The fulcrum idea is good, though not that necessary with an erconomic shovel. Throwing the snow is like the left-hook part of a right-cross left-hook combination. (If you have the shovel handle in your left hand.)
In the standard, forward-throwing example, what doesn't seem to be taken into account is the momentum already behind the load once you've lifted with your upper back - once the load is heaved up the act of pushing forward isn't much strain.
If you're that sensitive about your back, ok. If you want a bit of a thigh workout, ok again.
But otherwise you're surely spending 50-100% more time on the task no?
to be honest you can even use upper abs to boost your shoveling power.
