? :)

  • I hope the fire truck brake checked them!

  • Happens ALL the time on the Van Wyke in Queens NY. Probably 50 or more times a week. Dosen't take more than 5 seconds after the emergency vehicle passes that the lane clogs up behind it with cabs & cars trying to jockey in behind .

  • wtf is that guy doing trying to be a fire fighting van wtf

  • ha ha thats at Auckland's spaghetti junction heading south

  • i followed an ambulance through the country lanes before - it was great because it was legal - the speed limit was 60mph (the national speed limit for a single lane road in britain that has not been categorised) and the ambulance was doing about 60 - great fun!!!

  • lol ive wanted to do this but found out its illegal....hope that fire truck break checked him xD

  • I hope the firetruck hits the breaks suddenly.

  • what a cunt

  • LOL

  • why not to drive like that ? i aint no firefighter ... jackass

  • after reading some of the other comments i have to say SOME of you people not all, are complete fukwits, this is in Auckland New Zealand on the southern motorway as the person who posted this video on here mentions.

  • Looks like someone just watched Die Hard: With a Vengeance.

  • lmfao tht white van followed the fire truck lmfaooo

  • loves diareah your gay ha ha ha you love it in the ass and thats why you get diareah ha ha ha

  • shit that dude was obviously in a hurry and what a smart thing to do really lol thumbs up

  • gayest movie ever

  • I bet you he had to be a YO.

  • smart mother fker

  • What a stupid person...

  • This is just in NY. Most states have a statute that is close to this.. Do some research. The driver of any vehicle other than one on official business shall not follow any authorized emergency fire vehicle in the same lane or an adjacent lane to the one being used by such fire vehicle at a distance closer than two hundred feet while such fire vehicle is displaying one or more red or combination red and white lights,

  • its called tail-fucken-gating! following so close is dangerous for the occupants of the van if the fire trucks makes a sudden stop , also he will ram the truck from the back damaginf the hoses thus interfering.

  • That could have been someone from the family that just happened to get behind the firetruck going to the same place :P

  • All these emergency vehicles should have some sort of camera with a flash to let the fucking drivers know that they're about to get fucked by the police.

  • @Str4t0sPh3rE that's actually a good idea

  • LOL that white bus Follow the fire truck..

  • assuming this wasn't in america...or atleast not the south, as our firefighters think they are also cops and will delay a rescue to chew your ass about bad driving lol

p.s. never have an accident in ga

  • Shifting bro !!!

  • lol sorry but that made me totally laugh

  • HAHA :)

  • lol its uncool and dangerous cause if the truck does emergency stop its gonna wack into the back

  • what an asshole

  • aw brew, I found a nice way to git home quuck, jist call un the fire brugade!

  • it is really annoying when people do that. they see the emergency vehicle and they get behind it to get through traffic and it not only jeopardizes themself, but the crew on the truck and any one driving near by. it is dangerous and not cool!

  • yeah man! :D

  • Why do some people think they are so fucking special they don't have to follow laws or be respectful like the rest of the drives? Someone needs to drag this asshole out of the van and give him a good beating.

  • What country is this?

  • New Zealand.

More info under "(more info)" on the right --->

  • LOL that one good way to beat rush hour.

  • Most emergency vehicles have cctv cameras fitted to them which could be used for evidence if you failed to give way. So they won't personaly give you a ticket but you would get one from the Police. + if you failed to move from in front of most fire appliances they would switch the camera off and your tough guy image would get severely dented aswell as the bone structure of your face.

  • Hahaha sorry but it don't work that way. A police officer needs to be able to make positive id of the driver before issuing citation. Most that will result from that video, is the driver getting warning letter which basically means nothing. As for getting severely dented as well, that is fine i will sue the company and the state for the pain and suffering.

  • Quoting the official New Zealand Road Code:

"If an emergency vehicle (such as an ambulance, fire engine, or police car) is coming towards you or behind you, and is using sirens and/or flashing red, blue, or blue and red lights, you MUST pull over and, if necessary, stop and allow it to pass."

    Sounds reasonable to me..

I don't know where you live, but it must be a Third World hellhole where there's no respect for human life.

Or, more likely, you're just talking crap to sound tough on YouTube.

  • Yeah but Chris the couriers are like that always wanting to get somewhere fast and make money they dont care if they break the rules

  • Tell me about it, I live in the city! Cycle couriers can be even worse...

  • @thekiwicanuck Na a lot countries this happens

  • He was tired of not being of not getting enough back for his tax dollars, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.

  • That's a little rude IMO.

  • hahaha great! The driver sure made good use of the fire department.

  • i hope that firetruck slammed on breaks and that van got what it deserved

  • LOL!!!

