Thanks so much! Your vid ws brilliant; I've been teaching myself the violin for about two months and it's great to have some useful videos like this to help me learn! Keep up the good work!
i really couldnt think of the word but when i saw somebody else do it i was saying how do you shake your hand like dat. its pretty pitiful tht ive been playing for 7 yrs and i dont know how to vibrato
Like everyone else said, This vid is better than others. You actually tell use what the hand and fingers are doings (like the thumb). Other violinists just kinda show off.
I've been learning the violin for a bit over a year now and at times i've felt like quiting. I felt as though i wasn't progressing and that i wouldn't progress. But maybe about a month ago i started watching your videos and you have reignited my passion for violin. Your skill level would be my goal. Now i really enjoy playing the violin.
2 weeks after watching your video, I can now do vibrato. I had watched other videos and just couldn't understand the basic motion until your demo. I mimicked the movement of your first finger by practicing in front of a mirror while watching your demo. Could you please post more demos showing the basic motion on your other fingers too? Thanks. I want to make sure I have the correct basic movements down.
Hello. I just wanted to thank you for your demo of the vibrato. I watched countless videos and didn't understand the fundamental motions. After doing the incorrect motion for 2 weeks and not getting anywhere, I stumbled upon your video. The way you do it, it seems like you hinge or anchor your thumb and the rest of your wrist rotates around your thumb. Is this correct?
I was wondering if you could post more videos showing vibrato on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers in addition to this one? Thx.

Ah! Thank you very much! I am a wrist snapper :P Any tips for reducing violin shaking while doing vibrato? Thank you again. I've watched a lot of videos on this but this was one of the most helpful.
@SadCephalopod I'm glad you found it helpful! I believe to reduce violin shaking you'll want to be sure that you are holding the violin "high" enough for lack of better word. Imagine a horizontal plane that run under the length of your violin in playing position. Your violin should not drop below this horizontal plane or you will start to get a lot of unnecessary shaking. A great wayto reduce violin shaking is using a shoulder rest.
@JTehAnonymous Ah thank you. That makes sense, about holding it higher. I have been using a shoulder rest. I think it may be time for me to just accept the fact that I need private lessons, but I am such a poor college student! D:
hey!!! no matter how hard i try wrist vibrato still i cant do it... i think im used to arm vibrato... but i read that wrist is better than arm :O and i feel bad because i cant even do my arm vibrato perfectly.. and it doesnt sound smooth.... :(( i've been playing the violin for almost 2 years now...
@princessgiezle16 From what I understand, arm and wrist vibrato are both acceptable. =) I would say pick the one you're most comfortable with and continue to develop it, then go back and learn the other later. In my opinion, both wrist and arm vibrato can be used to achieve the nearly the same effects if you work at it hard enough. Obviously, one is an easier method to create certain effects than another, but if you really look at it, they are approximately the same thing.
@JTehAnonymous thank you!! just a couple of questions... when you started playing the violin, do you practice everyday? how long each day? how long have you been playing violin? i watched some of your videos and theyre awesome!! i hope i can play as good as you!! :D
Responder a este vídeo... thank you young man ; Im 65 yeras old l and play guiyar and bassa (profesional) I started with violin one month ago and after a lot of practice time I jave liitlle vibrato but a have a litlle pain in my wrist Im trying now with arm vibrato and feel better , how long it takes in average to have a respectable vibrato?? and thanks for your help I live in Venezuela my enclish is not so good
@master72734 I'm not too sure about the average person, but I would say it took me around a year or so of playing to start to get the hang of it. It's a slow process, and honestly, even seven years into playing the violin, I still find that my vibrato is always changing.
@JTehAnonymous ok, I see is not that easy at all....thank you, very kind of you to answer me..well, nothing left that practice and practice and practice and someday I' ll get it ,hope so, no hurry , I dont intent to be a profesional thanks again for your time..and congratulations .
