we have a model 3 at my fire dept. before it was rebuilt it used to get stuck at full rpm for about a minute every other time it went off. works great now. all the other depts in town decommissioned their sirens but ours is staying forever.
if i understand correctly the federal signal model 3 and the cute 2001 are basically the same siren...except the 2001 rotates and it it much louder. thats the reason why they sound the same.
thats why a model 2T siren and the Thunderbolt 1000T siren sound the same because they both have the same stator and rotor except the thunderbolt is louder than the model2 because of its blower and its horn,
@hootergirlsrhot Yup, they sure did. The model 3 uses the same rotor and stator as the 2001 and the high tone of the xt22's. THe rotor is smaller than a model 5 and the housing is a good deal smaller than a model 5's.
@Audinos The signal used in the video is the fire signal, it is 5 rounds of 12 seconds on and 5 seconds off. The weather alert signal is a 2 minute alert.
Flawless, great job on the resto, hopefully when I'm fishing on the lake I will hear it! Sounds great! Did they say why it never made it to the new building in the first place?
@idk6000 The actual tone you hear this siren sounding is attack, which is the oscillating tone used for all fire calls. I've heard a diaphone sounding on numerous occasions for fire calls, but I don't know what it is! Its location is on the roof of South Williamsport Fire Department fire station 10 on Southern Avenue. Do you have any idea what it might be? I was thinking it might be Gamewell.
Awesome job! I can definitely hear the relationship between this and the 2001, it sounds nearly identical to an early 2001DC only omni-directional. That is by far one of the best restorations on a Model 3/5/7 I've seen yet!
@idk6000 nice job restoring the siren how much did it cost for the full restoration?

@idk6000 That makes sense, this has the same timbre as a 2001. The Model 5 and 7 have a much different one that shakes your chest more.

@hootergirlsrhot What I'm confused about is that fs makes,or made, the models 1,2,3,5, and seven, but NO 4 or 6.

Is it still using a 3 HP motor? Awesome Job restoring this rare siren.

@keoghjacob Yes, this is the original 3 HP motor that came with the siren in '58
