2- This is magnifying the revelution of Imam Hussain (Peace be upon him) and doing this by any means is permissable.

3-It is a state of expression, just like crying or doing latom. tatbir isint harmful at all, yet if its overdone it is, likewise with crying, beating chest..etc

4-People think that it gives a negative image of shia's, it totally depends on the context its taken in. I know many non-muslims who considerd this as deep mourning rather than self harm..

Salam Alikum all, My condolances to Imam Al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) on the matrydom of the master of martyrs.

1-The revelution of Imam Hussain is still running, and we are still in the state of Jihad until Imam Al-Mahdi (a.s) re-appears and avenges his blood. Now the slogan of Imam AlMahdi (a.s) will be "Revolting for Hussain"( يا لثارات الحسين) Hence we are still in the state of Jihad.

In Jihad, self harm is permissable, hence tatbir is permissable from this aspect.

Ahlul bayt did not teach this. When harm is inflicted, it is not acceptable by Islam.  The tragedy of Karbala is to teach humanity to overcome oppression, corruption, and tyranny. Islam is balance, either extreme is wrong, and this one of those extremes.
