She has fans because of hers looks and looks alone. I guess since I don't find her that cute, I'm able to see that. If it were some ugly girl singing like that, people generally couldn't care less about how much effort she'd put into it, guaranteed.

As an idol, I wouldn't expect their voices to be amazing, but to be a member of a group whose focal point is singing it should at least be decent. This vocal performance was mundanely average, with no musical appeal whatsoever.

Their voices are all enjoyable and they are pretty much divided into three groups in that regard.

The Strong Ones: Yuu-chan, Kaorin, Nacchi, Kemeko, Gocchan, Aibon (I hate to admit that but her range and power when she wasn't trying to be the cutest thing ever was like the pull of gravity), Gaki-san, Ai-chan, Reina, LinLin.

The Ones in the Middle: Kuroe, Asukachi, Yaguchan, Kaasan, Yossie, Mittsi.

The Ones at the Bottom: Nono, Charmy, Mako-chan, KonKon, Sayumin, Eririn, Koharu, JunJun.

JunJun's voice is also versatile and has more appeal than Charmy's but not by much her range is greater though. Eri's voice has come very far but there are times when she can't hold her voice. If you called Ogawa Makoto a strong singer and Goto Maki horrible and Reina middle...you need to get your ears checked. Also why didn't u do all the members? Do you really know what you're talking about kid?

Versitality and range isn't all there is to singing. In fact, versatility has NOTHING to do with it. Whether or not you looked up all the member, if you don't know what to look for, it's useless. I have realitive pitch and a strong musical backround so don't even think about assuming things about me. Reina went through puberty and her voice suffered through it, Goto improved and Ogawa has always been on pitch with the music, Charmy has really good range as well.

@BlueDolphin2011 We are the same on the pitch and strong musical background thing so don't assume I don't know what I'm talking about either. Appeal is definitely something you need to be a strong vocalist. It doesn't matter how far your range can go or how versatile your voice can be if you're going to bore the person who watches you. In short you can appeal to the ear but not to the eye. This is why some soloist fail to be good (I.E Mano Erina, Kaorin).

Reina gets really into it when she's singing even when singing solo songs. Goto Maki I don't have a clue why you insist the girl was ever bad she is the best UFA EVER had. Goto Maki could do anything from ballad to rock n roll and kick ass. Her voice has range, power, and versatility + can appeal to both the eye and the ear.

@BlueDolphin2011 Mano Erina's voice is good...but it's weak. Risako's voice is versatile regardless of being good or bad. And considering these girls ARE idols appeal is one part of the whole. If we take that out then the only ones who can really truly class as GOOD SINGERS idol status aside are Abe Goto Fujimoto Takahashi Tanaka and LinLin. The rest have problems somewhere. I dunno what the change people talk about in Tanaka's voice is all about. It has always been strong and cute. That's it.

I actually think those girls would class as good singers in 98% of the world's eyes and ears.

@BlueDolphin2011 Ogawa...at first I actually liked her voice but time passed and she pretty much lost both her appeal and her voice. It lost it's power and her range became weaker. I think that might be why she didn't get much on singles as time passed. Konno I would prompt to Middle now but I was more going for while they were in MM than right now. Charmy too. Kamei until 2009 didn't really show her stuff so I'd still put her on bottom here. Talking out of MM they all have become strong/middle.

A better example would be the way Ayumi Hamasaki performs. She has range, strength or voice, appeal, and feeling all in one every single time. I dunno how to explain myself really. @BlueDolphin2011 Last one. This vid is of Sayumi and in all honestly this is probably the only member of MM who will still be at the bottom when she graduates from/leaves the group. This isn't due to her voice being bad rather it is due to her lack of control of it and nobody bothering to train her in order to fix that problem. I remember how they sent the girls from Taiyou to Ciscomoon to different countries or what not for vocal training. Sayumi could use that kind of help.

she just doesn't ues it often. Junjun hits ALL of her notes and has a strong vibrato at times. Aibon would lose control and go of key at times. So did Yossie.

KonKon improved greatly and now hits the notes with power she didn't have before.

And appeal?? Nothing to do with singing. Johnson had no appeal but was a good singer. It was mostly due to experience though

As far Morning Musume goes every girl can sing to some degree. Even if he has to stick them in the back they have to be good at something. I.E Harmonizing, backing vocals. That's usually where Sayumin is all the time. However I think Tsunku has her perform like this every once in a while to show her improvement. Someone already said it but she's probably a lot better than most people could ever be (especially now in 2010). Her Senkou Hanabi and her latest solo It's You are great!

I think sayu did quite well in this performance, especially when those who can sing very well like ai chan didn't do a great job. I'm not a sayumi fan but i think she was doing quite good and smooth compared to the other songs before (e.g. the otome gumi concert... she was moving and singing at the same time awkwardly...) this is so old and after looking at the comments on here I to wonder why is everyone hating on her solo of this if she was the other lead for the single. Seriously most of this song was either KonKon or Sayumin and ppl hate on Sayumin so much for doing a solo performance of it like KonKon did. Neither one of them has great voices and most people can't admit that KonKon is almost as terrible as Sayumin. Sayumin lacks vocal flow and control and KonKon cannot do that much better than she does.

This was in 2005. 2007 is ending, and her singing's improved. I.e.: Takara no Hako (in hawaii I think), and this year's special in hawaii too, "Merry Pinkurisumas".

Anyway, the guys cheering her up in the crowd, didn't seem to be too upset because of her poor performance, quite the opposite.
