Meh, I thought it was 4 stars. I've seen worse..*coughs* Some Disney films *coughs harder* the crappy films that look briliant in the trailer like airbender *coughs* but I do say, Terminator 2 beets the shit, out of avatar hands down
I'm curious of something. In an imax theater, does the screen come all the way around you like a have sphere? When I hear "Imax theater" I always think "Omnitheater at the Science Museum in the Twin Cities."
@finrodbrs the Omnitheatre you went to is in fact a different thing. I think the sphere-shaped screen has a lot of potential, but its on its way out. Imax screens are just regular flat screens... just BIG.
It WASN'T the highes grossing film in the world, no matter what people say because the statistics show that the Highest Grossing box office film really was...get this...GONE WITH THE WIND. I shit you not. Avatar was around 4th.
The plot: *sigh* I thought this kind of thinly-veiled anti-industry and hyper-environmentalist propaganda went out of style ten years ago. And yet viewers eat it up. Whyyy?
The effects: Beautiful, groundbreaking, amazing. I can't get over them. CG film artists this decade will have some pretty big shoes to fill.
I honestly didn't think those messages were forced or that the movie was preachy about them. They certainly didn't bother me, at least how the movie handled them. They felt more like undertones rather than the themes driving the plot.
Forgot to add Ferngully in the credits. I mean, it's the exact same movie. Sacred tree, bulldozers, outsider made to look like the indigenous people and falling in love with the 'princess', the forest frolicking and swimming scenes....etc.
This is NOT the new Star Wars, it's cliched and unoriginal. Of course, humans are just SO evil and the similarity between Dune, Dances With Wolves, The Last Samurai, Fern Gully, Pocahontas, Princess Mononoke, and Atlantis: The Lost Continent is freaking insulting. Environmental and anti-military propaganda. GAAAAAHH!!! James Cameron's best work is the first two Terminator films, Aliens and The Abyss.
@desotowright The real crime here is that Cameron puts this film forward as a pro-environment, anti-corporate tract while simultaneously flogging it for every merchandising angle he possibly can. How many of those Avatar Happy Meal kits are going to end up in landfills?
@desotowright i thought the sub-commentary on environmentalism was good, and there was a creative setting...but other than that the story was of course obnoxiously unoriginal.
OMG GAIZ I CCANT BELIEVE U LIKE THIS DUB11!!!1! ITS SUX AND THIS MOVIVE WAS SO GUD AND I LOVED IT111 U NO, ITS ABOUT SAVING DA ENVRMENT AND STUFF YOU HAVE TO BE SOOOO STUPID NOT TO GIT THAT11!!!!
Ahaha, this is very funny. I really had a laugh. I have to say, though, that I really liked the movie. Even though it's a story already told so many times, I liked seeing it being told a bit different with new characters. But this, this is great. It reminds me of Mystery Science Theater 3000! Horray!
Everyone has a right to their own opinion, which includes the person who made this video. You may have not liked what this person had to say, but the person still has the freedom to express an opinion, even if it doesn't agree with yours. So, cool your jets; relax, and life will go on for you, I promise. Work on your punctuation and those run-on sentences while life goes on, too. x3
lmao!!! This was hilarious!!! I actually liked the movie, but was wondering if they African blue cats....and how did the Jake Sully guy fall in love with the chick.... What were they saying about the planet Earth, what happened to Earth?? What kind of economy were they selling this "unobtainium" in?? So many questions...
I dunno. If all I cared about was plot, I'd read a book. Besides, I don't really think James Cameron concieved this movie for the plot's sake-- I guess that's already obvious...
What I'm trying to say is that I think James Cameron never meant for us to pay attention to what we think is the plot. All it serves to do is to ease our transition into this beautiful world, where its creatures, geography and culture tell a story all their own.
Ive been waiting for the Avatar trailer dub. :) Now that Ive finally seen a review that isnt from the perspective of an ADD afflicted 12-year old I feel that I could watch the film without any self-loathing.

Imagine a world where the highest grossing film is considered the best one. Now that could really be called science fiction!
Ahah, I was hoping you'd do one for Avatar. I like the movie a lot (minus the meh--script-lame-baddies-elements) and the titles at the end are AWESOME. It's so weird, my brothers and I summed it up like that too after we saw it. XD

SuperKBros 2 years ago
@SuperKBros James Cameron directed a film in the 80's called "Aliens" which was full of space marines.
Then the Bungie company made "Halo" and borrowed the look and behavior of the space marines from "Aliens" for its asthetic.
Then James Cameron made this movie, possibly without even being familiar with Halo.

Hurvl 1 year ago
So the standard of "greatness" is how much it grosses on opening weekend? Or even how much it grosses overall?
Judging a film's "greatness" purely by how much cash it brings in is, with all due respect, a rather shallow way to rate movies.
What about the Academy Awards? Sure thats another shallow way to judge films but by that standard Avatar isn't going to win much.
And Phillock is right on something else as well. Past film grosses aren't adjusted for inflation.
LuciusTheFair 2 years ago
If we were to adjust for inflation, Gone With the Wind is still the highest grossing film ever in the US and UK, even more so than Titanic.
So yup, Avatar hasn't got anything on Clark Gable... haha.
