there was a nice story in a doctor who novel, that had the 6th doctor battling the valeyard in his mind, and eventually sacrificed himself in order to destroy the valeyard, and he just had the misfortune of getting attacks by the rani right afterward. very nicely done simulation by the way:)
@garethleslie123 Don't talk bullshit. Colin Baker was a great doctor and is one of the kindest men your ever meet so Don't go waving stupid and rather repulsive acuations !
Unfortunately, no state-of-the-art special effects can make Time and the Rani a decent serial. Lovely job though. Definitely looks a lot less ridiculous.
I think it was bloody disgusting, that Colin Baker was forced to leave Dr Who after trial of a time lord. I know Colin has said many billions of times he was content to play the Doctor, for seven years like Tom Baker had done, or even stay longer than Tom's seven years. I personally would have loved Colin to have continued in the role for as long or even longer than Tom, I think if Colin should have stayed for ten years or longer even.It was a bloody shame Colin was elbowed out of the role.
@rojblake82 So true, so many people don't give him a chance simply because he was the guy who was fired and "clearly isnt very good". He deserved so much better, every episode with him is a joy to watch.
@olliestoes Ithank you for you support in my statement and you have given me good feedback, that Colin Baker was a bloody super Doctor and he was not given the chance to play the role the way he wanted to play it. I was well hacked off when he was fired, and I have said ever since he should he been given the chance he deserved and he was absymally treated. I also think Colin has stickability which Peter, whom he succeeded does not, I would have cast Colin as Roj Blake in B7 if I had had my way.
@rojblake82 Yeah I think its disgraceful that he was fired, But you forget that even if he wasn't he would only have ever done five years, as three years after he left doctor who was brought to an end (Well for a bit anyway ;~D)
I think it is wrong that he was fired but I am really glad Sylvester Mccoy got the role. Remember, if he didnt get sacked we would never have seen Sylvester Mccoys doctor. I still think it was wrong to fire Colin though.
@rojblake82 I agree entirely. Colin was saddled with truly dreadful stories and a shameful lack of conviction from the production team. They were just churning out the same old stories, but lacking any sort of thought to them at all, plus he had that dreadful, terrible, hideous costume. The BBC were very kind in letting the production team have 18 months to re-invent itself. So what did they do? More of the same old rubbish. Poor Colin. I rather liked his Doctor.
@Rassilon72 I liked Colins role as Bayban in Blakes seven, in the episode city at the edge of the world but I secretly would have liked Colin to have been cast as Roj Blake in Blakes seven instead of Gareth thomas who did not stay around long enough in the role of Blake. If Colin had played, Blake he would have stayed in B7 longer and B7 might have run longer than four seasons. Do you think given your view if any, Colin Baker would have made an excellent Blake in Blakes seven instead of Gareth.
@alphamone I am not saying Colin was no good as the Doctor, he should have had a better run and like you said been permitted to play the doctor in the way he wanted to paly the doctor. I liked Colins role as Bayban, in Blake's Seven in City at the Edge of the world he was ace in that role in billions of ways. I wish Colin had played Blake in Blake's Seven instead of Gareth Thomas who pushed off after two seasons which was a shame in billions of way. Wht do you think about Colin Baker as Blake.
You used a piece of twenty-three year old footage, from a poor-quality source, that has a didgital effect over the face, and still managed to do a better job than the BBC did. I love it and am glad you made it.
john nathan turner and some people at the BBC are to blame for doctor who taking a down turn in ratings in the mid eighties. if i could have been producer back then i would have had colin baker wear a white suit with a black velvet vest and matching tie. the inside of the tardis i would have redone in a gothic style and most importantly i would have tried to get private funding for better sfx effects and better script writers like peter j hammond and tanith lee.
Excellent work. Loved the new effects and the editing in of 'In A Fix with the Sontarans.' The result is now a little bit more dignified ending for my favourite Doctor.
As ColonelBarker said, the skin tones don't quite match on the overlay. Looks a little like Colin's covered in pancaked makeup. Besides that, it's a fantastic job.
Where you've got the energy pop behind Colin's head, how about a bit of flame or debris to give it just that touch more presence?
Ive always wondered, what really happened to the 6th Doctor during the crash? My theory is he either cracked his skull off the TARDIS Console or broke his neck while falling, or maybe because of the crash energy was released from the TARDIS, thus starting the regeneration.
Nice edit though. Perhaps you could have had a huge explosion in the console room and everything burning.
@OwenDWF Hey Owen, According to then Producer John Nathan-Turner, the Doctor (Colin Baker) slammed his head (with Me behind him) on the TARDIS console knocking them both to the deck of the control room. Mel got it easy as she hit the Doctor instead of the console (supposedly why they are on opposite sides of the TARDIS controls).
solidbronze that is awesome work!!! Adding Colins face was something I've always thought they should do. I love the use of the other footage at the begining. What about instead of the blast from behind his head an electrical charge from the console itself, caused from one of the external blasts? I hope they do an official extra scene like this one day. Fantastic work though :)
@OwenDWF in all honesty, the BBC state that his falling from his exercise bike whilst the Tardis was ambushed in space triggered the regeneration. As far as I'm concerned the writing was on the wall for the series in its then-current state when this happened; how they could plummet from dramatic regeneration-inducing storylines like spectrox toxaemia and crystalline radiation to the Doctor having to regenerate simply because he was just giving-it-a-bit-too-much-Jane-Fonda beggars belief.
The added sound effects and the lead in scene really help to set the mood.
Plus the removal of the Rani walking in and saying "Leave the girl, it's the man I want...." which wasn't exactly the best dialogue to begin a new story with a new Doctor.
Fantastic Effort, this is what we should have got instead, although preferably the Sixth Doctor would have continued on for much longer in the role, if I had my way :)
Looks lovely. My only suggestion is 'Colin Baker's face on the regneration itself looks slightly darker or contrasty compared to the rest of the picture. But love the new music and sfx throughout.
Nice work - I always felt Colin got the bad end of the stick when it came to the BBC and a certain then Director-General's opinion of the show. It would have been nice to have Colin get the send off he deserved (and Spiral Scratch made a fairly good job of it) and this does go some of the way too. Well done! :)
@solidbronze I meant Micheal Grade - just realised he was actually BBC Controller then and Director General today, but he was the fellow who disliked Doctor Who at the time, wasn't he?
