  • I love it. The NHL is about winning games, and if the trap is what is going to win games for the lightning, or for any team go for it. This, to me, shows that the flyers weren't ready for this defense. Just because the lightning weren't pressuring them doesn't mean that the flyers shouldn't attack. They didn't attack because they didn't have a plan on how to get past that defense which means that the lightning did their job.

  • @LaNgEr1441 actually their plan was this and to lure them out of the trap.

  • @elshamus LOL. To afraid to forecheck? This game showed the NHL that the 1-3-1 is a "pussy" tatic.

  • Best. Counter. Ever. I HATE the 1-3-1! What we really told the Lightning here was, "We don't have to put up with that. If one of us is going to win this game, we're going to win because we played good, solid hockey." That's the way to win. GO FLYERS!

  • i don't understand the rules of hockey that well so can someone explain to me why this stance brought the game to a stand still?

  • @ashc1153 its a trap that forces the offence to dump the puck into the zone rather than rush towards the net. therefore giving the team who has deployed this stance offencive control of the puck

  • @ashc1153 A more thorough explanation would be: The lightning are doing a neutral zone trap or 1-3-1. You can see that they put one player on their blue line, another on the opposing teams blue line, and the remaining 3 players on the red line. The problem that the Flyers are pointing out by not moving is that the Lightning aren't forechecking (putting pressure on the puck) and therefore giving the Flyers no reason to move the puck themselves - unfair advantage for the Lightning

  • That's the best trolling in hockey.

  • this video is hilarious for 3 reasons:

    1) Flyers are the ones holding the puck yet Lightning gets blamed

    2) Flyers tried the same thing tonight with the Lightning and got obliterated again.

    3) the Flyers have now gotten beaten twice by the Lightning this season. I just find this hilarious because the Flyers are a bunch of crybabies.

  • @ggbqc the reason why it was noteeorthy is because in hockey rarely is there a play so uneventful as this one.

  • I think that other teams should try to come up with a counter strategy instead of refusing to play, what are they thinking, that NHL will put a ban on a certain defense strategy, I hope not!

  • Can't believe I hadn't seen this until today... greatness.

  • Play the friggin' puck!

  • @stohockeylax lol ima sharks fan bro

  • Incredible. The Penguins should take notes, they can't play against a trap.

  • some pussies that flyers team is

  • @itsjdon408 shut your mouth you filthy ignorant tampa loving human piece of garbage

  • @itsjdon408 more like some geniuses

  • Those guys on the ice need a shift change to catch their breaths after that one.

  • The sad thing is hockey fans put this in the youtube most watched section meaning that this was an interesting event to hockey fans. Shows how bad HOCKEY is when their fans find shit like this note worthy.

  • @ggqbc okay gggbc... this is something that hasn't happened in a long time its still way more interesting then Baseball, Soccer, and Basketball

  • @ggqbc It's only noteworthy because it never happens. Hockey's still the greatest sport on earth.

  • @ggqbc It's interesting because it's rare that an NHL team flatly refuses to play the puck up the ice against a certain defense.

  • I can't believe NHL teams can't beat the 1-3-1. I mean, it's obvious you need to do the Flying V!

  • Hockey was exciting in the 70s, 80s and early 90s, all this sitting back is nonsense, you lose out on all the skill, we don't get to see much speed and excitement. Get rid of 10 teams and go with 20 that way the talent level will be very high on each team and they won't play this stuff system. The last time Tampa won the cup they didn't trap.

  • I was getting excited there..thought a flying V was gunna start!

  • @ENTERRATURE20 wow you fag, its pathetic that people take religion seriously -_-

  • Bunch of cry baby's, What do you expect from the flyers any way!!!! Goones!

  • still more entertaining then baseball

  • Loved it!

  • IT'S A TRAP!!!

  • @cosmopotking it iss a asshole like america is

  • I played hockey when I was young, and stopped watching hockey about 10 years ago. But pls, for the love of God, can someone explain to me what the whistle was for at the end? Was there something in the rule book that allowed the referee to blow the whistle?

  • @hofifut the puck is technically frozen i guess.

  • @hofifut there is actually a rule that obligates the player to move the puck.

