  • Last I checked doctors charge minimally for medicare patients but if they know insurance companies are paying, they charge at least twice as much more. Profit greed driving quality down, prices up, and turning the most industrialized nation into the nation with the highest infant mortality rate among other sad statistics...the only thing it does well is enrich a few people. Highjacked by greed - a rape of the free market and the American People collectively.

  • not really because the KFF have not been affiliated with Kaiser Permanente since the 80s. They are related only in name due to their founder, but they are two totally different organizations that are not financially tied. The KFF is actually a respected health policy thinktank and is not as some people may erroneously assume, a voice of the healthcare industry.

  • We pay 20% in welfare tax now per employee for our entire life to finance high costs that can only exist in a system of forcible appropriation. A servicer will charge as much as he can to the public credit card for a procedure in our system, there's no competition, limited funds, or voluntary transaction holding him to a lower price. We now have 60 trillion in unfunded medicare promises. We are Madoff with a printing press and we will collapse from this ponzi scheme socialist model.

  • OK, I just looked it up. Windows has shrunk down to 88% from last year. Also, Macs are going up, even in a bad economy (you'd think they'd go down because they're so expensive). That proves that in a free market, if you have the talent and drive, you can succeed.

  • I am from the UK, though I have lived in the US for about 10 years. The national healtcare system in the UK is not perferct, and we sure do complain about it, but it's a hell-of-a-lot better than that 3rd-world health system in the states. I like the states, but the country is behind the developed world in healthcare. It should be a right.

  • The Federal Reserve is NOT a private company. It was established in 1913 through the Federal Reserve Act. It is a government entity with private components. The US president appoints the chairman.

  • It is owned and operated by 7 private banks throughout the world and it has no legal obligation to share its operations with any US (or other) government. Simply because the government signed something into existence does not mean that it is part of the government. That's horrible logic.

  • The Federal reserve is used to cause as much debt to each country as possible, giving the elite bankers (ie. Rothschild's, Rockefeller's, etc.) as much power as possible. The Fed is the reason the States has this crisis, and it has all been constructed on purpose...why? It's just one more move to create one global government, which would be run by the bankers and would give them ultimate power.

  • Government controlled health care is not only totalitarian but an act of state aggression upon the sovereign citizen who alone has the right (using their own money) to choose what medical advice and treatment to get without state interference, oversight or funding. Socialized medicine just like any other state controlled entity brings about higher prices and lower quality, such as waiting 3-5 months for a MRI and up to a year to see a specialist. I should know, I live in miserable Canada!

  • My comment beginning with "The American People" should be the last one read not the first, sorry about the mix up.

  • The American People didn't have the right to vote for their senators during this time of our history, it wasn't until 1913 and the 17th Amendment that this part of the electorate was granted to the people. With all of this being said, it seems that Ron Paul has an extremely rosy, and over-simplistic nostalgia for the past while showing a tendency to over represent the wealth of the nation and under represent the methods in which the wealth was created.

  • Ron Paul has been receiving a lot of attention lately, and why not he's well spoken and talks a lot about the constitution, the fed, the war and so on. He talks about the prosperity of early America before we had an income tax thus conceding that the income tax, regulation, and fiat money are responsible for the economic decline.

  • Although I agree with the private fiat money part, I can't help notice the oversimplifications of his overall thesis. The greatest level of prosperity and economic equality was during the post New Deal period between the 1940s to the late 1970s.

  • Many reforms and regulations of the New Deal were intact during this period esp. the legal recognition of labour unions. There were many inequalities at that time but it was generally a time of great opportunity for upward mobility, esp. when compared to early America. Lets take a close look at early American history. The first 130 years of American history was a time of great prosperity but was also a time of great inequality.

  • It was a time of technological innovation but carried tremendous social cost. Many businesses thrived in a more laissez-faire economy primarily because the lack of regulation created an atmosphere of indentured servitude and the exploitation of working people who had very little rights. Consider the fact that only white male property owners were allowed to vote, no blacks, no natives, no women, not even white males who met the age criteria but didn't meet the property requirements.

  • True they did have the right to peaceably assemble to redress their grievances but business interest were quick to squash dissent and strikes with goons, thugs, and sometimes the local and federal govt. offered support with the national guard and other troops to break up strikes. This was an era of slavery, indentured servitude, extermination and subjugation of native peoples, the theft of their lands, and the expropriation of it's natural resources with exploited under compensated labour.

  • The electorate was systematically handed down to the broader society as a response to the longterm organized dissent on the ground, however it still failed to address many of the labour issues including child labour until many years later. Many sweat shop conditions that we consider deplorable were the norm in this country at least until the progressive era.

  • The only solution I heard was "health savings accounts." What do you do if you don't make enough for a "savings account?" Who among the middle class can 'save' enough to take care of being hit by cancer? I did NOT hear a reasonable response to HOW he would fix the mess of health care. I just don't get what his idea is. He says 'do it wisely.' OK. What does that mean?

  • Well, you need to take the rest of his stances into account. His stance works as a whole... the constitution works as a whole.

    At a very simple level and excluding philanthropic funding, first off the middle class essentially gets at least a 20-40% raise just be not being hit with income tax and other taxes he's looking to abolish.

    saving even a portion of that could help subsidize costs.

You have the right to print a book, but not to make everyone buy your book, for that puts a burden on them. The interviewer fails to ask questions pertaining to how Ron Paul's plan will cover the 48 million uninsured. For-profit insurers have been deceiving Americans since the early 1900s.   • Our private sector is not stable enough for healthcare. The free-market is a great system for other products, however. But when our own healths are at stake a single-payer universal healthcare system is the answer. Just look at the statistics, countries with single-payer univeral healthcare often have the highest satisfaction with their own system.

  • Ron Paul makes all the arguments for a single-payer approach, but not the conclusion. Paying for a single-payer approach through the tax system eliminates entitlements. We can talk theory all we want, but the Single-payer approach is the only alternative being presented to subsidizing the for profit health care industry dinosaur to cover everyone. If Ron Paul wants to keep Medicare - why not have it cover everyone?

  • I'm sure he does and that's why Sicko was such a good movie. R Paul is simply pushing a broken system from which he profits. Since when is it ok for profit making organizations to change their prices depending on who's paying? That is not free market enterprise. That is lying cheating and stealing and Ron Paul thinks it's just fine when the medical industry does it and you pay. That is also the "free market" lie that put republicans in the hole.

  • Thats the problem, we have had government intervention in the health care system for years now, so the government tells drug companies and others, dont worry about pricing, we will pay no matter what.

    If there was a free market for health care allowed to operate, then it would drive prices down very fast. Look at the fields for lazer eye surgery, they have shot down so fast because they operate in the private sector

  • Hey i have hear ron paul state that government didint get involved in health care until 1963. However i want to know where i can find that information. An article,newpapper, or a documentary? I am doing research but cant find it. HELP ANYONE

  • Nothing is free, but it will become much more affordable if freed up from corporate and government control.
