The only game you need to see in this is at 2:57. All other games on the list cannot compare. Tribes 1 and 2 = Broken. Nothing tops them. Halo 3 is only now starting to add jetpacks which the Tribes series had done back in 1998 (and perfected it).

Game developers should consider making demos of their games that are capable of connecting to full version game servers in multiplayer. That way they could easily give away a demon on PS store or xbox and get more people to play their multiplayer (if it's good ofc) and eventually buy the game.

Quake Live, Nexuiz and OpenArena are all free FPS shooters with beautiful graphics and a lot of servers/players that have that oldschool fast and fun feel. One on One maps, CTF, Domination...32 vs 32...that's the kind of shooters that are great for burst of fun! Great vid!

Gears 1 is the only online shooter I play. Gears 2 was a major disappointment and while other games like Halo and CoD are fun, they don't deliver the intense, heart-pumping experiences Gears 1 does when you're in a shotgun battle or when you pull a 1 vs. 4 clutch.

@zombiekicker , I like Bad Company as well, but playing the same match for a year CAN become boring, MW2 has a variety of gametypes, plus certain objectives that take part within a game. Bad Company has like 30+ players thats why I like it.

Same match? It's never the same, 100% infantry combat seems too tedious to me. Lots of maps, lots of variety, you play the game you want to play it. Tanks, Helicopters, snipers, you name it - you can be it, in MW2, you can be what, a person with a rifle. If you like MW2, fair play to you, honestly, but i'm passionately in a spiral of hate towards it. I fail to see what makes it good, except the fact your friends play it - Communities often make games.

One thing continues to surprise me though... Whenever I hear game reviewers/journalists talk about the CoD series as if it invented unlockable weapons and character skills. When it comes to shooters, all those things come from the Battlefield series. Even the little hit indication cross that Ryan mentions - came from the Battlefield games.

I realize does really affect anything... but am I the only one who thinks professional reviewers should know a little history on the subject?

But in general I don't play multiplayer games much, I play it when it comes out for a month or so and then I play some more rpgs or other long singleplayer games.

why quake works in 1v1: because you have to pick up items when you spawn, if you dont you're dead because your opponent has got the armor/weapons/health.

why cod doesnt work in 1v1: because you spawn with everything you need so why would you want to move around? just camp i a corner and wait for your opponent.