  • @sToFALARDEAU

Are you speculating, or is there acutally a clause in the rule book? I'm not asking you to state the subsection etc., but frankly, I've never heard of such a thing. You would think that if there was such a rule, that the announcers would have stated as such. If in fact there isn't such a rule, you can bet the competition committee would discuss this during the off -season.

  • @hofifut I am not really sure this really exist but I read that on a Tv sport channel website on a article that was talking about this play. And the commentators didn't mentionned it because this is not a really know rule. Sorry for my bad english

  • Let's make the rink half size

  • @0123kid two nets in the middle of the ice back to back. lets call it Flankers-schvad

  • @Crymson1 Good wording but i'm not american. I would never want to be a President anyways, And i've never criticized the head of my country.

  • lebron travelled.

  • The bolts were like "... WTF?"

  • @tposlusny I'd like to see you get in the NHL

  • @Zerg721 By your vein, we shouldn't ever criticize our heads of state. After all, it's unlikely that any one of us would ever get to be president.

  • Bolts Suck

  • tampa was smart 1-3-1 is smart its philly that are pussy and it cost philly the game

  • They were just talking about on HNIC. Ron McLean is right, Trap Kings New Jersey Devils have won three Stanley Cups yet can't sell out games. The trap is so effective it's boring for the game. That said, Philly needed to make a point and that's boring too. I've never seen this before but if it goes to a face off what's preventing other teams from doing it again. I agree they will have to force a Delay of Game penalty to keep the defending team forechecking. Or maybe someone needs to invent a ne

  • Messi was offside.

  • Why are people freaking out? I've never seen it before, it..... was.... something.

  • LEBRON JAMES TRAVELLED

  • poorbeEar has alot to share eh

  • Smart.

  • Brutal.

  • Whoa thought this was a video game

  • Comment removed

  • clearly u stupid fucks dont know why they did that i philly but i thout it was brillyent lol

  • The referees should have whistled a Delay Of Game Penalty against the spineless Flyers and their coaches for not advancing the puck! Ice Hockey is a game of action and motion; this tactic is neither. Would the Flyers have pulled this stunt at their own rink in front of their fans? So send the Flyer goons down to the minors and get some skaters and puck handlers of your own. Flyer coaches start earning your money by figuring out a way to break the trap, instead walking off the set in protest.

  • @masteroftheeouse first off you know nothing about hockey. as a defender i would wait until the forechecker comes to me, then id move the puck. if the lightning are to "spineless" to come forecheck why should the flyers move the puck at all? and they dont need a way to figure out how to break the trap because clearly they did break it by not moving the puck down the ice. maybe the tampa coach should find a way to make his trap not as useless

  • @masteroftheeouse lol thats such an idiotic comment. nowhere in the rules does it say you are required to advance the puck. There is no way to "break" the trap like you said, hence why they're using it. Im sure they would of done it at their own rink. And been cheered by their fans for it. It has nothing to do with the location, or the players on their team. Go watch the NJ devils stanley cup winning teams. They use the same style, its incredibly difficult to play against. Not phillys fault.

  • @masteroftheeouse

You know nothing of hockey. How is this delay of the game? The refs shouldn't even have whistled...

  • @EzPzLemnSqueezy Rioting????? This isn't Vancouver

  • everyone's being such loose butthole

  • Stop complaining, the Flyers put their asses on the line every night so people can enjoy seeing them play hockey. I'm pretty sure it's more disappointing seeing them lose 10-0 than just a 30-second delay. To add to this, the game was only 30 seconds in, its not like Tampa Bay was down a goal with a minute left and they were stalling it...... And if you don't like this method, then go watch football, there's plenty of delays that cause the game to slow down, not hating on football, just saying.

  • @OhhFrikshunz Doesn't make any sense... If you didn't like this method then why would you go watch a sport that this happense all the time... And this was in Tampa. So no, I think the fans would rather have the flyers lose 10-0 than have a 30 second delay from them.

  • @TheKevsto Haha i just realized this in Tampa. All I'm saying is Tampa fans are being hypocritical and booing the Flyers, all they're doing is using their brains and not falling for the trap. But then Flyers fans are crying saying "Unacceptable to be stalling the game." I'm just kinda trying to tell people to just watch the game.

  • i dont know why evryone cares so much about this ahahahah? u guys need to chill seriously if it was for like 5 minutes then id be a bit mad but it wasntr even for that long..

