  • What type of ram does it take?

  • If anyone can help me out, i just wanted to know is it any ddr3 ram that can be installed on mac mini model a1283, if not which specific ones can be installed i was thinking it might be 1066, if so where are they sold by this time. I know theres alot of better computer specs out there now with i7 etc but i just love how its so quite :).

  • What's the front antena for? The wire came loose on mine and don't know where it's ment to go? :s

  • what keys do you hold down to reset the PRAM if I'm not using a mac keyboard?

  • uuugh. I have to pry the thing out. I can't believe Apple has made it this way. interesting.

  • you can put 4GB in but it will only use 3.3Gb or ram

  • use a putty knife to open the case !

  • omg , whats that song ? i know it from somewhere

  • Comment removed

  • I think it was on one of the first HD YouTube videos, I think it was called Dolphins HD

  • small ass comuper

  • Great Tutorial ! Probably the best one from all. I followed it and managed to go through the whole process. I added 3G of ram on my mac mini duocore2 1.something Mhz. Thank you .

  • Apple should have configured ram packs to be installable via trap door

  • dude nice song. Ozzy rules!!!

  • Unfortunately due to copyright claims I was forced to remove it all <_<

  • Can it use more then 2gb or lees

Mine right now 1gb . i want to put 4gb

    single stick 2gb

  • If I were to do this I would probably break the thing.

  • 3 gb is the max on core 2 duo

  • I dont know about the core 2's, but the Core Duos have a 2gb cap.

  • That is correct

  • i got 4 in mine

  • Acutually its 2GB i dont think OSX leopard wiil support 4GB RAM on mac mini core 2 duo

  • RAM is temporary storage. The only stuff stored on RAM are thing like Firefox, Word etc. Basically applications, or anything you need quick access to. When you shut down your computer the RAM is cleared every time. Things such as music, icons, and other data are all stored on the hard drive.

  • Thanks for the vid dude. I read it was that simple, but the vid helps a lot. im gonna be upgrading my RAM soon.

  • Try using a putty knife for removing the cover. works great.

  • sei un animale!

  • can you add 4gb to a mac mini?

  • No. 2gb is the max.

  • actually, you can put up to 3gb in the core 2 duo models. You can even put 4gb. But, the mini only sees 3gb. Putting 4gb as apposed to 3gb only gives tiny performance enhacements for that particular model. I think this is the core duo model.

  • does the mac mini use laptop RAM or desktop RAM? these sticks look taller than the usual and shorter too.

  • does the mac mini use laptop RAM or desktop RAM? these sticks look taller than the usual and shorter too.

  • notebook ram

  • It's not that hard i tryed it with my new intel core2 duo mac mini. Hey one more question is that a intel core solo or 2 duo?

  • Its not a core 2 duo, just a core duo

  • can you run higher than 2 gigs or is that all it will be able to stand

  • I believe it is 1 gig per slot, so 2 gigs is the max.

  • actually an intel mac mini can take a maximum of 3.25gb RAM

  • 3.25gb is impossible in two slots. I checked up on the Apple site. 2gb is the max.

  • wow thats more work than it needs to be lol. i can do desktop or laptop but if i ever get a mac mini i'm jus goin to let the store do it all on it's own!

  • Haha. I agree that its alot of work, but the Apple store charges about $150 to upgrade from 512mb to 1GB. I did it for $0. Even if you need to buy the sticks its half the price for twice the RAM.

  • no way would i be going to apple! i am a friend of a manager with a tech store i can get it done for free!

  • u're having a hard time taking it out!

  • Yup. They did a real good job cramming everything in there.

  • the way u dig the casing usin a screw driver, did u somehow damage it?

  • The only putty knife I have is a cheap plastic one. I highly recommend using a good, thin one as oppose to the screwdriver that I used. The screwdriver did mess up the case a little, but because its on the bottom no one will ever notice.

  • You used the wrong speed of RAM, buddy.

The Memory you need to use is 667 MHz (PC2-5300)

  • Both are compatable. I used these because they were laying around the house. Pc 5300 would cause better preformance, but any DDR2 Sdram should work in the mini.

  • so whats the highest speeed supported?

  • the one's i mentioned above...

  • great! Thanks! mine is coming in a few day's time! Im so excited about it!

  • Yup, PC2-5300 is the highest speed, the same speed the Mini ships with.

  • how will i know what gen mini i have, do you know? excellent vid and cant fault a bit of classic ozzy

  • The one in this video is 3rd gen I believe (most current as of now). Theres no easy way to know what you have (at least one that I know), but if you take off the lid, the old Minis' RAM is located on the side and accessable without taking anything else off (DVD drive etc.). The old Minis' RAM is also not the small RAM, rather it takes 1 stick of desktop sized RAM.

    Hope that helped.

    -Amir

  • thank you amir. just have to get a putty knife now. o yeah and some ram. these mini's are good for the money. im pleased with mine but that dreaded beachball keeps poping up... grrr
