  • 24N was a chap mechanic, that be me!

  • @400spyder germershiem germany 76-79 same here bro but in 76 we were 24N20

  • For some reason I'm thinking we were more combined then they later became. As in, they had more of a separate nomenclator. See we were trained in both. Now I don't know if they ever changed AIT to be more specific or not.

Personally I started out driving the Chapp, then was switched over to the Vulcan. I don't know all I did, a little of everything. Drive truck, gunner, radio operator/crewman, etc. Early outs (war winding down, bull shit, 4 more years of it), the outfit disbanded.

  • I duuno, they didn't like us hitting the drones, must have been really early. The drones would pull "fire pots" behind them, the missile would still "jump" over the pots and nail the drone though, much to our glee. We still had the XM tag on our Chaparral/Vulcan outfit, so it was still new.

  • So you were a 16P10?

  • I don't remember anymore to be honest. 16R32? Seems to stick, the 16R is right, it's the 32 I'm not sure about. I started with the Chaparral in the unit, 8th of the 60th, and was moved to the Vulcan. The XM was on our military drivers licences.

I also got stuck in LPC fresh out of Boot (part of NCOCS) and got a feel for the rest of what was happening around Ft. Bliss and White Sands. Saw some strange things. Some still have no answers.

  • 16R is a vulcan gunner.

    16P was a Chaparralcrewman.

At ft. stewart I believe A-Batt was Vulcan.

  • oh and there are videos of the vulcan on youtube. Just in case.