  • I actually love how the Flyers responded to this BS stategy. Those are the kind of tactics that are actually killing this game and needs to be put in front page to get people to react. Althought i agree with people that when you have the puck, it's your turn to attack or score. Pretty hard to score if you don't get out of your zone. We have an ultimatum here and I guess that's why so many people are talking about it.

  • I fucking love these comments from Poohbear1647 if u dont like it dont watch it :) easy is ABC's ( if u know ur ABC's that is)

  • Braydon Coburn: come at me bro

  • Fuck Tampa with their gay tactics

  • To all you rookies just now learning about hockey, the rules are simple. When you have the puck, it's your turn to attack. Pretty hard to attack without it. If you refuse to attack with the puck, you are wimps who have no business on the ice. "We won't play unless you chase us" doesn't work in hockey, only in grade school.

  • @ashatola maybe the other team should try and play the puck

  • good psychout if anything

  • NHL '08... LOL

  • Even the bugler wanted Tampa Bay to charge them.

  • Why is this video titled "Flyers counter trap" they didn't counter anything. They held the puck in their zone and it resulted in a face off in their zone, which gives up their possession and gives Tampa an offensive zone face off. This favors Tampa... If they countered the trap they would be successfully gaining entry into the offensive zone which they did not.

  • @NickDags they countered the 1-3-1. the way the lighting plays the 1-3-1 they want the other team to try and move in because really unless flyers had ovechkin on their team the flyers could only dump the puck which results in lighting gaining possession. the flyers just decided to hold the puck to force st louis to forcheck instead which would break the 1-3-1 positioning. and they did again later, st louis actually went in to forcheck and it indeed broke the positioning

  • Tickets are only about 10 bucks in Tampa anyway...

  • you guys are taking it all wrong. philly did this to mock tampa bay's 1-3-1 strategy. it's supposed to be a joke.

  • About time the damned trap teams were exposed.....Hate Philly but glad they showed up this joke of a system in the Bolts own house.......

  • Why are so many people overreacting? It was 30 seconds.

  • @GuitarPuppet59 I had to watch ten years of this nonsense, we had a lock out and rule changes to bring excitement back to hockey, this shit is boring. 15 teams sit back and trap all game long.

  • I can't believe you're all getting butthurt and asking for refunds because they skated around for 30 seconds and didn't do shit...I'm surprised you aren't all rioting because coaches can call timeouts. "HURR I PAID GOOD MONEY FOR THIS WHY IS MY TINY ATTENTION SPAN NOT BEING CATERED TO?" There's another 59 minutes and 30 seconds of hockey that WASN'T a trap like this that you could be enjoying.

  • @EzPzLemnSqueezy dumass.....the clocks stop when timeouts are called fucknugget....ure just saying that cause you dint buy 250dollar tickets to watch these fuckign idiots skate on ice....if i wanted to watch people skate on ice i wudve gone to my rec center

  • @vendettakobe its 30 seconds take a chill pill

  • @TheTicklishMidget next time watch the game? the whole game was played retardly.....they stalled twice not once....

  • @vendettakobe i did watch the whole game, and it wasnt played stupidly

  • @vendettakobe...i never said clocks don't stop on timeouts...

  • @vendettakobe 250 dollars? where the fuck are you sitting? on the bench?

  • don't play the gay ass trap and this will never happen. Flyers win on this one

  • everyone needs to settle down, philadelphia should've done something about it instead of sitting there like idiots. Poor coaching by Philadelphia, Laviolette should've known how to counter this properly instead of embarrassing his team

  • guys are you all retarded. It was at Tampa. the fans don't care whether they win by 2-1 or 6-5 as long as they win. the fans were booing the flyers anyway. This is just the flyers way of saying there coach is too stupid to figure out how to beat it. Get a new coach! Winning is more important than goal scoring. Oh yea and the bolts are 7th in the LEAGUE in goals per game at 3.00. Quit your whining

  • Congratulations, the NHL is as scummy as the NBA. It was criminal the way you ripped off the fans. You owe them an appology and a refund. Don't forget to refund their gas money, parking fees, and baby sitter money. Is this the kind of player you wanted to be when you where playing pond hockey when you where 10 years old? How could you? I'm not just disappinted, I am actually hurt that the NHL is so out of contact with its fans (that scrape up $ for a hockey ticket to see this product). B S

  • @poohbear1647 if these people are "scraping" together money just to go to a hockey game, they probably shouldn't be going, all I see is someone with nothing better to do making a big deal out of nothing... boo hoo, boo hoo, wah wah, cry some more for me,

  • @originalstatus13 Short sighted. If you stop being ignorant for one second, you might see the trap as a real option for teams with shallow benches, and shallow attendance. Just keep your crying, I know several cities that will buy your team , just ask Atlanta fans. Ticket purchases at "Trap teams" is crazy low, I don't expect you to know this because your too busy crying.

