Just bought a canon 550d. It comes with the kit lens 18 -55mm. If I turn the lens to 50mm - will the image quality still the same as a 50mm f/1.8 lens?
Incredible application! Not sure where you were to capture that clip, but the scene and background music really give the viewer a foreboding feeling while demonstrating the capabilities of this lens. It's apparent you have an eye for the "dramatic" cinematography.Outstandingly well done!
@TrevJ91 Naw, I've just never seen someone get so excited over a standard rack focus. It wasn't even all that great of a rack focus to be honest, not to attack the video because that's definitely not might intent with this response.
Alot of people hate the 50mm 1.8 because they think "how can a cheap ass lense be any good?" but like the nikon 50mm 1.8 I went for....the quality is amazing. Maybe the best one I have used for sharpness.
i am just wondering is there any point in buying the 7d because aparently the 550d is half the price but has the same quality but the 7d just shoots quicker and is more weather proof?
You had a bit of the floating green blob in some of the shots. Did you have a uv filter on? I know the uv filter on my lens makes a floating blob when the light hits it right.
@saifmanman the 50mm 1.8 has a fixed focal length (zoom) but not a fixed aperture (depth of field) meaning you can adjust the depth of field. I think this one goes from 1.8 (shallow dop) to 22 (deep)
When you are focusing (with the internal focus on you 50mm fixed) Is there any sound recorded? I know with my current 18-55mm it makes a hell of a lot of noise.
By the way, I love your films, they are very well done.
Unless you have a follow focus, rack focusing might be difficult to achieve (hands moving the camera while focusing). Wish I had a badass mill near me, lol.
Also, action shots with these DSLRs are troublesome due to the rolling shutter and shakiness. But using this for particular shots would be amazing.

I regret very much this lens is not equipped with USM. when the lens is equipped with USM, I feel I have enough to meet the needs of photographers new beginner up to professional. thnks.
I'm having a hard time deciding which lens to get for my T2i. I only did a couple of short test shots of a local area where people jump off cliff at a local water fall. I still have the 18-55mm kit lens. I'm after a shallow depth of field. Still playing around with it.
did you shoot STALKER and The Freelands with this camera? I am thinking of buying a 7D to shoot film, except it is pretty expensive in Eastern Europe, so I want to know if it is worth it...
@brettsk8 i gotta say I just picked up a 50mm 1.8 for my 7d, it's awesome for the low light but you seem to be able to get a lot more in focus than I can. My dof is soooo small. What kind of aperature/iso/shutter were you shooting at?
@TheGoodieRoom it is veryy weird I have to say... but I was hating it at first, now im just loving it man, Im still learning with it.. but at the moment I dont see going to video cameras for awhile..
Nice imagery. When I worked on TV shows they had three people on each camera, four cameras and a Director of Photography in addition to the Director. One of the three operators pushed the dolly into each position, one operated the camera and made the up and down and side to side movements and one was the Focus Puller on the lens. You are getting that kind of quality that used to cost many thousands, way more than a big house cost, just for the camera. Very nice.
I'm like you. I have the DVX100b, but I will upgrade to the T2i soon. How's the difference with the feel of switching from a prosumer to filming with a DSLR?
@zombifiedmaster oh man I love it dude!! my only big issue is storage, but I friggin love the images I get out of it.. btw, are you still doing a contest video?! I would love to see your style as a freelands film.

There's a very noticeable lag/stutter when panning in some of the scenes - is that the camera, or just poor YT compression?
Also, how do you focus on something in the foreground, then immediately focus on something in the background without moving the camera??
siciliano29 1 year ago
I have the same questions. I am looking into buying that lens, but don't want the lag. Is that from the camera or the exporting?

the 50 mm is a great lens for Indoors and Close up and action shots with that F1.8
your problems must be the diffrence with Zoom lens and a Single focal
Actions shots like running with the 7D might be excellent !!
