I see that it has a lot of things that Photoshop has... can you show some demonstrations on random awesomeness like fixing errors in photos or altering a color photo so that it can be black and white with one actual color? [^_^]
@Saw9849 Each time you add a layer, it's like laying a sheet of glass on top of your previous layers. Let's say you have 4 layers labelled #1, #2, #3, #4. #1 is the bottom layer or bottom sheet of glass in the stack and #4 is the top sheet. You can paint on any one of the sheets of glass without affecting the others, this is very useful for making changes to your image without destroying it completely.
@Saw9849 You could have a blank white background on layer #1, then draw a rough outline sketch on layer #2, then trace your final image on #3 (cos you can trace over the sketch you see on layer #2), then perhaps you could draw things which you're not sure you'll keep in the final image on #4. In the Layers window you can make any of these layers visible/invisible depending on your needs or you can make them swap place like swapping sheets of glass in a stack. Hope this explanation helped.
when I use this and I paste, there is always this anyoing black like no matter witch layer I'm on A cant get rid of, nor can I do much out side of the black like
got a problem, want to delete the background. these other tutorials of other people, they don't explain it well...ehm...if you just give some basic clues it would be awesome
i'd really like to know how to chage a background on a photo of a person or animal to something like a decorated images like blue swirls and purple flowers with pink background... that's an example... i want it to look as if the picture was taken witht he background and not chopped and pasted... is that possible?
Dude thanks for this video. I didn't know this piece of software existed. I've been looking for something like Photoshop that was either cheap or free. Thank You.
hey plz reply to this i need help i made the picture now i want to save it so that i can get it on photobucket please help me out here im at an impass
Thank you ozwalled for the excellent tutorials. They are easy to watch because they are easy to see. Your volume is excellent, because I am sort of hard of hearing and many times tutorial videos have the volume so low that even when you try to turn it up it is still too low!
Are you going to create more tutorials in the series? I would like to make a banner with photos or pictures added to it with shading and texts. A really professional looking banner.
What you can do is select the text (say with the Lasso selection tool, for example), and then with the Move Selected Pixels tool, drag a side node to invert the text, and then once it's inverted, you can drag and drop the text to position it where desired.
Thank you soooooo much. I would love to share what I have done with you if you would like to see it. I am going to iron on the picture on little aprons as party favors for my sons pizza party. You made my day!
Thank you for such great tutorials! I have my sons birthday party coming up and I would like to creat a put a cutout picture of his face onto a cartoon picture of a chef holding a pizza. Basically I want to be able to put my sons face instead of this cartoon guys face. How can I do that? In tutorial 3 you talked about pictures but not combining 2 or more pictures together to make some sort of collage. Thanks again!
What you could do is have the "chef" picture as the first image, and a picture of your son as the second image. On the second image, use the lasso tool to select your son's face and Edit/Copy. The going back to the first image, Add Layer and Edit/Paste that that face onto the chef's body, on the new layer, and the use the Move selected Pixels tool to resize the face with the corner nodes (while holding SHIFT), and then drag it into the proper place.
More or less, the clone stamp is used to duplicate an area of your image into another area. Select a brush size for it, and then while holding Ctrl, select the area you with to clone (this will be your anchor point), and then draw onto another area, and you'll begin to replicate your drawing in the new area, starting from your anchor point. It's probably best understood if you use that info and give it a try.
Yeah, pretty much -- one of the great things about layers is that using them gives you FAR more flexibility in terms of what you can do with your work, and they also give you a lot more leeway in terms of making mistakes -- If I put text on a separate layer, for example, and realize later that I made a typo, then all I have to do is edit THAT LAYER instead of the entire image. There's more to it than that, of course, but that's one of the advantages of using layers.
Well, if you added the text and still have the image open since you last saved it, what you COULD do is undo until the text you added is gone.
HOWEVER, if the other things you added to the image are important, then what you could do is use the lasso selection too to select and then Copy the REST of the image that doesn't cover the area where you added the text, and THEN undo everything until the text goes away, and then Paste the previously selected area back into the image.
You can just use the Color Picker to get the exact color, but to use the style of letters, you would have to know the font of the text. Unless, of course, you're an amazing copy artist...
hey oz great tutorials! your videos are very clear and easy to follow i was wondering if you can show my son and me how to cut out part of a pic and add it to another picture.we would love to see you go threw all the tools as well like blending colors in graffiti type style...ty ozwald hope to see more vids soon
i have a question. in all of your tutorials you didn't go over shading. Can't you put black on a image then do something to make it into a shaded object?
i have this picture with a white background and writing in it using ms paint. i want to copy and paste this writing onto other images. but lately i copied and pasted the writing but there is sort of blending. i saved the image to my pictured
I don't get a thing about the layers. I have a picture with a white background and i want to place it on top of another picture, BUT the white must be invisible on the other picture plz help ME!!!
Something that might work is making a new layer, and putting your clock image on that layer, above the background layer. Double-click the clock layer in your Layers window, and change its Blending mode (try Multiply, Darken and Lighten to see if any of those work. If they don't, try the others).
OK I have a problem with saving I dont know whats happening. I try to save my picture but it doesnt show any preview.I try to upload it everythng says wrong file type, and yes I am saving it as jpeg, and many others. HELP!!!!!!!!!
ok, so heres the deal, i have a picture where the background is white, how can i get the background transparent?.. (please answer, katamari915) if you want to know what kind of picture, it is a sprite sheet. thank you, and i hope you respond!
If you're doing a traditional sprite sheet this should be easy, since you have hard outlines that aren't anti-aliased.
Using the Magic Wand tool set to a very low tolerance, click on the white area outside of the sprites. That should select that area. Now press your "delete" key, which should erase the white area, leaving transparency in its place. Save As and switch to a png file format, and you have a sprite shet with a transparent background.
very interesting ive been looking for something i could download but be able to make better creations because reagular ms paint i spend hours drawing.....hehe its so fun...but does this make it easier to draw the characters you want because i dont trace im just lookin for something so i can draw the characters in more exquisite and precise detail?
I discovered you're video while looking for a solution to merge 2 or 3 pictures next to each other. Perhaps that could be part of how to work with images.
Thanks anyway for the tutorials! Even people in Belgium are looking at it!
I don't know if your familiar with making Signatures for website boards but I was wondering if you have any good tutorials on how to make cool, or decent signatures like people use CS3 for and stuff.
In terms of how easy it is to pick up versus what it can do, then I agree fully. Photoshop IS more full-featured, and can do a number of things that PaintDotNet doesn't do very well or easily, however.
The very fact that Photoshop has graphics tablet compatibility for pressure sensitivity, and that it has soft brushes without having to resort to plugins, and that dodging and burning are there right out of the box, to me, says otherwise.
The ability to add plugins for PaintDotNet is nice, as is its unlimited history, etc., but I really can't see it as being on the same level as Photoshop quite yet.
I'm curious to hear why you feel PaintDotNet is more full-featured.
Yeah, the thing is, that was meant as a sort of spoof -- the comic itself makes a lot of videogame and comicbook references, so that pic was sort of just a silly thing done for promotional purposes. He doesn't actually look like that in the comic, ever.
Nice clear tutorials. I find them very helpful. The next step (for me) would be a tutorial on cutting-out an image of a person from a photo and putting it on a new background. There are other tutorials, but they are nowhere near as clear as yours.
Could you do a tutorial on how to put pictures on top of other pictures pls? Lets say a large background of twilight then i want to put smaller pictures around the edge and outline them.
Ermm, Can you plz do a video on , When you have a picture and u need to rubb a writing tht u rote on it and change it to a diffrent thing , like first if i had Straberrie then i saved it then i wanted it as Apple how cna i do tht ?
Oz , would love to see you do a tutorial on how to photochop a picture. Lets say someone is holding a can of soda . Remove the can and place something else in his hand. Then change the color of the object . Leaving everything else in tact.
I do hope to look at something like this, but to do it really well, I'd say you're looking at something more advanced than "basics", since you have to consider matching the new object with the rest of the picture -- depending on the pics used, it can be pretty difficult. Still, I'll give it a shot eventually, and will certainly do a less advanced version to at least set people on the right path.
While it's a BIT more advanced, I will be covering some different kinds of image editing down the road. As always, THE very best way to stay up to date with videos as they're released is by subscribing to the channel. :)
Ah! Good one. Thanks for the suggestion -- although I've not really started that video series yet, I WILL, in the next few months, be making some videos that are geared more to general basics of drawing that can be applied to PaintDotNet and other tools, and this will be something that I'll be sure to cover now.
Can you please make a video on how to duplicate pictures?? please please please or just tell me