  • @poohbear1647 how am i crying, get your head checked

  • @poohbear1647 do you really think the fans at the game want a refund for the first 30 seconds of a hockey game. besides not like what you said makes any sense, i mean if thats your argument it looks like you dont know anything about hockey. (PS i'm a penguins fan so i dont even like philly)

  • @mekillyou13 It wasn't just the first 30 seconds of the game? Did you watch it all the way? Don't feel bad, apparently your not the only one. If the rest of the people don't see this as a slippery sloap, then they are just blinding by being a "hommy". "Besides not like what you said makes sense"- did you read your own comment- learn to make a sentence before you try to insult anyone. This could be the new direction that the NHL is going, and it sucks.

  • @poohbear1647 it's a youtube comment. you dont need perfect sentences here dumbass. besides did you even read the title of the video. Flyers Counter Lightning's Trap. its a counter to a stragey and your stupid if you think that a team making fun of the other teams forecheck formation is the new direction of of the NHL.

  • @poohbear1647 your probably just an upset tampa bay fan because they didn't fall into the trap. boohoo stfu

  • @RidnDirtyTV Actually, they did fall into the trap and lost the game 2-1. If you won't skate when you have the puck, when are you going to skate?

  • @RidnDirtyTV nope, not a tampa or Philly fan, I just like hockey. I had respect for both teams before this. It seems like your the only cry baby here. My team is top of the division and made a bitch of both of these teams already.

  • @poohbear1647 I like how you try to make yourself all high and mighty with your mentioning of your team. if you like hockey, then shut up and watch the game. don't complain about the rules if you like hockey. don't say you like hockey if theirs something about it you don't like( wanting to ban the 1-3-1 in case your forgot)

    Trollololllolololololololol

  • @poohbear1647 calm down you little bitch. Its not like this happens every game and its not like the NHL planned to have this happen. The reason its getting so much attention is because its so out of order. So fuck you cunt rag.

  • @swisscheeseMAFIA Letting it happen is just as bad as planning it, and your the bravest anonomous writter ever, is this what you do when your not talking smack on xbox live? You, if your even a fan, should be upset at this issue, stuff like this could kill the sport, If you can't see that, then you haven't been on this earth very long.

  • @poohbear1647 Holy shit kid do you want me to call the wambulance? Youre a fucking idiot end of story. The fact you think their needs to be a "written apology" and "refund" for this shows how stupid you really are. And besides what the fuck do you mean by the NHL "let this happen". Was the NHL supposed to come up with even more stupid rules to change hockey? was Bettman himself supposed to fly down to tampa ASAP and take a smelly shit on the ice forcing the players to skate away from it?

  • @poohbear1647 just stop buying tickets then! Go take a walk, go cycling, spend time with your kids, do something that will actually help rather than paying to see millionnaires on ice and whining!

  • @mattsnow81 That is the ultimate way to handle this, don't buy tickets. The NHL is still trying to get its fans back from 2005, if a team looses attendance and has to move, the chances of ever getting back a team is nill. It's not whining if your trying to save a sport you like, then again, your probably Canadian and don't have free speech. . Keep defending the millionaires that would rather piss on you than play thier sport. Just keep enabling them and watch what happen.

  • @poohbear1647 i understand ur point of view but ive always played to win or for my own amusement never for whos watching... the fan goes to a game knowing full well that it could be a disapointment yes in this perticular caseits not the same as their team loosing but i think ur a litle extreme in your argument life has its up & downs and sometimes you just have to deal with it

  • Fans paid A LOT of money for those tickets. Fans aren't rich, for some people that was the only game they could afford for the whole year. I can only afford 1 game a year, I am so glad that wasn't the game I'm going to. Shame on the coaches and shame on the NHL for letting this happen, you have lost your connection with the working man. Those players will cash paychecks of $60,000 and up for that performance, it takes some of us a few years to make that, and if I stood there like they did....

