Τραγούδι «μαύρο», άλυτο μυστήριο, γραμμένο κατευθείαν για τον… 23ο αιώνα. Κυκλοφορεί η υποψία πως ούτε οι δημιουργοί του έχουν συνειδητοποιήσει ακόμη επακριβώς τι έγραψαν. Τους βγήκε σε μια εποχή μεγάλης τόλμης για το τραγούδι μας (αρχές της δεκαετίας του ’70, με το πνεύμα του ’60 ακόμη ζωντανό), μόνο που σε αυτή την περίπτωση η τόλμη συνοδευόταν και από μεγάλη έμπνευση: Ένα τραγούδι-πουργατόριο

Το τραγούδι αυτό το έχουν κάνει διασκευή και οι Πράσσειν Άλογα στο τελευταίο cd τους. Με πιο ροκ ήχο αλλά εξίσου δυνατό. Το τιμούν το κομμάτι, δεν το καταστρέφουν

Haralambos Garganourakis was born in one of the most beautiful Cretan villages, Agios Thomas Monofatsiou in Heraklion. Carrying along a long musical tradition, Agios Thomas was the birthplace of some of the most famous lyrists as Giorgis Melabianos, Mihalis Katsarapidis and Giorgis Fragiadakis.

A restless spirit even from when he is born, Haralambos realizes by the time he is to finish school that he can not express his feelings of Crete without his lyre. His older brother, he too sharing a great love for the guitar, soon becomes aware of his talent. So by the age of twelve, he takes Haralambos to their uncle Giorgis Melambianos who - impressed by his talent - makes him a hand-made lyre.

Still a twelve year old with his own lyre, he starts playing and expressing his thoughts and feelings for Crete using three strings. His musical companions are a bunch of boys that play under the watchful eye of his uncle Melambianos and Mihalis Katsarapidis. And from this group of young boys surface four great lyrists and two or three great lute players that continue their village's long tradition and aid to the widespread of Cretan music in all sorts of places.

Haralambos is soon singled out from these ten, twenty, thirty, from all lyrists. This is due to the fact that apart from his talent and artistic expression, God gave him even more graces. So by the age of fourteen to seventeen, he manages to perform in all revels in villages from Malevizi, Monofatsi, Messara, Temenos, to Heraklion, Pediada and Vianos while his reputation soon reaches Hania and Lasithi.

y the time he is 18 years old, a big record company of those days discovers his talent and offers him the opportunity to record his first single titled "Eharisa sou ti kardia" .

After he finishes his national service, he returns to his village and in 1970 he decides to start working as a professional lyrists and singer. His first performances as a professional are in 'Erotokritos' -- the first music hall in Heraklion -- where he performs on a daily basis.

The audience's love for his art and his virile but at the same time sweet voice offers him a place among some of the greatest Cretan music artists such as Mountakis, Skordalos and Xsilouris that had all performed in 'Erotokritos'. He continues his performances at the music hall 'Aretousa' during the summer of 1972. However, one of most crucial moments of his career will come a year after, in the summer of 1973 when he meets the great Cretan composer Giannis Markopoulos.

Before going over and introducing himself, Markopoulos was sitting for hours watching this talented lyrist perform without anyone knowing who he was and what he was doing. He observed his movement, his expression and the way he embraced his audience. When he finally approached him and told him who he was, Haralambos immediately accepted to tie his future in music with Giannis Markopoulos' future.

Their collaboration leads to the production of a series of some of the most brilliant musical masterpieces of the last 30 to 50 years such as: "Thiteia", "Thessaliko Kiklo", "Oropedio", "Afieroma" and many more. At the same time, Haralambos' records a number of albums such as: "Kriti mou", "Prinorizes", "O na haro haro to", "Esperinoi", "Paizo to laouto mou", "Kritika Klasica 1", "Kritika Klasika2", "Mana Kriti", "Psiles korfes".

Every new song creates a sensation and thrills the audiences. Cretan music and the lyre is now loved and appreciated by all Greeks. From Evros to the borders with Albany, from the islands in the Aegean to Ionion, every middle-class Greek now believes and accepts this three-stringed instrument. He trusts to the lyre his feelings and Haralambos expresses everyone's thoughts. He evolves to the singer of the valor of our race.

His success, instead of altering his character, helps him become more mature; instead of pulling him away from the crowd, helps him become one with it. Each new success bonds him to a greater extend with the people, the middle-aged men and women, the scientists, the workers, the shepherds. Nowadays, Haralambos Garganourakis lives with his family in Heraklion and continues to work with the same unlimited passion for the Cretan music.
