OMG my band makes it sound good. You know our snare drummer doesn't die at the beginning and we also added an extremely sick quad solo in the middle. Holy shit its great
Just some advice ,alway be arranged by sections Always and and don't ever stop playing in the middle of a song, ever. the Baritone girl @ 1:08 is example ; any person that has ever been in a marching band knows that if your going to do something, do it right .
I have one thing to say, Did you ever look up when this video was first posted? i mean our band has gotten a lot better check out some stuff from 09-11 and you'll see a huge difference.
I enjoyed both of the middle and or high school band versions of this tune.However...To me, the original instrumental (and recently as of a few or several minutes ago discovered vocal version) Rocks! But...sorry if i upset any of you talented young ladies and guys.Keep up the good work!!
nice job on the main section when you get the people to turn into one direction to another but dude why a basketball game? football games sound ALOT more better i think i should record our band but hey nice job
This is my school's fight song!!! we play it at football games... its ironic because how school's mascot is a colt CRHS gotta love spelling regional in the middle of the song
@atuck1ngfypo It's not the colt, it's the red devils... they do this song because streetsboro is their rivals and streetsboro does an amazing horse. drummer standing on their heads and throwing instruments around. Crestwood will never be as good as us!!
At CHS, we like to play our simpler songs FAST. It's kind of hard to get the crowd pumped when you're playing boring old quarter notes and eighth notes slowly...
For one what the flying f@#$ is the drum major doing. And why is the band spread out like that. Flutes next to baritones? And it sounds so so bad. It's way too fast.
O.K. The REAL story: Black High School Marching Bands all over the country had been jamming hard, playing the current and hip songs heard on Black radio "by ear" (with no written sheet music) since, at least, the mid 60's. The white schools had intricate marching routines and all their music was store bought sheet music, but not hip and no soul. This was one of the first hip songs to be transcribed to sheet music and mass distributed and ALL the white schools thought they were hip to play this.
You are very correct. I (class of '73) was lead sax player in our predominately black high school marching band. Our band director had her friend transcibe "Check Out Your Mind, " My Cherie Amour" and "Lift Ev'ry Voice" for us. Later I went on to transcribe "Blues & Pants" by James Brown for the whole band. But the saxes, 'bones and trumpets grooved really hard on K-Jee, Cold Sweat, Go-Go Gorilla and nearly ALL of James Browns tunes "by ear" or were taught by one of the section leaders.
Nice history lesson...and you're right because I just remembered that I went to a predominately black high school..and I taught some people songs by ear..we were jamming
High school football in the 1980's wouldn't have been the same without the horse. It was the other schols that played it but it is one of my best memories of those times. Yes, the black schools had the best bands. The music was more exciting for sure and they always had the best entrance.
What's up with the thumbs down? Is this not an accurate description of what happened to "The Horse," and the contrasts between black and white high school marching bands in the 60's or the 70's? I politely implore anyone (who knows what they are talking about) to offer a differing opinion. Also, based on the other 'thumbs down' among the comments here, it seems that if a comment is not bright & rosy, it gets a thumbs down.
OK, don't know how many will remember this, or admit it, but I'll tell you what this song was more than anything else. It was the perfect "strutting entrance" song. What does that mean? Just this. How many guys who played football remember walking into a gym with their crew, all wearing letter jackets, and that song playing? It was impossible not to strut like you were God's gift to women. Sad, but true. Those were the days. Thanks for the reminder.
This is band is no good, i mean our band used to have 350 in band, We only have about 220 now and we still make it sound cleaner and LOUD, when a marching band plays its gotta sound LOUD and PROUD and like your the best band in your state!
These kids did an excellant job! This was very entertaining. The song used to be played at football games in the 1960's. I'm glad to see it has not been forgotten. A+A+A+A+A+
Oh man this brings back so many memories! I'm a freshman at college, and I was in my high school marching band for 4 years and this was my favorite song that we played!
Our version was slightly different though, and I still remember what we yelled at the big percussion part. At football games, we would yell "Die you gravy sucking pigs! Uh!" during that part and it was so funny!
This is a great song. It's always been in our folios in my marching band but we've never played it until just now when my band director decided to return it to the playbook so to speak. Cool.
yeah... i am in junior high and our band teacher pushes us so im playin that song in 7th grade now... those trumpets must be really good-- cuz its hard... we do play it a little slower though.
LOLOLOLOLOL why are all the secions broken up i se a group of tubas in on place and 4 others in differ ones
did u guys just wanna sit where ever because u guys would get a better sound if u had ur secions....not say ur bad but u would be much better if u was in groups
It because we were at a volleyball game and nobody gives a shit if we sound good or not at those lol. Most of us are just there to keep our grades up. Also it sounds much better in person and even better at the football games when we are all together. I also like how all of the sophomore clarinets are outside smoking cigars instead of playing hahahaha :O GO BAND!

We liked to play stuff fast. Higher, Faster, Louder. What else are you going to do with 140 people in high school pep band?
It's not the best performance of it, though. Not tight enough.