  • @poohbear1647 tampa tickets are ten bucks! go all the time.

  • @poohbear1647 Not only a lot of money, but in crowded places like Montreal, you got to be very lucky just to be able to purchase one!

  • @poohbear1647 the truth is that they dont play the game to entertain the fans, they play to win and if they have to depend on tactics like this then so be it. They dont play for the fans pleasure

  • @poohbear1647 this was just a minute of the game, talk about over-react much, if you don't like, don't watch nhl, simple as that, you people complaining are actually more annoying than what happened

  • @poohbear1647 why dont you go to college or university, get an education and actually make some money. I don't see how this is bad. Philly is playing smart hockey. If tampa won't challenge why take a chance on losing the puck. So to everyone who has ever and will ever say shit about how Philly played i say a big FUCK OFF! (P.S. im not even a philly fan)

  • @poohbear1647 quit crying, your not playing the game so you wouldn't know what its like. they got paid $60,000 because they made a smart decision and didn't want to chance the turnover. they held the puck for a minute quit your fucking bitching its 1 minute. that's just enough time to scarf down the pretzel your fat ass bought before the game started. quit being such a suck its part of the game deal with it. :)

  • @poohbear1647 so what you are saying is that everyone that game should be refunded their tickets because the flyers used a really fucking brilliant counter strategy on the lightning for less than 5 minutes of a minimum 60 minute game? you are the dumbest person the world

  • @poohbear1647 STFU. Fans witnessed something they've never seen before. And on top of that, they made a statement about the trap. If you can't see that through your tears, then go watch baseball.

  • @poohbear1647 i agree with you, but i dont think it was the Flyers fault for trying not to lose the game.

  • @bandoverlife i don't think so, because when they stalled the play and it stopped. they had i faceoff in their zone. Thats not good at all. Its way better to go in the trap then have a faceoff in your zone

  • @Habs4life1212 later on in the game they figured out that they could just skate around in their zone so that they wouldn't get a faceoff, which forced the lightning to forecheck and break position

  • @bandoverlife I didnt watch the game, but if its the case, then we have a problem. But tell me this, how can you regulate this trap. You can't for ce a player to forcheck, You can't obligate a player in not be in a certain place....

  • @Habs4life1212 okay then, be technical. it didn't force them too, but they eventually did. happy now?

  • @poohbear1647 30seconds..rly bro ?

  • @poohbear1647 LOL U FUCKING JEW YOU'RE ARGUING FOR 30 SECONDS? CMON MAN GROW SOME BALLS

  • @poohbear1647 what a ridiculous comment. herp derp i paid money. what you dont realize is that this are these guys JOBS. It has nothing to do with the fans, the team is just smart enough to jump into the trap like that. The nhl and teams have nothing to apologize for. You've obviously never watched the NJ Devils Stanley cup teams because the neutral zone trap is ALL they did.

  • Everyone needs to stop cracking on the Flyers I don't like them but hate the trap. NHL players on twitter supported what the Flyers did. You like me might hate Philly but the people that play the game hate what Tampa is doing, would you really pay $50 to see that on a nightly basis #gohabsgo

  • Is it just me, or is anybody else NOT surprised that the flyers have no class whatsoever. Typical Philly

  • @theskh22 I applaud philly for doing this. Tampa is playing the most boring type of defense ever created in hockey. They have a lot of skill in there team just this doesnt show case it. The trap needs to be taken out of hockey all together. ITS BORING.... Thats the only way tampa made it past Pittsburgh. They are fuckin shit

  • Flyers FAIL

  • Ugh. Leave it to the Philadelphia CRYers to pull this shit. Are you kidding me? I hate whiners. It's a trap. Not quicksand. MOVE THE PUCK, stupid. If only TB could pull it off as well as the Devils did. Well, that is until the whiners started about the speed of the game. Wah f***ckin wah. It's an effective system. It works. Find a way to beat it. It IS possible. Let's put some of those high salary players the Philly CRYers have to good use. -P

  • @peteygnyc Only a moron team sits back and doesn't forecheck, The Flyers did this to show how fucking lame Tampa Bay is to watch. I hope the NHL folds the Tampa team and at least 5 others.

