@alexmishchuk Janek Gwizdala went to school but in his young years did alot of transcription by ear. Most of these guys learned by ear. Don't be afraid...find some musicians who are willing to let you jam with them. The chops come but you have to just let your instrument be your voice...you'll be just as good as these guys.

I have to agree to a certain extent. I think the bass is an extremely versatile instrument capable of expressing a large spectrum of musical ideas. But for me, the bass' identity is in its low and low-mid range and its GROOVE. A lot of what I hear in this video is essentially organ-eque or guitar-esque jazz runs on the bass. Its all good and well, but I'll take a solid James Jamerson groove over this stuff anyday.

@ascott4003 there are just taking the melody. a melody is the "noticeable tune of a song" a harmony is the background chords/progression that supports the melody. so this approach sometimes takes the melody so the flow ends up as such. not sure if you agree or not im just bein open minded. just my opinion, do you disagree with that angle ?

The performances on the DVD is great, as well as the camera work/production, but there is ZERO info of who the players are, what songs they're playing, chapters ect. What would have been cool too is seeing that us bass players love gear, to list the players and what they are using. Overall though it's an amazing DVD!
