@ohedd They brought it up making an implicit point that "a woman's right to choose" is directly linked to the "reduction in crime", the point I was making was that there is, apart from the abstract concept of whether abortion is morally right or wrong, a social argument in favour of it and further to that that a woman's right to an abortion is a good thing for the rest of society. The idea that poor people should have less children can be (correctly in my opinion) applied.

@IAmKingBonzo To be honest, I think abortion should be legal, but only if it's done during the first 6 weeks of conception. After 6 months any woman should be aware that she's pregnant and has had a little time to think before making the decision, but after 6 weeks it should be illegal. We can't allow other people to cease another person's process of life just because it's convenient for them. Can't handle the baby? Put it up for adoption.

We know the baby is alive at conception and we know humans have a right to life. Both of these points are true. It follows that abortion would be immoral if your society values the right to life. @ohedd They brought it up making an implicit point that "a woman's right to choose" is directly linked to the "reduction in crime", the point I was making was that there is, apart from the abstract concept of whether abortion is morally right or wrong, a social argument in favour of it and further to that that a woman's right to an abortion is a good thing for the rest of society. The idea that poor people should have less children can be (correctly in my opinion) applied.

After 6 months any woman should be aware that she's pregnant and has had a little time to think before making the decision, but after 6 weeks it should be illegal. We can't allow other people to cease another person's process of life just because it's convenient for them. Can't handle the baby? Put it up for adoption.

People love to make this a all-or-nothing issue, but that's impossible to justify logically. The importance is context - and whether the woman consented or not is a huge piece of information that should determine the answer.
If a woman consents to sex and gets pregnant, it is not "big government" or violating her rights at all. She consented. With any decision in life, you should live with the consequences - good or bad.
This is not a republican position, but probably objective/libertarian.

It is fact that a baby is alive at conception. An amoeba is considered to be alive as it draws upon its external environment. All life starts like this, including a fetus.
If a woman consents to sex, the abortion should be illegal because it violates the baby's right to life and she should accept responsibility.
But with rape/incest, I am pro-choice, because she didn't consent.

What if a reckless driver hits a pregnant mother's vehicle and kills the fetus, is he not responsible for the death of the fetus in this case? You'd be crazy to say that neither the doctor or the driver are responsible for the loss of life.
A pro-life philosophy is consistent in all cases.

We know the baby is alive at conception and we know humans have a right to life. Both of these points are true. It follows that abortion would be immoral if your society values the right to life. In order to be a free society, you have to value the right to life. You can't just pick and choose when it applies.

When a woman consents to sex, she is accepting the responsibility of her actions. One of those consequences is potential pregnancy.
Freedom is being able to choose to do behavior, but it's also about accepting the consequences of your actions (and not getting a pass or a bailout from government for a poor choice - in all areas including sex).

He is personally prolife and believes it should not be legal. so, he has said, only the "family" , meaning those involved in the pregnancy, should make the decision...not government. There are more people involved in any pregnancy then just the woman. I personally do NOT understand why you all don't realize that her responsibility began the moment she spread her legs!

Guys...the abortion issue is a just an example of the narcissism of minor differences. Exceptions for rape and incest don't make any sense. If you believe that a fertilized egg is a US citizen, then how it got there shouldn't change what it is.
It's either a citizen that's owned by the United States, or it's a part of a woman's body, owned by the woman.

Any human should be able to dictate what happens to their bodies. No one else has the right to tell you what or what you can't do to your body. Republicans campaign on the government controlling too much of your life yet they are the ones deeply entering your body itself. They are hypocrites. This guy is a moron. Plain and simple. First off, NO MAN, has the right to tell a woman what to do to her body. If a woman is raped, or becomes pregnant due to incest then she should have the right to abort it. NOBODY has the right to force a woman to keep something created out of a situation like that. Pure stupidity on the part of The Young Turks. It seems quite clear to me that Herman Cain is saying HE PERSONALLY is against abortion regardless of circumstances. However, he feels that Row -v- Wade is settled law, and will not pursue a Constitution Amendment banning abortion, nor try to force his will upon anyone else. All critique based upon a lack of common sense, and in an attempted to diminish a candidate is just stupid, and part of the reason why country is in this shape.
