  • another good idea is to let those dollars store scrubbies and sponges soak a few days and be rinsed a few times....as they can have chemicals from plastic manufacture process.... new plastic used with water needs to off-gas

  • imma run t his on my 75 gal cichlid community tank looks like a good concept

  • this is the best i have seen because it is cheap to make...i would like to know what to look for in a pump that would be cheap....

  • @MrRbadali pond/fountain pumps lowes hom depot 20$

  • General rule of thumb is the output pipe should be twice the diameter of the input.

Another thing to consider is putting a venturi into your pressure output in the filter to add air bubbles for aerobic bacteria. Im going to try an aeration tower setup on my new 44gallon filters. Not sure on media though for that size yet.

  • just use a smaller pump or adjustable pump instead of getting larger bulkheads.

  • any tip on keeping leaves out of the pond? other than taking them our yourself with a net?

  • @twisto Sounds like you need a skimmer box. You can either buy them online or I'm sure someone has tried a homemade model. It's either that or netting the leaves out every few days. In the fall when you're shutting your pond down, cover it with a net. It will save you a lot of cleanup time in the spring. Best of luck.

  • How many gallons is this pond?

  • watched part 1. great design. the only thing is im in psain and i dont know what they call bulk heads here but i'll try to find it. this filter method is purely mechanical? you dont add activated carbon?

  • Nope. Cant be on the output side. Unless you put the whole filter underwater, or make it a sealed system.

  • Couldn't the pump be on the output side? I think I'll try that.

  • Nah nah why bother with output pipe. Stand filter on side of pond cut slit where output pipe should be. Disguise filter with any medium to match pond.

  • i'm gonna try to do something like this

  • Gotchya ! Super idea and does the job, cost me only €25 in Ireland and the pond is crystal! Nice job!

  • how is it now after 1 year? no new video! part 3!

    great job

  • dude, you rock!! i followed your step by step methodology to create my filter, and it works excellent! I used a Rubbermaid rectangular tub (the size was recommended for my 2000 gal pond) and powerhead does about 1200 gph. I used an 1 ¼” inlet and 2 ½” outlet hard piped to my waterfall 10” away… looks amazing! The best part is the that the water is clear already!

Thanks again to you and your very well done informative posting…

    John

  • How many days and months you have this filter because i want it to work and cheap for my koi pond in summer?

  • How do you connect the hose to the powerhead?

  • Hey so how did the filter work out? Is it keeping the pond clean?

  • kaydecat ur an idiot

  • So...any more info on your filter? You made two videos, and it seems like that was it. Great videos---but how did the season end? What is happening now? Is there a part 3 video? Thanks!

  • excelent video. one of the best filmed one too. i would probably go lower with the imput hole.

    congrats!

  • how many gallons is your pond?

  • wat is the GPH of the powerhead?

  • Its a 526 GPH.

  • i know this video is a bit old but if you are going to have such a long input hose another disadvantage is that your powerhead is rated at 500 gph but gravity and distance of the hose reduces it probably to near 300gph..

  • Thank you very much Man!!! Best Video for sure!

  • cool thank 4 posting this...i have a pond just like that one but no money for a high dollar filter system.
