Could you explain me why this tour took you guys downhill on a road when you guys had a beautiful mountain trail to ride? I'm planning a trip to this mountain next summer and I'm looking for info on tours? Any info is appreciated.
The area is tightly regulated and you can't ride a bike on the trails, they are reserved for hikers only. In fact, you cannot ride on your own either up or down, only with a licensed tour guide. It's mostly a safety issue.
Hey Dan, actually that's not entirely true. You CAN ride down Barr Trail on a bike. It is not something however we are able to do tours on. You are correct about the fact that the road is tightly regulated though. You have to be with a tour company in order to ride down the Pikes Peak Hwy.
You can ride down Barr Trail from the top of Pikes Peak, however it is a technical advanced trial ride. We are not able to offer bike tours on that route. The focus of our tour is more of a sightseeing experience rather than a hardcore trail ride. It's an amazing way to experience the mountain and all ability levels are able to do it!
Looks like fun - that's a time where you'd want a stable frame and good disc brakes.
