I rarely buy games for the full price on Steam, but in this case I just had to. There are too few good space-action games anyway, and this ist just the perfect mix of Freelancer and Starfox 64 :D
I bought this game awhile back and had some fun playing it. I think i'll return to this game later this year, but I have an exploration question:
Are there no boundaries when exploring space? I always jumped through the gates, going from sector to sector, but is it possible to simply fly beyond the borders of the map and find new stuff like that?
This is one of my favorite games ever made. The ship customization is a dream come true and the planetary transitions are a cool touch that should now be standard in this genre. If there's a sequel, I hope you can build and fly bigger ships, like transports and battlecruisers.
for those who have troubles with the physics with this game, know that space is real and that physics of this game is the only game i have encountered that actually use real space physics, my second point is that u have two setting in your ship in space, i.d.s and inertial which means that if u travel at a certain velocity you will remain in that velocity unless a force is applied to ur ship , to toggle ids and inertial press space bar!
In typical form, i have a thought: can you emagine if this game gave you the ability to land or dock and get out of your ship and run about the place?! Or drive a land vehicle?! Or run a shop!! Or if it were MP (or is it already MP?)!!!???
I'm a huge fan of Freelancer so I really had to get this and try it out. I love that it is so free and that you can enter the atmosphere of planets :) Still trying it out and trying to get better at fighting.
One thing that I feel could be updated is the velocity physics. Since it is zero-g in space it should be easier to more rapidly change direction using the thruster/booster when you are not accelerating but is kind of sluggish atm. I still enjoy it though!
Contemplating getting this on Steam, saw it was just added.
Is the co-op drop in and can you co-op all the missions? (Real co-op)
Or is it a separate co-op mode with just a few things to do (Bah humbug co-op)
There really hasn't been anything like Freelancer, since Freelancer, and this looks like it just might be what we've all been waiting for! The seamless space to planet surface traveling looks so awesome :D
I was wondering when I'm going to stumble upon game much like Freelancer.... but this... this is like bigger, better, stronger and meaner brother of Freelancer. Can't wait to play it....
@orlasplit It was released last September and is continually being updated with new features and options. Visit the link in the description for details.
Do the Evochron series support all flightsticks? I downloaded the demo, and it seemed to have trouble configuring to the Saitek x52 pro. I didn't even attempt to try the rudder pedals since it seems very few games support them.
@Keihryon Yes, it supports the X52, actually designed with it in mind as my development system uses an X52. But you'll need to follow the instructions on mapping the controls (axis and buttons). The game also supports the rudder pedals, including any other gaming devices up to 10 simultaneously. Use the arrow keys at the top of the Configure Controls menu to switch devices while mapping controls.
These games look amazing, especially for the tiny file size! I was always looking for open-ended space trading/combat games like Freelancer, so I don't know how I missed this series.
@Uruluke You can find the link to download my score to the game via my "Evochron Mercenary Overture" video which is most likely featured on the right. Thanks, and enjoy! The game itself is pretty damn astounding for sure.
@realdarkflamesupreme Yes and yes. There's a free demo you can try to test out the control systems available. You can fly with a dedicated keyboard mode, three different mouse modes (pointer and direction), gamepad or up to 10 simultaneous control devices.
one thing you guys need to put is violent atmospheric insertions. they need you ship to shake and like fire on the out side of the spacecraft when you go into the atmosphere. it would ramp the realism and immersion 10x. but that is me thumbs up if you agree
Have you played the game? What you describe is already in the game. You can enter a planet nice and slow with no burning, or rapidly and have a stream of fire blaze from your ships as it shakes and rattles from the turbulence. There's also a variety of weather effects, including lightning, rain, snow, heavy winds, etc. Also, try entering a gas giant some time :-)
@SFSW sorry i guess i have never gone fast into an atmosphere i have always gone slow sorry you can delete mine stupid me and i want this game it looks awesome i played evochron legends it was a very fun game
@combly7 - I'll delete it if you want me to, but you bring up an important point. If players think the feature is lacking, I'd like to inform them that it is there. Others may have the same impression you did.
@Laihoistheman - You can hire a fleet (single player) or form one with other players (multiplayer). You can also place new stations to expand the game's populated universe.
I am in awe of how far this series has come, and where it continues to go. Having bought both Renegades and Legends, I can certainly see myself buying this.
Looks fekkin FANTASTIC. I just started Legends a week or so ago, and I am HOOKED. This next product is a sure buy. Great job in DB, and Thank You for bringing back the Elite/ I-War/ X-Wing / Wing Commander type space sim!!
GIVE THIS GAME SOME LOVE!
