awww i got a senegal the other day. I can't scratch his head yet though ;( hes about 20 yrs old. I got him from an old lady who couldn't take care of him anymore because she went to a nursing home. He wasn't very socialized. Hopefully if I work hard one of these days he'll let me scratch his head. :)
soo cute :) ahh i get my baby poicephalus senegalus mesotypus (orange bellied senegal) in 15 days!!! soooooo excited. its gonna be m first ever bird. i hopei goes well. my dad is gonna driv all the way to wales to pick it up!! (we are near london)
Don't give up. I got a 4 year old hand reared but badly abused male Senegal as a rescue bird 5 years ago. After a lot of gentle talking and persistence, he got to trust me and recently started to accept (and solicit) having his head scratched. The secret is to be calm and gentle and take everything at the bird's pace - don't rush it. It also helps that I have a very tame 14 year old female who adores being scratched and he saw this, which reassured him.
We looked after a friends Senegal parrot when they went on holiday, I came in one day and found him on his back at the bottom of his cage - properly freaked out until I saw that he was OK and was playing with his ball!!
Didn't know that Senegals love to play on their backs..
Thanks so much for posting, looking forward to more vids featuring this little guy x

It's so nice to see a Senegal being cuddled.
If they decide to become tame and are well educated they will be crazy about cuddles.
But if they decide not to become tame or they are not educated properly pray to the Lord for your fingers. *g*
I hope the little one will have company soon. :-)
