I wonder what Roger would've thought of his former colleague Ernie Anastos' "Keep fucking that chicken" goof up on Fox 5? He'd probably come up with a witty response to it much like he did when Mara Wolensky flipped off the one person on camera.
@noahf67 Incidentally Roger Grimsby complained to KGO management that he didn't want the Happy Talk Format before he was sent to WABC to do a newscast he really did not want to do. and right when Van Amburg took his SF seat.
Roger was a real funny man. He added alot to his reporting. And thats what makes him stand out. I remember one time a reporter wascought live giving the finger to one of the floor staff. Then they quickly cut to Roger and he said with a smile," so & so just wanted to let you know that channel 7 was number 1." Classic from a classic man.
This is channel 7 Eywitness News with Roger Grimsby, Bill Butel, Gerlado Rivera and the channel 7 Eyewitness News team.......A WABC Blast from the past.
I know NYC Viewers you think Roger Grimsby only did WABC 7 Eyewitness News. Well it is a Surpirise to see Grimsby doing ABC7 News at 7 on KGO back in the 1960's
This promo must've been late 1967/early 1968 - as that was when Bob Young was anchoring ABC's network newscast. Ironically, about a few months after Grimsby went to WABC in '68, Mr. Young began anchoring WCBS-TV's 11 P.M. newscast (which he would do until 1971).
Didn't Roger Grimsby leave KGO because ABC sent him to WABC because WABC was the worst ABC O&O in the 1960's. Ironically KGO was seen as the best ABC O&O.
Correct! In fact, Grimsby was offered to work at WABC years before he came to the station. Grimsby turned down the offer and stayed at KGO till the station gave him a much better offer to come to New York and anchor their 6:30 newscast.
Who Did Roger Gimsby Replace on WABC in NY when Roger KGO anchor position was taken over by VanAmburg and Jerry Jensen.

Roger Grimsby was HOT. I had a mad crush on him.
I sent him a fan letter when I was in 7th grade. Weeks later an autographed postcard with his photo came in the mail, which I still have to this day.

New York

I think Roger was the pioneer of droll
anchorman humor. WABC's earliest EWN wasn't
as much "happy news" as "droll news", and way
more entertaining and communicative than
anything in today's info-tainment news world.

Without Grimsby there would be no Van Amburg and Jerry Jensen in the Bay Area.

That SUCKED! I was actually anticipating seeing Grimsby start the 7:00 news on KGO! Instead it cuts to Grimsby circa 1980!

Interesting that Roger Grimsby got his start on KGO. Is it True that KGO was the first ABC O&O to go Color?

How long did KGO have ABC7 news at 7PM

Roger Grimsby was an anchor for 17 years on WABC Eyewitness News in New York. He was fired in 1986 when Capital Cities completed the ABC acquisition.

Ironically both Grimsby and Van Amburg got fired in 1986

Is Mr. Amburg still living these days? Thanks.