  • I like what Philly did just to emphasize the fact that if Tampa wants to play that way, then Philly can play just as boring hockey. There is a rule that prevents 60 minutes of "standing around" on the ice.

  • so hardcoreee...

  • Why should the ref call for a faceoff in the Flyer's zone? Don't they have the right to play the game just as the Lightning? The Flyers are simply countering what the Lighning are doing! I don't see why they should be punished for it.

  • @bareknuckles2u The referees were employing Rule 72.1 of the National Hockey League official rule book, designed "to enforce continuous action and both referees and linesmen should interpret and apply the rule to produce this result."

  • @metsfane Thanks for the info, buddy. So does that mean the Flyers could have just passed it back and forth between defencemen. Would that be considered continuous motion? If you know that would be great.

  • Why does he just sit there O_o

  • @diablo333911 the flyers are exposing Tampa's extremely boring style of play, the neutral trap. As you see no tampa players are forchecking(going after the puck). so the flyers wait it out, if anything this made Tampa look horrible.

  • I say to prevent this, have a shot clock. you have 30 seconds to get up ice and take a shot. If you don't take a shot in time the face-off is at center ice.

  • @TacoSuperNinja I dont know. It works for box lacrosse, but for pro hockey? I dont think it could work especially on powerplays. It would also limit potential goal scoring chances, as players are pressured to shoot. Good idea though.

  • this should be a delay of game penalty on phili

  • This has nothing to do with cod so stfu bitches

  • Anyways like my comment if u think

That this is a good play or bad

  • Wow...so

Many complainers and COD addicts, wtf is wrong wit u people 1-3-1 is a hockey stragety

    PS tampa sucks

  • i'm just curious on what grounds are the refs calling the faceoff?

  • There playing hockey like kids play COD, camping... gayest way to try and win.

  • This is a play that wins hockey games. Bottom line.

  • @whosawesome100 Exactly! Despite the very talented players Tampa Bay has ( St-Louis, Stamkos, Lecavalier ), Boucher knows they lack depth. He simply has to use this system if he wants to win. For those who complain that this is killing the game, gimme a break! In the end it always comes back to the team who's handling the puck. THEY have to come up with something, they have to move the puck and create an offensive play. Staying there proves that they CAN'T come up with anything to counter this.

  • I see no problem with that, if you, as the defending team in your own zone don't want to attack, & the other team doesn't want to come after you, hell, sit out there all night if you want, but it will be 0-0. That is why a win should be 3 points & a tie 1 point, with a shootout win 2 points (3 point system via olympics, every game worth 3 points always, reg win 3 points, ot/so win 2 points, ot/so loss 1 points, 3 points total always). This wouldn't happen if a win was 3 points to a 1 point tie.

  • @BoverElectric I like that idea. Wasnt that Don Cherrys ?

  • or use the olympic rink size which would also cut down on injuries

  • how bout a delay if game penalty ?

  • @MegaSpazztic its not delaying the game, the puck is still in play, Tampa just didn't forecheck

  • @gregonater1234 No rule that u need to forecheck, if they dont wanna rush the puck outa there zone, thats there choice. Tampa is the best there is

  • @koolbeanzman ???what are you talking about...someone said it should have been delay of game, and i said it shouldn't have because the puck was in play

  • they should just make a rule that once there are no more players from the other team in your zone then you have idk maybe 10-15 seconds to move the puck out of your zone or you get a faceoff in your end.

  • Apparently Philadelphia can't skate very fast, pass well, or fore-check. Everyone knows that you can throw a long pass to the red line and dump it in, your forward speed will be faster than the defensive teams speed. The Broad Street Bullies seem to have lost the bullying aspect of their game. I'm ashamed that Wayne Simmonds plays for them.

  • I used to love hockey with a passion, now it's slightly faster than golf, would much rather watch paint dry now.. no wonder americans hate hockey ..

  • counter? that was no counter.

  • It is up to the team who has the puck to advance the play.

The ' trap" can be beat if you use speed. The great Edmonton Oilers of the 80's ( with Wayne Gretzky ) proved this.

The flyers just showed how little creativity they had by not trying to beat Tampa's defensive system.

What are the Flyeres going to do if they make the playoffs and face Tampa? Give up? Will they even lace up the skates and meet them on the ice?
