Not to be cynical or anything...but it is so nice to see some of Old America preserved, and not turned into a subdivision by greedy development companies. Here in California...a lot of Wilderness territory is now gone, and has been replaced with cul de sacs and shopping centers.
I appreciate seeing this. Sadly it's been about 10 years since I made it there and it looks like they've upgraded several things including the signs. I always recommendj families who visit take along a blanket and a copy of the book, to see how well the location matches Laura's description.
The house that caught fire was the home that Laura and her husband Almanzo lived in when they were newly married, in South Dakota. In the tv series, Laura and Almanzo never left Walnut Grove, Minnesota; in real life and in the books, Laura and Almanzo didn't even meet until after the Ingalls family left Walnut Grove to move to De Smet, Dakota Territory.
That was really nice. I like the well that Pa dug...That is very cool. In a book, Mr. Boast (I think) fell down the well and Pa try help him....Ma turn the wheel to up and Pa took him. He is fine when got out of the well.
Mr. Scott was the character in the book who went down into the well while they were digging it without first sending down the candle to be sure the air was safe. Mr. Boast is a character in the later books of the series.
No I am sorry, but it was Mr. Edwards that went down in that well without the candle going first.
Mr. Scott was the neighbor that they had when they lived in Kansas. They stayed in the Scott's home while the Indians were getting ready to be pushed out of that territory.
The television show and the real life of Laura Ingalls Wilder are very different. This museum is on the location of where Laura's family actually lived in real life during the events of her book, Little House on the Prairie, in Kansas. The show is very fictional and takes place primarily in Walnut Grove, Minnesota (a later home of the Ingalls family). The premiere movie is based on the book Little House on the Prairie and takes place in Kansas though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was the Verdigris (Verdegree) River to bring Christmas gifts to the Ingalls girls. It was in Kansas though.

@aggirlgrace tv series was set in Walnut grove, not here in Kanas. That said, yes I know what you mean about the size lol

1:10 Wouldn't the Walnut Creek be in Walnut Grove, MN? Or does Kansas have a Walnut Creek also, it is possible.
ChumpyShorts 1 year ago
@ChumpyShorts No, as confusing as it sounds, Walnut Creek is in Kansas, and Plum Creek was in Walnut Grove, MN. :)

here's a question....where is the little house used in LHOTP show at now? cuz they didn't blow that up in the finale...
Parkette1 2 years ago
One of the actors in the show took the house apart (with permission), and the pieces are stored in his barn.

@BeanIrene No, it's Mr. Scott. He lived down the road, and they traded helping each other dig the wells. I'm re-reading the book right now.

So then if that house is a "replica" then it's not the real thing? what happened to the original house?
KarenFan4Ever 3 years ago
Loooong since gone, I'm sure -- they lived there in 1869-70 so it would be a VERY old cabin...
liwfrontiergirl 3 years ago
You maybe must to watch the final episode to know what happens to ALL the house, except the church...
