@dancinman17 l am sure that his legend is so great because never was filmed ,but are clips of karsavina and pavlova, make comparation with today's dancer, apart the romantic and historic point of wiew today would be very few brillant.there is some reason to think different about nijinsky?with all respect off course.the powerful maledancing of today is from dancers such as chabukiany messerer or yermolayev, surely not from nijinsky or lifar .
Is there a Must See! 1? I've got 2-5. Thanks so much ilyaballet for this and all your other postings - and I don't just mean in this series, but ALL you've ever posted. Please let me know about No. 1.
I love this video's.. thank you so much for posting! I don' t like that people start to compare Soloviev to Barishnikov and Nureyev; I think every artist is unique and because ballet is a art-form and not a sport, it is impossible to compare .. and where would it stop .. ? Maybe by comparing Makarova and Kolpakova..? Or comparing Fotneyn and Busell? There's no use ..
Technically much better than Nureyev, not sure how he would compare to Misha. If he had defected, he would've garnered the same status/acclaim as the two.
Technique apart, Nureyev had beautiful, noble facial features with high cheek bones(those Tatar genes)and animal magnetism on stage. Yureczka had a jovial Slavic face. He had an amazing technique and better feet than Misha but these two shouldn't be compared; they are not the same generation of dancers. They are a decade apart. This video is from 1958, according to the documentary. All three of them are unique and I'm sure if Soloviev was allowed to dance in the west he'd be just as famous.
natalya makarova in her byographi wrote in russia there was someone better than micha he ws yuri soloviev.his phenomenal dancing is a joy for our heart .RIP superman
was that thing at the end where he goes in a circle supposed to be in full split?

I agree. We can't compare dancers, but we can certainly rate sautees and entrechats.
