  • amazing

  • As a Smith alum and vintage aficionado, it's really fantastic seeing this video clip!

  • smith college is a liberal institution under the guise of a conservative one.

  • wonderful old footage.i love this period of american history.i wish i had been alive in those days.people still had standards back then. There's always a sadness about this material because you know that most of these girls are now dead. Thanks for posting.

  • Wow...it's almost surreal. The campus looks just like I remember it and I graduated in '03. Cool.

  • amazing... the women have changed, but the campus looks the same!

  • Lovely coats and hairstyles :)

  • This is too cool.

  • i've been thinking about applying to smith for the art program. does anyone know if it's any good?

  • Smith's art program is really good, and class sizes are super small. Message me if you have any questions, I'm a current student who knows a lot of people involved in art/art history.

  • I can feel the nostalgia in this clip; I'm proud to be a (soon to be) Smithie!

  • u can have SO much fun ... with me v

  • ha! a little bit of history. just think, if that was never filmed that day would be lost. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you so much for uploading this!!

I go to Smith now, and I really appreciate being able to see a little bit of its history on camera :)

  • I love and appreciate this! It's lovely! I go to Mount Holyoke and I believe firmly in Seven Sisters solidarity ;)

  • nice vintage look. i love the old super-8 film footage.

  • Did they have Super 8 back in 1941? I think this may be 16mm. The films were thrown out in the 80s so I'll never know.

  • yay for Smith! Amazing clip. I really miss it.

  • This is a really cool video, thanks for sharing! I'm a Smithie, too. :)

  • Wow. Smithies are a lot hotter nowadays.

  • I have no idea about Smith College, but it's still so cool seeing color videos from back then.

  • AMAZING!!!!!! thank you so much.

  • Wow, who would have thought that this short clip would be so highly regarded. It's one of my most popular videos! I had to cut out some of because my mom, the subject of most of it, didn't want to be seen but there isn't much more so you're not missing much.

    Cheers,

    John L

  • This is amazing, things look exactly the same.

  • Wow, JMG looks exactly the same! But imagine what those women would think of the Smithies today--I think we might be a bit different...

  • Turns out my step-niece, not step-sister as noted below (my mother's 2nd husband's grandchild) went to Smith, graduating from the first engineering class ever! So, we are well acquainted with today's Smithies! But yes, I'd say they are different to some extent. Just as smart though.

  • thanks, it was neat to see that

  • most women (and men ) would have never had the chance to go to college at that time, to finish high school was most that a blue collar girl or boy could hope for , i would guess that most of these women were from the upper crust? after the war it was much easier to get a college education. thanks

  • My mom went for just that year and then got married and followed my father around during the war. But she still is fond of Smith. And my step sister graduated from there just recently!

  • Wow, those areas don't look any different

  • yeah, it's comstock/wilder. :)

  • It looks like the Quad.

  • I think the beginning is in front of JMG. Which house is the last part?
