I can pretty much tell what he is saying by the knobs he's pointing at and I'm assured he's not fucking with post processing impulses etc. Guitar-to-amp demos, no fucking around. I believe the dsl/tsl jcm2000 line would've went down as legendary had they went at it from a tube amp aesthetic instead of "crunch" channel, etc., ie; modeling amp slang. that verbage just doesn't become Marshall Amplification -even though these amps KILL! Excellent review!

Really the build quality and components in the Marshall 2000 range was terrible. DSL and TSL amps were a poor effort by Marshall. The newer JVM range was an improvement.

Actually those 602's don't sound half bad, especially with a Gibson SG (what I use). The key is to change the tubes (Groove Tubes) and the speakers (vintage 30's). This dude doesn't seem to know how to get a good tone out of it, or something. I wouldn't pay too much attention to him.

New tubes and vintage 30's are kind of a costly upgrade for that type of combo amp, but it's worth it to me because it has the 2 gain channels. That's the one feature I love best about the 603

Yeah, no problem! One thing that could be giving him such a shitty tone is his guitar. I've noticed that certain guitars don't seem to go well with certain amps. Plus it seems that he's trying to get a "nu-metal" type of sound out of that amp, which I don't think it's really designed for. Well, maybe those Celestion Wolverine speakers that it comes stock with are suited for that sort of thing.

I get kind of an 80's rock tone out of mine using the lead channel with the gain at 12 o'clock. If you've heard AC/DC's Fly On The Wall album, that's what it like.

With the crunch channel I can get a Jimmy Page kind of sound. I like to use it for rhythm playing, then switch to the lead channel for playing leads, of course.

I have a Marshall 2 by 12 extension cabinet, but I will be replacing that with a Mesa 2 by 12. Those come with vintage 30's. The Marshall has crap spkrs

So stay away from those Marshall 2 by 12 extension cabinets. They're made of cheap particle board, the joints are connected poorly, and they have way too low of a bottom end. So low that it drowns out the 602's searing tube tone. Like I said already, the "custom-voiced" celestions is comes with kind of suck.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Mesa. It's made of birch and it has the vintage 30's. I was assured that I wouldn't be disappointed using it with my 602.

right now im thinking of getting a marshall dsl100 mlb and mc412 halfstack. I saw a video on it and it sounded great. Do you think that this is a good amp? If its not great then i might too consider a mesa boogie. I heard It has a great range of tones.

I have no idea. I never played through those amps before, so I couldn't tell you. What I think is funny is that everyone I talk to says to stay away from those Vintage Moderns. Several different players said that those are HIGHLY overrated. I figure that anything Slash endorses is a gymick, except for maybe his custom shop Les Paul. He's become such a sellout I don't much take his word for anything, such as the case with the Vintage Moderns.