NeRaGold19 2 years ago
Use png for better quality ^-^.
When you save your picture. Add --.png -- to the end.((The .png is important))
If it shows the preview then you've done it right.
So: E'g:
Mario and sonic picture ((This is wrong))
Mario and Sonic picture.png ((This should work. Do it for all your pictures =D
if you save as jpg then add .jpg to the end.
I lost a picture myself with the confusion..I liked it aswell but I still haven't recovered it so I'm clueless if you CAN get the back..sorry =(

Keep up the good work.

Nice! I'm looking towards creating a Firefox theme. Is there any way you can show a video on how to edit a graphic image?

How do you make a picture turn into a cartoon like a picture of you and you make it into a drawing like you drew it.
billykid98 3 years ago
Hm. I'm sure there are a number of ways to do it...
Pretty much any way you look at it, it's not something that'd be done in a few simple steps.

Oz , would love to see you do a tutorial on how to photochop a picture. Lets say someone is holding a can of soda . Remove the can and place something else in his hand. Then change the color of the object . Leaving everything else in tact.
Thanks for the great help . Kudos to you

I'd like to see you make a video of basic shading in pictures you draw.
therobinho11 3 years ago
Ah! Good one. Thanks for the suggestion -- although I've not really started that video series yet, I WILL, in the next few months, be making some videos that are geared more to general basics of drawing that can be applied to PaintDotNet and other tools, and this will be something that I'll be sure to cover now.
Thanks again for the great suggestion. :)

No problem and thanks for covering it :)
