JUST IN........Steelers RB Willie Parker has suffered a broken right fibula during tonight's game against the Rams; he will likely miss the rest of this season, the playoffs, and the Pro Bowl, therefore sending Fred Taylor to his first Pro Bowl if he decides.
If you look at the injuries they were muscle not bone injuries;pulled his groin completely off his leg. He should be a pro bowler but it is a popularity contest now. If you ask any starter in the NFL they would tell you that Fred is one of the best backs in the league right now even if he is over 30. Even O.J Simpson told him that a couple years ago. He hasnt missed a game in ages You dont get in the top 20 in all time rushing yards by being fragile.
Only reason people call him Fragile Freddie is because of Tom Coughlin putting him probable on the injury report even though he knew Fred was hurt the rest of the season. Now he deserves the nickname Steady Freddy, and he is class act, more then you will ever be apparently.
He's not fragile. Why don't YOU look it up? He's missed a grand total of 8 games in the last 6 years. He had what could have been a career-ending injury early on in his career, but he came back and he's fine now. It has nothing to do with fragile. When you get the flesh torn off your groin, you tell me how quickly you rebound.
8 games in the last 6 years, and when he plays all 16 games next year, it will become 8 games in the last 7 years.
He has never won a super bowl, he has allways had trouble with injuries and has never really played a full season,
he has never gone to the pro bowl,
never lead the leauge in any kind of statistic that really matters.
fred taylor has been average, and even though it may seem like im being an asshole, its true, hes a good runninback, but not a great one, and only great players get into the HOF.
his career average ypc is 5 yards a carry, hes got over 10000 rushing yards, hes been injured a lot, and still has over 1000 yards in almost every one of his seasons, hes a good blocker and jukes, spins, and trucks the shit out of everyone, like it or not hes going to the pro bowl, and the hall of fame
Fred Taylor has averaged 4.7 yards a carry over his entire career. hes rushed for a little over 10,000 yards over 10 seasons. hes averaged 84.2 yards a game, and he only has one season where he actually averaged over 100 yards a game.
the reason he has busted the 10,000 yard mark, is because hes lasted longer than the average NFL running back does. its not like he broke it because he had an outstanding performance.
What a crap comparison...he was hurt early in his career...nothing he can do about that. And put Fred in offense like what LT has been in, give him the same number of carries and not miss any games :rolls eyes: Fact is its an amazing accomplishment and stands on its own merit. The fact is he has beat the odds and had an outstanding career. If you want to knock him, you can say he has never been a great receiver out of the backfield.
50-PLUS RUSHES Barry Sanders (20) Jim Brown (15) LaDainian Tomlinson (14) Fred Taylor (13) Warrick Dunn (12) Robert Smith (12) Tiki Barber (12) 10-PLUS RUSHES Emmitt Smith (437) Barry Sanders (363) Curtis Martin (343) Marshall Faulk (332) Fred Taylor (311)
2nd best back? What? Fred Taylor used to be an elite NFL back, but now, he's getting old and Jones-Drew will soon replace his role. He was never a top 5 back in his career, so i don't agree with him being in the hall of fame.
Man, i went to this game but i lost the tickets and didnt find them until about 20 mins before game time and i live like 35 mins away so i missed this run...i pulled up right when the fireworks went off when Jones-Drew scored once again..
your completely right. what people dont know is that hes only missed 8 games out of the last 80. which is 5 seasons. hes the 2nd best back in the league behind lt
Wait, like, the NFL Hall of Fame? Calm down, homer. First, he's gotta be a top 10 back, and he's not putting up anywhere near top-10 numbers right now. Don't cheapen the HoF just to defend this guy.
Before you type anything else, do you watch the Jaguar games and do you realize that he was part of the third best rushing team in the league last year? If you can honestly answer yes to both of those, continue with your arguement. He's horribly underrated and people need to watch this man before they judge his performance.
You need to drop the 'Fragile" tag - he's been solid the last two seasons! He just needed someone to help carry the load. can't wait to see him and Jones-Drew both eclipse 1,000 yards this season.
M favorite running back at my favorite field.

Fred Taylor completed two full seasons in 2002 and 2003. He also played in 15 games in both 1998 and 2006, 14 in 2004 and 13 in 2000.
stantonlax22 4 years ago
and he would have gone to a pro bowl if he was in a larger market
stantonlax22 4 years ago
I dont see how this furthers the idea that he should make it to the HOF...
the guy has never been anything special, just average.
he is a good runningback, but not a great one.

"has never really played a full season"
Was a response to that statement

oh, well my bad
more power to you bro, hes still not going to the HOF

10k yard mark? Check
Passed Eddie George and Tiki Barber for all time rushing yards? Check
Still got a few years left in him? Check
Hall of Fame lock? Check
He's going to Canton whether you like it or not.

People Aren't even sure If Tiki will make it to the HOF....
And Tiki was better then Taylor.
sorry, but he isn't, wether you like it or not.

also...... most of the players who broke the 10,000 yard mark, broke it alot earlier in their careers.
take for example edgerrin james, he broke the 10,000 yard mark before taylor, and hasn't even been playing as long as taylor.

Edgerrin James tore his ACL in his third year, and has never been the same runningback since.
James has never been the same and still broke the mark before taylor.
props to taylor however for his first pro bowl appearence, he deffinetly earned it this year.
KGDABE 4 years ago
he reached that mark earlier on more carries. makes sense to me.
