actually i remember Rick nielsen of cheap trick help Hamer make this guitar in 1977 because it was the first non-gibson made explorer.It was first made with les paul parts that he sold to the owner.I read this all in guitar players magazine
@Jawbreaker1000 Hi mate. It is impossible to say what is the best guitar as it depends on too many factors such as your playing style, type of music, neck profile preference and even weight of the guitar - these are like Les Pauls HEAVY (Around 10lbs!)
I have quite a few guitars I picked up over the years, they all sound very different. Hamers along with the Parker Fly they are my favourites, I now have two Hamer Standards! I will post a clip of the new Black and Cream custom soon.
@UnchainTheNight1 It is is USA, the imports have the name on the end, but not the quality, wood or tone - I tried them. USA's are getting difficult to find here in Europe but you can find them on Craiglist in the US. If you get the opportunity to buy one do it you will not regret it they are guitars for life and very versatile - they have great clean tones - you can play jazz on them.
I am not sure what value tone pot they used for the tone control but it gives a unique sound I cant replicate.
