My K31 is the most accurate milsurp rifle I own hands down. 2" groups at 200 meters is not uncommon. I have even taken it deer hunting in Michigan many times.
@TheRossBeast I think it shows the difference between quantity and quality. WW2 Mosin Nagants may lack in looks, but they'll work admirably if maintained. That includes cleaning out the reciever/bore of cosmoline to avoid the sticky bolt when the action heats up from firing. I have a 1942 No.4 Lee Enfield here, 1941 K31, and 1941 M1 Garand. The Americans and Swiss weren't rushed into making rifles as fast as possible like the Russians. I have a refurb 1939 M91/30 as well, pre-war beauty.
I have a K31 and dam proud of it. Even though i payed 225 euro for it. Its in excellent condition and also have the troop name tag! (The guy who used this rifle during its service was one Edelmann Ernst)
One of mine had a troop tag. Haven't tried to contact the owner. It still baffles me how could the owners or owners kids turn these rifles in for a little money or whatever reason. I am fairly positive that it wasn't manditory.
Would the K31 as a battle rifle with its straight-pull action have performed as well the way the British .303in. Lee-Enfield, the US Springfield .30/06 Springfield M1903, or the German Mauser 7.92mm Mauser Kar98k, or the Soviet/Russian 7.62 x 54R Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 or M1944 performed, as these are all truly soldier's bolt-action rifles? If Switzerland had been in a real shooting war in the '40s against Germany or the Allies, the 7.5mm K31 would have more than likely proved itself in battle.
The straight-pull K31 is an interesting carbine or rifle, not a "gun" as it is sometimes wrongly called. AND it is very accurate for a mass-produced, standard-issue weapon for an army such as the Swiss Army--even half-eyed hacks can usually shoot what they're aiming at with a K31. But is it really a good soldier's rifle? It may be good for the rifle range or for hunting game in a civilized & developed country. But how would the K31 perform at the sharp end in a real shooting war?
I have a K31 - it is excellent but i prefer the M96 or modern and more precise sporting rifles like the Sako TRG or the SabreDefence XR41.... .
There were many reasons not to begin war against switzerland - the K31 was NOT even a minor reason. The nazis concentrated on other countries and switzerland as peaceful state was no threat. Switzerland cooperated in many aspects with the nazis - so why should the nazis attack switzerland ?
I have a tag in my 1944 K31. I was able to get in touch with he original owner and have pictures of him with it and 2 shooting awards he won in 1945 with it.
No, mine didn't have a troop tag sadly but I know several others who have boughten swiss k31's and gotten troop tags with every single one they bought.
got mine from my old man,, traded him a snub 38 for it,, he got it thru military surplus for short cash, all beat up, he refinished it, now its mine and it gorgeous and i love the damn thing, very accurate at 100 yds with iron sites
Wow. $80-$100? The gun shops around where I live must want way too much because they're charging $300 minimum. But then again, these rifles are in brilliant shape, so maybe they're not. I don't know!
LOL you took the words right out of my mouth, I got mine and 197 rounds for $173, mine looks WAY better than that one, course it's a later version, 1950 with the beech stock.
Swiss make their rifles with the precision of a Swiss watch. Being a Swiss citizen and owning one of these guns...it makes me proud!

the k31 was replaced in 1957 by the sig 510, not in 1958, but the rest of the video is ok!

Did see some combat.
A brief spat at the Bagni di Craveggia in 1944.
Officially Swiss didn't take part but at a certain moment had to forcibly convince Italian units allied to the Germans to stay clear of border.
The specific terrain and long range capacity of the K31 was convincing enough.