  • hell yea

  • wtf he got out the way then followed the truck thats sumthin my cuzin would hehehehe typical mexican tryin to get to a quenceniera (15 year olds party) p.s i dont want to offend anybody besides im mexican

  • i would do that lol i have done it by following cop cars its a fast way to places lol only in good old new zealand ay lol

  • That was an awesome example of taking advantage of a situation. Stupid, but awesome!

  • He's not a volunteer, he's just a jackass. 80% of drivers are jackasses, so this shouldn't really surprise anyone.

  • as one possability, in auckland where berkinhead is, the NZFS has a large volunteer fire police unit which get responded via pagers to incidents. as one possability he could have been responding in private car to this incident and needed to draft the truck to get there quicker. not allowed but some people get carried away when the adrenalin kicks in

  • Hey, good point, I hadn't considered that possibility. However, from memory, the truck was responding to a scrub fire beside the motorway, and the police motorway units usually arrive in droves to direct traffic before anyone else gets there. Also, I thought I heard somewhere that the Fire Police don't respond to motorway incidents, maybe for that reason. But good thinking mate, its nice to get a worthwhile comment for once, LOL!.

  • Of course, everyone criticizing is assuming the van driver wasn't an off-duty or volunteer firefighter on his way to the same incident. It's fairly routine for these firefighters to drive their own vehicles to a location, following whatever firefighting equipment that passes along the way.

In some locations (not all), volunteer firefighters are even allowed to install lights and sirens on their private vehicles to better facilitate travel to an incident scene.

  • Don't be stupid.

  • Look at the upper right hand corner before the Fire Truck aproaches you can see hes part of the heavy traffic and decided to join the Fire Truck. Your argumant may have been right (or more believable, not sure what to say) if we could see the van throughout the video following, if you dont really understand what I mean just ask.

  • Also read the description and you may get a better understanding.

  • moviesunrated > "hes part of the heavy traffic"

So what? Volunteer fire fighters live & work (other jobs) elsewhere, traveling to fires from wherever they might be when a call is heard over the radio. Some, located closer to scene, will arrive before fire trucks, while others arrive later. And some, like perhaps driver of the van in this video, will be passed by fire trucks along the way & will follow behind to the scene. Fairly common stuff, even in Auckland where video appears to be shot.

  • Yeah, I am not against you in any way, so its sortof a 50/50 that he was a volunteer, so you could be right, but we just dont know.

  • not permitted in aukland...

this type of behaviour is dangerous... even by vollys... think about it

  • not in nz!

    US only do that!

  • traineespark > "not in nz!"

Now regret commenting on this video. Intended to introduce one possibility, not start an argument. Was once a volunteer firefighter and what this van driver did (tuck in behind a passing engine) is reminiscent of what we used to do (especially in heavy traffic) to get to a fire. Off-duty firefighters called in did the same. Before commenting, checked to ensure NZ also uses volunteers. None of that proves he is a firefighter, only that it's one possibility. Bye!!

  • what i was getting at is that i know nz do not allow this behaviour by their firefighters...

interesting... an "offduty" ff going to an incident...

most countries with retained or vollys especially in europe have strictt rules... all health and safety... not on truck.. not going to fire...

  • Oh right greytown293, I just now read the preceding comment storm. You all have relevant points, but this was only a tiny vegetation or bark fire beside the motorway in Auckland Central, no 2nd Alarm, vollys, or Fire Police required. From memory the fire was extinguished before this 2nd or 3rd due pump arrived on scene (I could see it all from where I was standing). Thanks guys, but I'm pretty sure this was just a rude driver, not a responding firey.

  • hahaha das ist ja mal geil xD

das sind die amis haben nie was besseres zu tuhn :D

  • women driver

  • Hahaha prick :)

  • thats one way to get thrugh bad traffic...

  • lololololololol

  • lol

  • lolz

  • LOL

  • Was the van speeding?

If not, there is nothing illegal unless following too closely.

There is nothing illegal about using a lane which was previously used by an emergency vehicle.

  • The thing is, the fire truck wasn't using any lane, it was splitting traffic, driving between the lanes. That is illegal for other motorists, its like driving on the median strip, or on the shoulder. Motorcyclists do it all the time, but I've never seen a van do it before...

  • Good point.

But as far as we see, the van was staying within lane #1.

So, although unfair to others, he was legal except if following too closely.

In California, USA, motorcycles may straddle the lane lines and travel between vehicles?

  • OK, I think the law here requires motorcyclists to drive like cars, which kind of defeats the purpose of riding a bike in the first place! But as a consolation they are allowed to use the bus lanes where present...

  • In the U.S. it is illegal to follow an emergency vehicle on call, we are ordered to pull to the side of the road and stop any time we see flashing emergency lights, even if the vehicle is in front of us.

  • There is no law prohibiting following an EV.

You may follow just as you would any other vehicle - not followi
