@Gyphia You just repeated the same thing I called into question. Doooooesn't really help. Anyways, if anything that is a reason to watch. According to John Lennon’s last personal assistant John Seaman (in the new documentary “Beatles Stories”), Lennon was a fan of Ronald Reagan. I just don't get why people support Democrats. Even the Beatles did not think Democrats were cool.

I have the same birthday as John Lennon. When I found out who he was, I was little, now I know to be thankful and take pride in this, and most music now sucks ass.
i first heard this song while watching the Beatles Cartoon's xD i loved it after hearing it on there :D George was [for all you Bedtime Stories fans!] underdemeciated by a lot of people! he was just as great a writer as Paul and John :)
@histre101 oh sorry didn't realize that his version eliminates the solo....god forbid Paul should get any mention on lead, even if George liked it as well.
just wanted to say this is one of my favorite beatles tracks even tho its only short.. listen to it again when you feel "the pinch" and it makes a lot of sense :)
lets be honest here Paul Weller and his song 'start' sounds just like the main riff in this song however, does it really matter that he stole it because Paul is just pure awesome and so are the Beatles. So two awesome people/bands taking ideas from each other can't be a bad thing can it?
1) Sigh... As I stated, musicologists acknowledge Beck as the first guitarist to play East Indian style lead guitar in rock. Simply listen to songs like Shapes of Things, Heart Full of Soul, & Over Under Sideways Down. They even had East Indian musicians on an earlier take of Heart Full of Soul, but decided to go with just the guitar emulating the style. This is before Harrison started playing sitar. Many guitarists were influenced by Beck, including George, Paul, & Hendrix...
@Smudgefizz The guitar solo was influenced by George Harrison interest in Indian music. Paul admits to it. The guitar solo here is more closer in tone to Jimi Hendrix than it is Jeff Beck. This was at least 6 months before Hendrix recorded anything from his first album. I never said that Jeff Beck wasn't the first to played EAST INDIAN STYLE GUITAR RIFFS. I already knew that. But George Harrison was the first to actually employ and play Indian instruments on rock records.
2) ...As for the “Hendrix” chord in “Taxman”, yes, it was used, obviously before Hendrix appeared on the scene, but the point is Hendrix POPULARIZED that dominant 7 #9 chord in guitar-playing by using it a LOT, unlike the Beatles. And the chord itself had been around since the 1940’s, way before the Beatles & Hendrix, in jazz as a chord for guitar & piano, & notably by guitarist Bill Dogget in his 1958 R&B hit “ Hold It”. In fact, musicians began referring to it as the "Hold It" chord...
Again the Beatles employed the 7#9 chord is employed in a distorted, staccato slashing guitar riff. After "Taxman" this chord became popular in many rock and pop songs of all things in punk rock.
Again I never said the Beatles invented the chord anyhow they had been using the chord was early as "You Can't Do That". It's how the Beatles used it a new innovative way that it matters.
3) ...There’s no need to argue. This isn’t a clash of egos here, it’s merely me assuming that some music fans here might appreciate these tidbits of information, gleaned from me having being around 52 years, having read extensively on the subject, & having played the guitar for 39 years, professionally for a large part of that. But if it makes you feel better, you go ahead & believe what you want to believe
Well, if so, that makes Paul not only the best bass player and drummer in the band, but guitarist too. Wouldn't surprise me frankly. (When asked if Ringo was the best drummer ever, John replied "He isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles" and he wasn't talking about himself. Paul really is amazing)
Unknown fact. The lead guitar playing is none other than........... Paul. George had trouble playing it so Martin told him to let Paul have a go. He did this solo in 2 takes.
