It may all look like fun and games now, but when that puppy is a full grown dog it will know it can out chase and power over any cat. A big dog always has the ability to kill a cat. A dog should always be taught to be submissive to a cat.

Now, there is still the possibility of the dog harming other cats when it is older. The reason for this is that the dog may chase them intending to play. An uncooperative cat's behavior can lead to the dog accidently killing it. But if your dog chases other animals and you let it roam free, you have an entirely different set of problems.

My dog loves my youngest cat - they play together all the time. My dog used to love my cat Valentine to pieces. When he was a kitten, she used to use her legs to knock his legs out from under him, then lick his belly. Now they completely ignore each other >_< Glad these guys became friends.

When we got my dog, my two cats use to try to mess him up. Now he had a full grown lab that watched out for him and chased off the cats. One cat died, and the lab died, and now the younger dog and one cat are left. He's 11, she's 16, and she can't stand it when he's not around for more than a couple hours. He is definitely her "baby"

Cats (and this cat, if you watch the day 1 video) arch their back, puff their fur, stand sideways when confronted.

Cat has sharp claws, a strong bite and -- when the situation warrants it -- are really nimble, can wriggle out of almost anything (ever tried to hold a reluctant cat to give it some medicine?) and can bound out of the way, run really fast, and leap up high / climb things.

I didn't see any of these things here, only a mild case of cat-wavy-tail at one point.

Obviously you don't know much about cats and dogs, my cat and my puppy with rough play with no claws out and no biting all in fun and when my cat is done she goes up her cat tree and the pup walks away. My older dog and my cat don't play but they lay on the same couch and smell eachother and the occasional kiss. This behaviour does not mean the dog is going to eat the cat BUT that the owners need to teach the dog to be gentle with it.

It would be helpful for kitty's nerves if you provided a space for the cat where the puppy can't get to it - a secured cardboard box somewhere high up, for example.

It'd be a safe place for the cat, somewhere to retreat to when enough's enough - and then when the puppy does chase it around, you'll know the cat doesn't mind.

They seem to be playing healthily, but keep an eye on your cat. If he's reciprocating and seems to be enjoying himself, at least a little bit, not need to worry, but if he's spending his days hiding that's not a good sign. My friend had a cat and brought home a new pup--it seemed like they were ok, but eventually the cat was so tormented and upset that it stopped eating and starved to death because it was stressed and depressed. Make sure the pup knows what is/isn't acceptable at playtime.
